Zuma: Some MK party members are lucky I have not fired them

Zuma has removed more than 10 national MK leaders since the party's inception on 16 December 2023.
'They say I am firing people all the time. We didn't come here to play. If you want to play, we are not playing; that is why we are not going to go to a conference that has white money,' he told a media briefing after the party announced new leaders.
'We are only going to meet as a party to discuss how we are taking the party forward. If you can't listen, we'll remove you. You are lucky because [the national leadership] warned me. [Otherwise] I would have fired a lot of people by now. The leaders have said I should wait a bit, and they will fix it.'
On Friday the party announced Bongani Mncwango as its new secretary general, replacing
Nomsa Dlamini becomes the new deputy secretary general, replacing Nombuso Mkhize, while Alec Mguni was named the new national organiser, replacing Joe Ndhela who will now be the policy coordinator.

Shivambu has since been involved in what he calls a national consultative process to launch his political party, called Mayibuye iAfrica.
On Friday, Mayibuye iAfrika announced Mkhize as its new head of presidency. Asked whether the MK party was aware that Mkhize had joined Shivambu, Nhleko said she was free to join whoever she wanted.
In a briefing two months ago, after his axing, Shivambu told journalists that R7 million had been stolen from the MK party, but did not say by whom. At Friday's briefing, MK treasurer general Mpiyakhe Limba countered that Shivambu should have admitted that he had left the party with a R28 million debt.
Limba added that the party had appointed a consulting company of qualified chartered accountants and auditors for an independent overview of its finances.
'The purpose of auditing is for continuous improvement so that we have a proper system in place,' Limba said.
'We do have findings which are more focused on our bookkeeping, rather than to say there's any form of corruption.'

JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leader, Jacob Zuma, said he changed his stance on the Morocco and Western Sahara situation after being presented with new information. The former State president recently visited Morocco, where he supported the country's bid to have Western Sahara absolved as a province under it. At a media briefing in Sandton on Friday, the party reaffirmed its position. The South African government's long-standing foreign policy position is for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara and for Morocco to stop its occupation of the desert region. This is a policy position Zuma supported in both his two terms as a State and African National Congress (ANC) president. However, his spokesperson, Magasela Mzobe, said that position has proven to be ineffective. 'Any functioning mind changes his position when presented with new facts, scientific facts and new realities.' Mzobe has denied allegations that the MK Party is receiving funding from the Moroccan government.

Image: Timothy Bernard/Independent Newspapers Floyd Shivambu said he fully accepts uMkhonto weSizwe Party's (MK Party) move to terminate his membership of the organisation, adding that he holds no grudges against any leader or member of the MK Party. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Shivambu said his acceptance of the expulsion is "unequivocal and final". "I will not appeal the decision, as I respect the processes and structures of the organisation that I once served as National Organiser and Secretary General. Over the past 10 months in leadership within the MK Party, I have had the privilege of working alongside dedicated comrades and leading committed members in our shared pursuit of economic emancipation and social justice for the people of South Africa," he stated. He thanked members and leaders and wished all the best for the organisation. He added that the roles he was entrusted with have strengthened his leadership focus and determination. "They have reinforced my commitment to principled politics, ethical governance, and the relentless fight against inequality, corruption, and underdevelopment. These experiences have not diminished my resolve but have honed it, preparing me for future endeavours in service to our nation. MK Party Chairperson Nathi Nhleko addressed the matter during a press briefing held on Friday in Sandton, stating, 'The leadership of the MK Party has noted several statements and utterances by the former secretary-general, who was recently removed from his position. As a result, a decision was taken to summarily terminate his membership, and a formal letter of expulsion was sent to him on July 15, 2025.' MK Party gives Shivambu the boot
JOHANNESBURG - The MK Party has terminated Floyd Shivambu's membership. The party confirmed on Friday that they had sent a letter of dismissal to its former secretary general. In June, Shivambu was recalled from his position as the secretary-general of the party. His future within the party has been uncertain following his removal. He was removed following an Easter trip to Malawi, where he attended a church service led by fugitive preacher Shepherd Bushiri. Shivambu joined the MK Party in August last year, making a move from the EFF, where he was the party's deputy president.
