Patrick Mahomes discusses interest in minority ownership of the Kansas City Chiefs
"Yeah, I mean, hopefully, that's a long time from now when I retire. But I mean, that would obviously be cool. I mean, Kansas City and the Chiefs have done so much for me, so to be a part of them in any way would be really cool," said Mahomes, "And so I know they do the minority stakes and stuff like that now. I don't think the Chiefs have done that yet, so maybe down the line, but it'll be about 10,15 years from now, or whatever that is. And so hopefully they'll hold the space for me, because you only get a certain amount of minority stakes that they can sell."
Mahomes has consistently expressed interest in buying sports teams in the Kansas City area. He has stakes in the MLB's Kansas City Royals and the NWSL's Kansas City Current. The two-time NFL Most Valuable Player has also been prominent in pitches for a hopeful NBA or WNBA franchise in Kansas City.
"I think sports are something in this world that are not divisive as far as everybody wants their team to win and they want to go out there and just enjoy the time together." said Mahomes, "And so I love sports so much, and so I invested in all the sports in Kansas City because Kansas City has been great to me. And so it's really cool to go watch these games and have a rooting interest, more than just being a fan, but someone that is invested in the team. And it's made watching the games even more fun."
Mahomes has many playing seasons ahead of him, so he won't be focused on ownership for the immediate future.

Jim Harbaugh says Najee Harris has "a chance" to play Week One
It's still not clear whether the eye injury suffered by Chargers running back Najee Harris in a Fourth of July fireworks accident will keep him off the field for the start of the regular season. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about Harris today and didn't give a clear answer about whether he'll be able to play in Week One. Asked if Harris might not be ready for the opener, Harbaugh answered, 'There's a chance he is,' according to Kris Rhim of ESPN. Harris posted a picture on social media that led to speculation that he can't open his injured eye, but Harbaugh said he can open it. Although Harris's agent originally called the injury 'superficial,' an injury that could keep him off the field more than two months later would seem to be more serious than that. Harbaugh said he doesn't want to say anything about the injury beyond what he has seen. 'I don't comment because I'm not a doctor. I'm not Mr Harris' agent either. I'm talking about what I know, and 'can he open his eye?' Yeah. I've looked into his eye. I can tell you stuff like that,' Harbaugh said. 'Past that I don't want to characterize something or put words on something or a diagnosis. Just not qualified to do that.' Whether Harris will qualify for the active roster when the Chargers open the season against the Chiefs on September 5 in Brazil remains to be seen.

Chiefs DB Trent McDuffie discusses his status among the league's elite cornerbacks
At Monday's training camp press conference, Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Trent McDuffie responded to the increased visibility he has garnered around the league for his exceptional play. "I think every year is a new year, and you kind of want to prove that you still have it. You know what I mean? Even in nickel, I feel like I still have (something) to prove," said McDuffie, "Even when I'm outside first, anytime you step on this field, I think the whole team feels like they still have something to prove. I think that just makes it a little bit easier when you go out there and see the guys to your left, the guy to your right, all giving 100% effort. And this year for me, it's really just about how well I can consistently be doing my job, you know, week in, week out." The former Washington Huskies star debuted on the annual NFL Top 100 countdown at No. 81 this offseason, showing increased respect from around the league. The multiple-time All-Pro's career continues to evolve to new heights yearly as the team's top cornerback. "I know things happen throughout the season, but not letting those small bumps affect me mentally," said McDuffie. "Not letting those small bumps knock me off what I was originally doing and continue to just push through, keep thriving. That's what we do here at St. Joe. You got to push through these hot days, you got to push through these long drive drills, and that's something that I really respect about (Head) Coach (Andy) Reid and how he does this, and I think it really helps us through the season." Chiefs scouting report: Auburn Tigers CB Raion Strader
The Kansas City Chiefs filled out their cornerback room this offseason by signing Kristian Fulton and drafting Nohl Williams in the third round. The additions allow Kansas City to play Trent McDuffie in the slot more frequently, which maximizes his playmaking ability. However, the Chiefs need to plan to replace departing free agent cornerbacks through the 2026 NFL draft. Auburn Tigers cornerback Raion Strader projects as one of the top Day 3 defensive backs in the 2026 class, but there's plenty of room for him to move up and down draft boards. Strader stared at Miami (OH) last season, where he intercepted two passes and broke up 18 total. Much of his draft stock rides on his performance in his first year at the SEC level. Strader is a lean cornerback unofficially listed at 6'0", 185 lbs. He's a little high-hipped but appears to meet the league's thresholds for arm length. Strader needs to develop better placement with his jams, but he delivers some firm one-armed stabs that re-route receivers at the line of scrimmage. He also drives receivers who release outside into the sideline. Strader thrives in off-man coverage. Playing off the ball protects him from some of the minor hip stiffness that shows up when he's in true press. This alignment also makes the most of Strader's anticipation and closing burst. He drives to undercut short routes or meet wide receivers at the catch point on slants. Strader reads the quarterback's eyes to get an early jump on plays, but this sometimes leads to him being pulled out of position by eye manipulation. Strader gets in phase quickly at the line in press-man or at the top of the stem in off-man. He rarely loses over the top and flashes the recovery speed to get back in plays when he allows initial vertical separation. His hand-eye coordination and ball tracking help him consistently make plays on the ball, even when he's facing much larger pass catchers. Strader's anticipation and vision also make him a weapon in zone coverage. His awareness and recognition skills when facing high-low concepts or plays flooding his zone stand out. He quickly processes the play and triggers to take away the quarterback's preferred target. Strader suffers from some physical limitations. His hip stiffness causes him to allow separation on comebacks and curls, and he lacks the play strength to contend with stalk blocks consistently. Despite these concerns, Strader is a quality prospect who could develop into a contributor midway through his rookie contract.
