India fires missiles at Pakistan amid escalating WW3 fears

Multiple loud explosions were heard around the city of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani Kashmir, and large blasts were also reported in two other locations in the region.
There are escalating fears of a World War III clash after India launched several missiles at Pakistan and the disputed Kashmir region.
Multiple loud explosions were heard around the city of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani Kashmir, and large blasts were also reported in two other locations in the region.

Muzaffarabad's went into a blackout with power being cut following the explosions. As reported by the Mirror, Pakistan's military told local media that India had attacked the country with missiles and that they would respond in turn.

An Indian government spokesperson said: "A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'OPERATION SINDOOR', hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed. Altogether, nine sites have been targeted."
Indian officials claimed the strikes were "focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature." They claimed no military facilities had been targeted and that the attacks were in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack which resulted in the deaths of 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen.
Local outlets in Pakistan have claimed, however, that at least three people and 12 others were injured in the missiles strikes.
Footage taken at the site of the strikes showed huge explosions in Bahawalpur. A spokesperson for Pakistan's military said the country "will respond to this attack at a time and place of its choosing." The spokesperson continued: "All of our air force jets are airborne. This is a shameful and cowardly attack that was carried our from within India's airspace."
Aviation analyst Alex Macheras said in a post shared to X/Twitter that flights were diverting out of Pakistani airspace. He added: "Airspace corridor between Oman & India (with aircraft flying between east and west) now very busy as airlines re-route away from Pakistan."

The missile attack comes after a attack in Kashmir, which happened during a four-day visit of the country by US vice-president JD Vance last month. The attack happened in a well known tourist town when gunmen approached visitors and opened fire.
Omar Abdullah, the region' s top elected official, took to social media following the attack, adding: "This attack is much larger than anything we've seen directed at civilians in recent years."
India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, branded the attack a "heinous act." He added: "Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice...they will not be spared. Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and will only grow stronger."

'I want Trump for King' - fans at weird tank parade want 2028 election cancelled

As thousands marched against Donald Trump's authoritarian streak across America under the banner "No Kings", Trump fans suggested their guy could be the last US President ever Donald Trump should be made king, the 2028 election will be cancelled and Joe Biden was executed and replaced with an actor in a mask. That's according to Trump fans who travelled across America to attend the President's birthday tank parade. ‌ Dozens of tanks and thousands of soldiers took to the streets of Washington DC in a demonstration of American military the like of which has might not seen for decades. ‌ On paper the event was to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the US Army. But most people the Mirror spoke to at the event said Trump's 79th birthday was the main draw. Trump's speech was brief, scripted and largely apolitical. But as always with Trump, there were dogwhistles. He said of the US Army: "They fight, fight, fight..." - the same intonation he shouted to the crowd after the attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania. And when he came onstage for the speech, the band struck up the patriotic song 'My Country 'tis of Thee' - which shares a tune with God Save the King. ‌ Meanwhile, across the country, thousands of protests sprung up against Trump's authoritarian tendencies - under the banner "No Kings". Gregory, who came from New Jersey to watch the parade in a bright white shirt, suit and tie, said he was there to celebrate the birthday of "America's dad - Donald J Trump." ‌ And some of those in the crowd wanted to see Trump stay in office longer than the constitution allows. Much longer, in fact. Asked if he wanted to see Trump's name on the ballot in 2028, Edward X Young from New Jersey said: "I hope so." But Rose, his friend from Pennsylvania, went further. ‌ "I think Donald Trump is gojng to be the last President," adding she doesn't think the 2028 election will take place. "I think the Democrats have destroyed our democratic process with elections, Edward said. "They've corrupted jt so bad. Let's face it, this is the greatest President in the history of our country....I want Trump for king." Michael Neill, who travelled from New Hampshire for Trump's birthday, believes Joe Biden was "executed for treason" while in office, and the crime was covered up by replacing him with an actor. ‌ "The movie Mission Impossible, the masks? Thats a real thing, folks," he said. "Theres a lot of masks going on and we're about to find out." Get Donald Trump updates straight to your WhatsApp! Later, Rose asked if we believed Princess Diana was still really dead. She does not. ‌ Joseph, from Texas, who wore a MAGA hat and a "you missed" tee, with an image of Trump giving the finger, said he didn't think Trump would serve a third term. But asked if he would vote for him again if a way could be found to change the constitution and allow him to run again, he said: "I would consider it." "That's not a decision I can make," Gregory said when asked the same question. "But let me tell you this. I can't think of a single President who has done more for the everyday hero, the formal hero and the country than Donald Trump. "So just being honest with you...I recognise that the constitution prevents that, but I understand there are amendments, so I think that conversation has to be spread to a wider audience than just me. "What I can tell you is I've never been happier with a President than Donald Trump."

Trump and Melania arrive at military parade

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump arrived at Saturday's 250th anniversary for the U.S. Army, which also coincides with the president's 78th birthday. Melania sported a cream pinstripe suit for the occasion. The president and first lady arrived as the first drops of rain started falling, after Washington, D.C.'s possible bad weather held off all day, though with thunderstorms still predicted for later Saturday night. Vice President J.D. Vance and Usha Vance arrived with their kids, alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth , as other dignitaries waited onstage. After the Star-Spangled banner, when there was a break in the programming, members of the crowd loudly broke out into 'Happy Birthday' for Trump. Trump has denied that the military parade is in his honor - though he's wanted to hold a Bastille Day-like parade since visiting France in the opening months of his first term in 2017. The parade kicked off in earnest shortly afterward. Trump will speak later Saturday evening. The parade was set up to showcase the history of the Army, with the earliest period uniforms going first. That means the 1st Cavalry Division - including its mascot Doc Holliday, a two year old blue heeler - was near the beginning of the pack.
