Artists invited to submit entries for Canning awards

Entries have been invited for the City of Canning's 2025 Canning Art Awards. Artists aged 12 years and over are invited to submit works in a range of traditional and contemporary categories. The awards have been running since 2020 and this year have two new categories: Painting on Canvas and Painting on Paper. Other categories include Drawing, 3D Sculpture/Textile, Mixed Media, Photography and Digital Art. The prize pool of more than $13,500 includes $1000 to each of the seven adult category winners, $500 to each of the winners of the seven Young Artist Categories (for ages 12–17), and $1000 for the City of Canning Resident Award, People's Choice Award, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Artist Award. Mayor Patrick Hall said the awards were a key initiative in supporting and celebrating local artists of all backgrounds and experience levels. 'Each year, we're inspired by the quality, creativity and bold storytelling that artists bring to the Canning Art Awards,' Mr Hall said. 'This event gives local and emerging artists, especially our young people, the opportunity to present their work in a professional gallery setting, gain public exposure, and potentially take home well-deserved recognition and prize money.' All entries will be exhibited at Riverton Library and professionally curated at the Canning Arts Award opening night on September 26. The exhibition will be open for public viewing during library opening hours, from September 27 to October 4. Adult category artworks will be available for purchase throughout the exhibition, offering guests a chance to support local artists and take home a one-of-a-kind piece. Visitors can also vote in person for the People's Choice Award, which will be announced at the end of the exhibition. Entries can be submitted from August 4 to 22.
