Ibrahima Konate gatecrashes Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz with brutal reminder

Daily Mirror5 days ago
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has been one of many Liverpool players to welcome Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, but the Frenchman had a harsh reminder for the duo
Ibrahima Konate cheekily reminded Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz about Liverpool's ruthless victory over Bayer Leverkusen last season. Frimpong, 24, was the first to join the Reds this summer, arriving for £29.5million from Leverkusen.

His transfer was followed by Wirtz, whose £116m move broke the Premier League transfer record. They have since been joined by Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike, the latter who cost £79m.

Frimpong and Wirtz were asked about their previous experiences together during a recent shoot with the club's social media team. During filming, Konate popped in to hand over bottles of water.

On his way out, the Frenchman could not resist having a cheeky jibe at the duo, reminding them of the Reds' 4-0 victory over them in the Champions League when they were at Leverkusen.
On Liverpool's official YouTube channel, Konate asked Frimpong: "Did they ask you, 'How was the 4-0 at Anfield?'" Frimpong shot back: "My friend. Keep going, keep going bro. I scored eh?"
Konate, taken aback, responded: "You what?" After Frimpong reiterated his claim, the centre-back recalled the scoreline, momentarily forgetting that the Dutchman did score a goal, only for it to be chalked off for offside.
Though it didn't stand, it clearly gave Frimpong a sense of personal triumph. In their clash at Anfield last term, Slot's side put on a clinical display in the second half to dismantle the then German champions.
On paper, their clash was a game between two of Europe's best and most in form sides, that would be played on a knife edge. An even first half was followed by a deadly second 45 minutes from the Reds.

Luis Diaz netted a flawless hat-trick and Cody Gakpo also found the net, as Liverpool swiftly took control of the match from then-manager Xabi Alonso – who has since moved to Real Madrid – on his return to Anfield. Of course, Konate was only joking with the duo when he brought up the result.
Wirtz, Konate and Frimpong all featured in Liverpool's recent pre-season defeat to AC Milan. Frimpong stood out with his bold attacking instincts and lightning speed down the right wing.

Wirtz also played as a false nine, demonstrating his elegant movement and skill in tight spaces. Despite this, Milan triumphed over the Reds 4-2, with goals from Rafael Leao, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and a double from Noah Okafor enough to beat Slot's team, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo scored for Liverpool.
Reds supporters are eagerly awaiting Sunday, August 10, when Liverpool's season kicks off with a Community Shield match against Crystal Palace. Their Premier League campaign begins with a home game against Bournemouth on Friday, August 15, followed by an away game at St James' Park against Newcastle United.
The latter match could be particularly heated, as the Reds are still actively pursuing Newcastle's star player Alexander Isak. The Magpies were recently dealt a blow by the Swede, who expressed his desire to explore a move away from the club.

Chelsea agree £20m transfer deal to sell forgotten striker

Burnley have agreed a transfer deal with Chelsea to sign Armando Broja, according to reports. Chelsea have set out their stall in the summer transfer market in a bid to close the gap on their Premier League rivals, with Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro all joining to help bolster Enzo Maresca's attack. The Blues are also working on a £60million transfer for RB Leipzig and Netherlands winger Xavi Simons, who is said to be eager to push through a transfer to Stamford Bridge. Joao Felix and Noni Madueke have both moved in the opposite direction, joining Al-Nassr and Arsenal respectively, and Broja is now expected to follow suit as he looks to secure regular playing time away from west London. Broja, 23, struggled to make a significant impact across an injury-hit loan spell with Everton last season, failing to find the net in any of his 11 appearances for the Merseyside outfit in all competitions. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. But Broja's disappointing campaign at Goodison Park has not put newly promoted Burnley off a potential deal for the striker and talks have been advancing at a pace in recent days. According to The Sun, the Clarets have reached an agreement worth up to £20million for the Albania international, who has been on Chelsea's books since Under-8 level. Given Broja is a product of Chelsea's academy, the proposed sale would represent 'pure profit' as the west London giants look to balance the books to comply with PSR rules. Broja would become the second homegrown Chelsea player to leave for Turf Moor this summer, with Bashir Humphreys completing a £12m switch in May following an initial loan move. More Trending The report claims Broja is 'open' to the prospect of joining Burnley, but the forward is still yet to agree personal terms with Scott Parker's side. Broja would become Burnley's 11th signing of the summer, with the club investing heavily in recruitment to give themselves the best possible chance of survival on their return to Premier League football. The forward, who has also enjoyed loan spells with Vitesse, Southampton and Fulham, has three years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge. A cameo appearance in Chelsea's FA Cup fourth-round tie with Aston Villa back in January 2024 was the last time Broja featured in a competitive match for his boyhood team. McLaren boss says Formula One is a ‘healthier' place without Christian Horner

Horner was released from his position on July 9. The last 18 months of his reign were overshadowed by an accusation from a female colleague of 'coercive behaviour'. Horner always denied the claim and was twice exonerated. The 51-year-old has been replaced by Laurent Mekies and Brown revealed he had met with the Frenchman ahead of Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix. 'I'm happy Laurent's in the role he is in,' said Brown. 'I like Laurent, that'll be healthy, and maybe we can get back to focusing on competition on the track. 'There's always going to be some political aspects to the sport, but I think it is going to be healthier with Laurent. I'm a fan of Laurent, I have known him for a long time, and it'll be good to go racing against him.' Brown and Horner did not get along and aimed a number of slights at each other over the years – both on and off the track. Brown continued: 'It went too far. There's always going to be politicking in F1; let's try and shut down their flexi-wings and that stuff, but when you start getting into frivolous allegations, that's just going too far. 'If I look up and down pit lane now, I see us fighting each other hard politically, but the line is not being crossed, and that line got crossed before. 'So I think that we'll see a little bit of a change for the better. There's a higher level of trust that now if we sit down and have a conversation on a topic where we think there could be some confidentiality, and it's just not an automatic: 'I'm going to use that as a political weapon'. 'We're going to be in a better place, a little bit more unified, and a little bit more trusting that while we're fighting on track, we can have a conversation about what's good for the sport off it. And that won't get manipulated for political reasons and taken out of context.' Horner led Red Bull to 14 world championships in two decades in charge and Brown, whose McLaren team lead both the drivers' and constructors' championships as the sport approaches its summer break, concluded: 'I presume he'll be back. He's young, he's a racer, and he's got pretty awesome credentials. 'But I'm looking forward to racing Red Bull, more like we race Ferrari and Mercedes and being more collegiate, because it's important for the benefit of the sport that we all can work together.'
