I bossed Celtic to one of their worst ever results and this is what Dermot Desmond told me at full time
Celtic crashed to one of the most embarrassing defeats in the club's history during Gordon Strachan's first game in charge.
But the ex-Hoops boss ranks it as one of the defining matches that changed his life.
The crestfallen Parkhead side were battered 5-0 in a 2005 Champions League second round qualifier away to Artmedia Bratislava.
It was a horror start to the helm for Strachan, who was already an unpopular choice with supporters to replace the iconic Martin O'Neill.
Celts did come close to completing a remarkable turnaround in the second leg, but fell short by a goal as the Slovakian minnows edged through 5-4 on aggregate.
That saw them tumble out of Europe before the school holidays were even over as Strachan faced immediate heat from the raging green-and-white faithful.
Yet despite a ropey start in the league, the Aberdeen legend managed to steady the ship by leading Celtic to three-in-a-row, two League Cups and a Scottish Cup.
Throw in back-to-back qualification to the Champions League last 16 and Strachan is now fondly remembered by the Celtic fanbase.
Strachan revealed he always had the backing of principal shareholder Dermot Desmond, who made a beeline for the crestfallen boss minutes after the full-time whistle in Bratislava.
Reflecting on the moment that he believes shaped his four years in Glasgow, Strachan told FourFourTwo: "Getting beaten 5-0 in Bratislava in my first game at Celtic, you think you're the worst manager in the world - everybody else did that night!
"Sometimes you think, 'How bad can things get?' On my tombstone, it will say, 'Even this is better than Bratislava.'
"But to achieve anything in life, you have to take a few hits. I remember Dermot Desmond coming down after the game to reassure me that everything would be all right.
"He said, 'You'll only see me when you're needing help.' I didn't see him too often, apart from on the golf course. My time at Celtic was terrific after that."

Former Liverpool and Arsenal star reveals he REJECTED Real Madrid after falling out with manager
Jermaine Pennant has revealed he could have joined Spanish giants Real Madrid after being frozen out by Rafa Benitez at Liverpool. The English winger, now 42, enjoyed a successful Premier League career before eventually hanging up his boots in early 2018. He captured the attention of football fans at a young age, with a 15-year-old Pennant signed for a then-record fee for a trainee when Arsenal forked out £2million to bring him in from Notts County. He went onto make 26 appearances for the Gunners before really making a name for himself at Birmingham City, joining the Blues following a successful loan in 2005. It was only a year later however when Merseyside giants Liverpool came calling, with Pennant making the move north in a deal worth up to £8million. And the fee paid by manager Rafa Benitez seemed justified, with the flying winger cementing himself in Liverpool's first eleven and playing a crucial part in their run to the 2007 Champions League final, in which he played a full 90 minutes. But after two seasons at Anfield, Pennant was frozen out and left 'training on Saturday afternoons' after a fallout with manager Rafa Benitez. He featured just three times in the early months of the season and was free to leave in January - which is when Real Madrid chiefs called his agent's phone. Shockingly, Pennant joined a short list of players to turn Los Blancos down, opting for a move to Portsmouth instead - a decision he admittedly regrets. 'This is a crazy one and many people can't believe this, but Real Madrid wanted me,' he told Adventure Gamers. 'It was my last year at Liverpool, I wasn't going to sign a new contract, and things weren't really working out between Rafa Benitez and me. 'Madrid came in needing a right winger for their squad depth, so we had that conversation and it was exciting, but then I asked myself if I wanted to go there and sit on the bench for three years or do I want to go somewhere to be a first-team starter and kick-start my career again? 'It was exciting but I wasn't keen at the time. Would I go back and change my decision? I wish I could.' Pennant's agent Sky Andrew also spoke about the decision to turn Madrid down during a recent appearance on talkSPORT. 'Pennant was just one of those people, his dream was to go to Liverpool, and when he messed that up, there was nowhere else to go,' he said. 'So I rang him and said, "Jermaine, Liverpool have agreed a fee for you to go Real Madrid." 'The narrative I got from the club is that they were just looking for someone to sit on the bench as a backup. The more I said it to Jermaine, the more he said, "No, I'm not sitting on the bench." 'He's a nightmare when he's not playing. In the end they signed someone from West Ham (Julian Flaubert), who didn't play a game in the second half of the season. 'If Jermaine had gone there and not played, it would have been a disaster.' Pennant instead joined Peter Crouch at Portsmouth that winter transfer window, making 13 appearances for Pompy in the second half of the 2008/09 season. He later made a Spanish move to Real Zaragoza, before settling at Stoke City, appearing 89 times for the club during a three years period.

