Neighbor Leaves Garage Cracked Open, Who's Peering Underneath Goes Viral
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A recent TikTok video has captivated thousands, all thanks to a small act of kindness from a dog owner. The clip shows a garage door cracked open just enough for a dog to squeeze a flattened body underneath. The adorable moment reveals the pup splayed out on the ground, peeking under the door with a fixed gaze. Since the video was posted, it has received over 467,000 likes. The video's caption says the creator's neighbors "always crack their garage open so their dog can people watch." Stock image: A person opens their garage door. Stock image: A person opens their garage dog's posture and the owner's sweet gesture have turned the pup into an celebrity. The comments section of the video filled with users expressing their delight. "If not pancake, then why pancake shaped?" one person wrote, while another user added: "I love how it's not [open] enough that he can get out." "President of the neighborhood watch committee," a third wrote. The dog's commitment to its hobby resonated with other pet owners. One user shared a similar experience. "My dogs used to do that under the fence at my old house, just peeking up at people throwing their trash," they wrote. Many viewers also expressed their desire to join the dog in its pastime. "Ooh and in the shade too! The way I'd be lying down and talking to them like they were my shrink," a commenter posted. Another added: "You'd catch me laying on the ground petting him kicking my little feet having the time of my life." Dogs Love People Watching This isn't the first time that a dog's love for people-watching has gone viral. Newsweek previously reported on a black Labrador retriever who also loved to socialize from his yard. In that instance, the owner went so far as to carve a lookout hole into her fence, demonstrating the lengths owners will go to accommodate their curious pups. While the most-recent viral video captures a heartwarming moment of a dog enjoying a low-key hobby, experts say it is important for pet owners to keep their animals active. An August 2022 study published in PLOS One highlighted the importance of a balanced routine for pet health. "Dogs who exercise less frequently or less intensely are more likely to be overweight," the study said, concluding that "a more holistic approach to changing both dietary and exercise routine needs to be made" to treat obesity in canines. The dog in the garage video serves as a sweet reminder of the love between dogs and their owners, and the small ways that humans cater to their pets' unique personalities—all while reinforcing the importance of keeping furry friends happy and healthy.
