HC: Specify objectionable scenes in film
Chennai: Madras high court on Wednesday questioned how the
Central Board of Film Certification
(CBFC) could deny a censor certificate for the Tamil movie 'Manushi', produced by Vetrimaaran, without specifying the objectionable scenes that could be edited.
Justice N Anand Venkatesh directed the CBFC to specify the objectionable scenes, visuals, and dialogues by June 16 or to watch the movie with the producer and point out the objectionable portions to him.
The film, starring Andrea, is directed by Gopi Nainar. It is set to revolve around a woman who is arrested on false charges and her plight as an undertrial prisoner.
Vetrimaaran moved the court, alleging that the censor board was refusing to certify his film and that he was not allowed to voice his opinion before the CBFC made its decision.
In March, a representation was made to the board to form a new committee comprising human rights activists to re-examine the film, which was not considered by the board, he said.
The CBFC denied certification to the movie on the grounds that it went against the integrity of the state, contained scenes that were contemptuous, defamed govt policies, portrayed stereotypes leading to a north/south divide, and had many scenes that were against the interests of the country.
Music director Ilaiyaraaja composed the music for the film, and veteran actor Nassar played supporting roles in the movie.

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer romantic film 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' is surely one of the best rom-coms in Bollywood. Want to know a truvia about tis superhit film? Read more. Model-actor Muzammil Ibrahim has revealed in a recent interview that director Ayan Mukerji originally envisioned him in the 2013 hit film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. According to Muzammil, Ayan personally told him that he was writing the story with him in mind, particularly for the role that later went to Aditya Roy Kapur. A Close Bond and a Missed Role In a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Muzammil recounted how director Kiran Rao introduced him to Ayan after being impressed by his performance in Dhokha (2007). 'Ayan liked me a lot. He told me he was writing Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani keeping me in mind,' Muzammil claimed. He clarified that his past relationship with Deepika Padukone, who starred in the film opposite Ranbir Kapoor, had nothing to do with the casting decision. In fact, he says he endorsed Deepika's involvement. 'Ayan would often discuss casting options with me, like whether to go with Deepika or Katrina. I told him Deepika was the right choice.' Casting Agents Changed the Course According to Muzammil, the project's direction shifted after casting agents entered the picture. He believes they disrupted the communication between him and Ayan, leading to the missed opportunity. 'Ayan told me he'd give me the script. But once the casting agents came in, they really messed things up. They had their own agendas,' Muzammil alleged. He also confessed to hesitating at the time, unsure whether to follow up with Ayan. 'I thought maybe my role was too small, or that Ranbir and Ayan's friendship might have influenced things,' he added. KSP moves Karnataka HC seeking intervention in plea filed against relief of 'Thug Life'
The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has resolved to ban the release and distribution of Thug Life in Karnataka as actor Kamal Haasan refused to tender an apology over his controversial statement that Kannada was born out of Tamil. Questioning this decision, Raajkamal Films International, for which Kamal Haasan is one of the directors, moved the HC. In its impleading application filed to this petition, KSP contended that the statement in question amounts to intentional or reckless speech that denigrates the dignity of the Kannada language and added that so far, the actor has not made any bonafide effort to tender an apology over his remarks. The KSP has also opposed the prayer made by the petitioner for police protection to release a movie in Karnataka, saying that police resources are not meant to provide protection to a commercial interest. The KSP is approaching the court in the public interest to seek permission to intervene in the petition and to place on record relevant constitutional, linguistic and cultural issues arising from recent events that have caused public unrest and hurt to the sentiments of the Kannada-speaking community.

NEET PG 2025 To Be Held On August 3; Supreme Court Approves Date Extension Request
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday allowed the National Board of Examinations (NBE)'s petition seeking permission to conduct the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for postgraduate courses (NEET-PG) 2025 on August 3. A bench comprising Justice PK Mishra and Justice AG Masih, while delivering the order, said, "We are satisfied that the prayer for extension of time to reschedule the exam to August 3, 2025, is bona fide." "Accordingly, the time allowed by our order dated May 30 is extended, and NBE is permitted to hold the exam on August 3, 2025. No further extension shall be granted," the bench added. Initially, while hearing NBE's petition, the bench expressed concern over the delay and asked, "Why do you need two months?" The NBE informed the court that there are approximately 2.5 lakh candidates and around 450 centres. Since the exam is to be held in a single shift, at least 500 centres are required. Identifying centres, arranging security measures, and allowing students to select test centres will take time. Justice PK Mishra questioned NBE, "You want time till August 3? Why so much time?" Justice AG Masih added, "You haven't started the process even though the order was passed on May 30. What have you done since then? This is causing unnecessary delay. Why do you need two months?" Justice Masih further expressed concern about the time being sought. The NBE responded that TCS, their technical partner, could explain the situation. Justice Masih remarked, "Unfortunately for you, we know how TCS works. Students are studying, and admissions will be delayed." However, both the Centre and NBE maintained that more time was necessary to conduct the examination in a single shift. Ultimately, the Supreme Court allowed their request. On May 30, the Supreme Court had ordered NBE to conduct the examination in one shift instead of two. Subsequently, NBE filed an application citing practical and technical difficulties in conducting the NEET PG examination in a single shift on June 15. NBE informed the top court that TCS, the technical partner for conducting the examination, stated August 3 as the earliest possible date to hold NEET PG in a single shift.
