Iowa Baseball's Cade Obermueller Named To Big Ten All-Tournament Team
While Iowa baseball (33-22-1, 21-9 Big Ten) ended the once-promising season on a sour note with a 9-3 loss against UCLA (42-16, 22-8) in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal on Saturday from Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb., the Hawkeyes did receive some excellent individual news on Sunday evening as junior starting pitcher Cade Obermueller was named to the 2025 Big Ten All-Tournament Team.
Obermueller earned the honor by showcasing his supreme skillset during the Hawkeyes' 4-3 pool-play win over Rutgers on May 21, which would be his only start in the conference tournament. During the performance, the Iowa City, Iowa, native threw seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and one base-on-balls with 10 strikeouts.
For the 2024 19th round selection by the Texas Rangers, it is his first Big Ten All-Tournament Team honor and Iowa's first player to earn this distinction since the Hawkeyes had pitcher Ty Langenberg, shortstop Michael Seegers, and outfielders Kyle Huckstorf and Sam Peterson do so in 2023.
Obermueller would end his tremendous junior campaign with a 5-3 record and a 3.02 ERA, along with 117 (12.64 strikeouts per nine innings) strikeouts in 15 appearances.
During those 15 starts, he surrendered 62 hits (6.7 hits per nine innings), 36 runs (28 earned), five home runs, 32 base-on-balls, and one wild pitch.
While nothing has been revealed just yet regarding Obermueller's intentions to return to Iowa for his senior season in 2026 or join the Rangers' organization, the Hawkeyes will certainly be prepared for either scenario as they piece together what went wrong over their final three weeks of the 2025 season.

Trio of Florida Gators named to 2025 Comeback Player of the Year Award watch list

The 2025 Comeback Player of the Year Award preseason watch list was released ahead of the start of the upcoming college football campaign and included a trio of Florida Gators. Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Eugene Wilson III, redshirt junior defensive lineman Jamari Lyons and redshirt sophomore defensive back Aaron Gates were among those named. All three have dealt with significant injury adversity and are looking to prove a point on the gridiron this fall. Wilson suffered a season-ending hip injury in his second year following a phenomenal freshman campaign that showcased his electric qualities on offense. Last year, he played in the team's first four games hauling in 19 receptions for 266 yards and a touchdown — that score coming on an 85-yard jet toss from DJ Lagway against Samford — before being sidelined. Lyons suffered a season-ending injury prior to the opening kickoff of 2024 after recording 20 tackles (10 solo) and 2.5 tackles for loss in 2023, which had set him up for high expectations. His broken ankle required two surgeries and multiple rehab stints, but he appears prepared for his return in 2025. Gates suffered a torn ACL in the Ole Miss late last November, taking him out of action for the team's final two games — against the Florida State Seminoles to close out the regular season and Tulane Green Wave at the Gasparilla Bowl. Still, he was an important contributor at the STAR position, finishing fifth on the team in tackles-for-loss with a 4.0 and logged a total of 27 tackles (14 solo), along with an interception, three pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and a quarterback hurry. About the Comeback Player of the Year Award Since 2018, the Comeback Player of the Year Award watch list has been comprised of 75 student-athletes who overcame an injury, illness or other circumstance in the previous year. Each player returned to full health for the 2025 season and showcased their skills, helping their teams compete to their highest potential. The Comeback Player of the Year Award honors three of the athletes who were named to the watch list as winners of the award. The three winners are chosen by a panel of Associated Press college football writers and sports information directors. Iowa women's basketball give fans closer look at 5-star freshman guard Addie Deal

The Iowa women's basketball program has launched itself into the elite women's college basketball programs over the past years. Beginning with getting Caitlin Clark to commit, the Hawkeyes have had a lot of success on the recruiting trail and have seen that success lead to wins on the court. And because they've won so much, they've been able to continue bringing in big-name recruits. That's remained true with their 2025 signing class. Addie Deal was a big recruiting victory for the Hawkeyes' 2025 class. A 6-foot combo guard out of Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif., Deal was one of the most highly sought-after prospects in the entire country. Deal is the ninth-best prospect in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports, and had offers from Iowa, Baylor, LSU, and Tennessee, among other schools. The Cali product announced her commitment to Iowa back in March of 2024, which was a big win for the program. Deal has been on campus for the past few months for team workouts and practices, and has reportedly been very impressive. Deal is expected to play big minutes for Iowa in the 2025-26 season, which will help elevate the team's floor and ceiling this season. And with freshman move-in for the entire college happening this week, Iowa women's basketball released a video on X that allowed fans to get to know Deal a little better before the season tips off. It's always great to get the know the players and their stories before they take the court. It's very clear that Deal is not only an extremely talented basketball player, but a great culture fit for this Hawkeye program under second-year head coach Jan Jensen. That Iowa culture blossomed under Lisa Bluder and has continued to flourish under Jensen, which is why Deal's fit both on the court and off it is perfect. Iowa fans can't wait to see her and the rest of the team take the court in just a few months to kick off another exciting season of hoops inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Why College Football Playoff won't expand past 16 teams

College Football Enquirer co-hosts Ross Dellenger, Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey react to a 24 or 28-team CFP proposal brought forth by the Big Ten conference. Hear the full conversation on the 'College Football Enquirer' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript Tony Petitti had mentioned a 24 or a 28-team college football playoff instead of the current 12-team or the 16-team format that has been proposed. The 28-team, I believe, if I have this correct, would have seven automatic bids for the Big Ten in the SEC, and five automatic bids for the ACC and Big 12. That would be a thing. There's been a lot of things thrown against the wall, um, a lot of things that haven't been reported, um, or talked about. Because they're just back-of-the-napkin sort of things. I'll give an example of some other back-of-the- napkin things. Back in June, the SEC athletic directors at a meeting in a 32-team playoff were seriously discussed in the meeting room. So this is one among many theories. But this one in particular got leaked and platformed for an entire week. To what end, and to what successful goal? It wasn't like, oh my God, Petitti's out of control, and he's somehow got the nuclear codes. Just because this theory was floated didn't mean it was going to actually take place. Place. It's one of many theories. It requires the SEC's assistance essentially to become reality, big time. So the NCAA hadn't even seen it. They hadn't even seen it, right? I shouldn't have to say this, but I'm gonna say it. This 24 and 28-team playoff is not happening next year. Like, like this is not happening. From everything I've every intel I've gotten, and maybe I'll eat those words one day, but I don't think so. Like, this is not happening. So this is probably a little further in the distance, whether it's two years or four years or six years or never. So the question is, well, like, what happens now? And I think it starts this week with the SEC athletic director meeting. What did Greg Sankey and the SEC athletic directors come out of this meeting on Wednesday or Thursday? What did they come out saying about it? About it? What was the discussion in the room? Are they for it in any way, or are they at least examining it, or are they for, which is more what I hear about, trying to get to 16 first before we go to 24 or 28, and that seems to be more of the journey there, the path.