Ibrahima Konate gatecrashes Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz with brutal reminder
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has been one of many Liverpool players to welcome Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, but the Frenchman had a harsh reminder for the duo Ibrahima Konate cheekily reminded Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz about Liverpool's ruthless victory over Bayer Leverkusen last season. Frimpong, 24, was the first to join the Reds this summer, arriving for £29.5million from Leverkusen. His transfer was followed by Wirtz, whose £116m move broke the Premier League transfer record. They have since been joined by Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike, the latter who cost £79m. Frimpong and Wirtz were asked about their previous experiences together during a recent shoot with the club's social media team. During filming, Konate popped in to hand over bottles of water. On his way out, the Frenchman could not resist having a cheeky jibe at the duo, reminding them of the Reds' 4-0 victory over them in the Champions League when they were at Leverkusen. On Liverpool's official YouTube channel, Konate asked Frimpong: "Did they ask you, 'How was the 4-0 at Anfield?'" Frimpong shot back: "My friend. Keep going, keep going bro. I scored eh?" Konate, taken aback, responded: "You what?" After Frimpong reiterated his claim, the centre-back recalled the scoreline, momentarily forgetting that the Dutchman did score a goal, only for it to be chalked off for offside. Though it didn't stand, it clearly gave Frimpong a sense of personal triumph. In their clash at Anfield last term, Slot's side put on a clinical display in the second half to dismantle the then German champions. On paper, their clash was a game between two of Europe's best and most in form sides, that would be played on a knife edge. An even first half was followed by a deadly second 45 minutes from the Reds. Luis Diaz netted a flawless hat-trick and Cody Gakpo also found the net, as Liverpool swiftly took control of the match from then-manager Xabi Alonso – who has since moved to Real Madrid – on his return to Anfield. Of course, Konate was only joking with the duo when he brought up the result. Wirtz, Konate and Frimpong all featured in Liverpool's recent pre-season defeat to AC Milan. Frimpong stood out with his bold attacking instincts and lightning speed down the right wing. Wirtz also played as a false nine, demonstrating his elegant movement and skill in tight spaces. Despite this, Milan triumphed over the Reds 4-2, with goals from Rafael Leao, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and a double from Noah Okafor enough to beat Slot's team, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo scored for Liverpool. Reds supporters are eagerly awaiting Sunday, August 10, when Liverpool's season kicks off with a Community Shield match against Crystal Palace. Their Premier League campaign begins with a home game against Bournemouth on Friday, August 15, followed by an away game at St James' Park against Newcastle United. The latter match could be particularly heated, as the Reds are still actively pursuing Newcastle's star player Alexander Isak. The Magpies were recently dealt a blow by the Swede, who expressed his desire to explore a move away from the club. Man Utd set new Jadon Sancho price tag as talks held over transfer reunion
Manchester United continue to lower their price for Jadon Sancho in an effort to get him a move away with a third spell at Borussia Dortmund potentially on the cards Jadon Sancho could return to Borussia Dortmund this summer for just a quarter of what they sold him for four years ago as Manchester United remain determined to get him off their books. The forward is one of a number of players currently in limbo when it comes to their future. Sancho, like several of his team-mates, has returned from a loan spell away last term but is not directly part of the plans under Ruben Amorim. Sancho was at Chelsea last term and prior to that had a short loan stint at Dortmund, the club where he first made his name. The Daily Mail now reports that a third spell at the German club could be on the cards. United signed Sancho for just over £70million but he's been unable to deliver on that fee. As a result they're willing to sell up and a move to either Juventus or Dortmund is being talked up. The Manchester outfit would accept between £15m and £17m, which represents a mammoth loss. However that figure is necessary to tempt potential buyers given that neither Juventus or Dortmund have the finances to break the bank to land Sancho. United had a deal in place with Chelsea to make Sancho's loan a permanent deal, worth up to £25m, at the end of last season, but the Londoners chose to pay a £5m penalty to rip up the agreement. The England international is also entering the final year of his contract. He currently earns £275,000-a-week, a figure he would need to take a massive cut on, and his decline since moving to Manchester has seen him fall out of the picture with the Three Lions. It was at Dortmund that he was first capped by his country. Last summer when the German club reached the Champions League final, with Sancho playing a key role, there was talk of a permanent switch but club chief Sebastian Kehl admitted that finances were an issue. 'In the end, it will take money (to sign Sancho). A lot of money. Definitely more than we have at the moment, that's clear," he said at the time. As well as Sancho United have the likes of Antony and Alejandro Garnacho at the club, but they are trying to shift them in the coming weeks. Amorim has maintained the club have their valuations and opened the door to them being reintegrated into the squad if they do remain. He said: The club have a number for these players. If they don't reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that. I understand the clubs are waiting for the last minute but they can have a surprise. I'm ready to receive the players."
