Deland bar shooting suspect arrested, no bond
Volusia County law enforcement arrested Calvin Gilbert on Sunday and will be held without bond. He faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and firearm use while intoxicated.
The shooting happened in the back parking lot, according to police. Investigators say Calvin Gilbert, the suspect they're looking for, bought the victim, who he didn't know, a beer. After the bar closed, Gilbert demanded he be reimbursed for the beer. Police say there was a heated argument and then Gilbert pulled out a gun and shot at the victim, who has not been identified.
'This could happen anywhere. It happens in downtown Orlando; it happens in New York City every day. We're just unfortunate it happened within one month of happening,' said Paul Jones.
Police say the victim was able to duck and keep from getting hit. Police say surveillance cameras show Gilbert leaving on foot. Then getting into a 1999 Nissan Quest van. Paul Jones says he knows Gilbert, and this doesn't sound like him.
'This is definitely not like him. We've met him multiple times and he's a great person. I just don't know what happened last night,' said Gilbert.
This same bar was the site of a deadly shooting back on May 3rd. That shooting happened inside. Jones says he doesn't want the recent shootings to shine a bad light on the area.
'Not this place or this town. It's the number one downtown in America. This is a great place. They've revamped this entire area,' said Jones.
Jones says he's seen police do more patrols around the area and feels safe overall. He says peoples' actions outside can't always be controlled.
'It's unfortunate this happens. Unfortunately, you can't control what happens to people after the bar closes,' said Jones.
Police say the bullet hit an outside cooler and went through the wall of the bar—again, no one was hurt.

A Labour councillor called for far-right protesters' throats to be slit during a 'rabble-rousing' speech at an anti-racism protest, a court has heard. In the wake of rioting following the Southport murders, Ricky Jones, 58, described demonstrators as 'disgusting Nazi fascists', his trial was told. The now-suspended councillor had been told by the Labour Party to stay away from the protest, but turned up anyway, jurors heard. A video showing Jones addressing the crowd in Walthamstow, east London, on August 7 last year went viral on social media after the protest. Wearing a black polo top and surrounded by cheering supporters, the councillor said: 'They are disgusting Nazi fascists. We need to cut all their throats and get rid of them all.' He also drew his finger across his throat as he spoke to the 'tinderbox' crowd. The demonstration had been organised in response to plans for a far-right march outside Waltham Forest Immigration Bureau, jurors at Snaresbrook Crown Court were told. It followed the nationwide violent disorder that occurred last summer after the Southport murders. Prosecutor Ben Holt said Jones used 'inflammatory, rabble-rousing language in the throng of a crowd that we will hear described as a tinderbox'. Opening the case on Monday, Mr Holt said: 'Last summer, three young girls were killed at a dance-themed party in Southport. 'There was some hysteria… Some of that grief manifested itself in anger, and regrettably, violence.' The incidents brought out counter-protests, one of which Jones decided to go to, the prosecutor said. 'He attended in the face of considered advice not to do so,' Mr Holt added. 'At Walthamstow that day, rumours had spread that there was going to be a protest outside an immigration centre. 'During that event, he made a speech, amplified through a public address system, to the crowd. 'He called the other side disgusting Nazi fascists. He said that their throats needed to be slit. 'He drew his finger along his throat as he said that. 'This, in a setting where, we suggest, violence could readily have been anticipated. 'We ask rhetorically, what did Mr Jones think was going to happen?' In the days before the protest, the councillor had been warned to stay away by his party. A letter sent to him said: 'With heightened tensions in many areas of the country due to the threat of further violent disorder, we wanted to remind all Labour party councillors to follow the clear advice issued by the police which is not to take part in, attend or encourage others to attend, any sort of demonstration or counter demonstration.' Jones, of Dartford, who denies one count of encouraging violent disorder, told police he was 'sorry' he made the comments 'in the heat of the moment', and had not intended for them to be 'taken literally', Mr Holt said. The councillor also told police he was upset having been sent pictures of National Front stickers that had been left on a train, which had razor blades hidden behind them. Jones, who has been a borough councillor in Dartford, Kent, since 2019, was suspended by the Labour Party the day after the alleged incident. The trial continues.

Search underway for missing 15-year-old Detroit girl, police say
The Detroit Police Department is seeking the public's help in finding a 15-year-old girl who was last seen leaving her home on Saturday. According to officials, Ja'Niah Vernon left her home without permission on the 14500 block of Westwood Street and has yet to return. Police say Vernon is 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 100 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair. She was last seen wearing yellow Crocs. Anyone with information about Vernon's whereabouts is asked to call Commander Dietrich Lever with the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-5840 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-773-2587.

Search efforts underway to find missing 22-year-old man in Glace Bay
Search efforts are underway in Glace Bay to locate a missing 22-year-old man. Cape Breton Regional Police say Colby MacIntosh was last seen Saturday evening leaving the Main Event bar in Glace Bay. On Sunday, ground search and rescue assisted with efforts to find MacIntosh in the area of Steeles Hill in Glace Bay, police said. The public is being asked to stay away while the search continues. MacIntosh is said to be five feet eight inches tall, with curly blond hair, and green and grey eyes. He was wearing a grey shirt with blue jeans and pink Converse sneakers at the time he was last seen. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police directly or to call Crime Stoppers.
