Petronas celebrates Kaamatan with heartfelt webfilm 'Tinorindak Olisi' (Crown of Love)

By: Sherell Jeffrey Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: In conjunction with this year's Kaamatan festival, Petronas has released Tinorindak Olisi (Crown of Love), a touching webfilm about finding triumph through love, cultural pride, and community support, rather than just titles. Set in Sabah and featuring the Dusun language, the film follows Elyna Jamis, a young Unduk Ngadau contestant, on a journey of self-discovery and resilience. 'In line with the theme 'Kaamatan for All', the film reminds us that true strength lies in unity and support,' said Petronas Senior GM of Strategic Communications, Siti Azlina A Latif. The film premiered under Yayasan Petronas' Uplifting Lives Festive programme, which reached 500 recipients in Sabah with essential aid. Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and Siti Azlina personally handed over festive packs to selected families in Manggatal. 'Through this initiative, we honour traditions and strengthen community bonds while supporting those in need,' Siti Azlina added.

The ancient contraceptive is probably made from a sheep's appendix and may be a souvenir from a brothel -- of which only two known copies exist, the museum said in a statement. "It shows that printmaking had many applications and offers insight into sexuality and prostitution in the 19th century," according to the museum. The museum said it would display the sheath as part of an exhibit on 19th century prostitution and sexuality. The print on the condom shows a nun lifting up her skirt and pointing her finger at three clergymen, who also have their genitals on full display. "It embodies both the lighter and darker sides of sexual health," said the museum. The Rijksmuseum noted the condom came from an era where sex was "fraught with fears of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases -- especially syphilis." The print room at the museum holds some 750,000 prints and drawings. Malaysia's K-pop princess Lingling saddles up for a fierce debut

Malaysia's first female K-pop idol Alicia Wong Lingling has finally made her industry debut recently, with the release of her group KIIRAS' first single. On May 29, its agency Leanbranding officially released the music video for Kill Ma Bo$$, which is currently racking up 262,151 views and over 28,000 likes on YouTube. It has also received positive reviews for its fresh Americana and Country R&B concept, riding at the back of the popular musical trend. With an overdriven guitar line at the background, the song is a fierce, playful anthem about taking control, breaking free from authority, and owning one's power with confidence, charm, and a rebellious killer attitude. Taking centre stage was none other than group leader Lingling, donning a denim vest, cowboy hat and riding a horse. She radiates youthful charm and lively energy, while alongside her, KIIRAS members captivate viewers with dynamic choreography and colourful styling. A promotional video was uploaded weeks prior, which featured singer-actor Eum Moon-suk and Seo In-guk, whom K-drama fans might recognise from Death's Game (2023) or the South Korean reality-documentary show Law of the Jungle. The official teaser for the music video was released shortly after, further building anticipation ahead of the full release. The music video was supposed to be a pre-release, but it changed to a debut, and it continues to gain views and spark conversations on social media, as fans eagerly await what's next for this newly formed six-member girl group. Austrian daily under fire after Clint Eastwood slams ‘phony' interview

The row was sparked by a purported interview with the Oscar-winning actor and director carried by the German-language Kurier newspaper Friday. In the interview, which was picked up widely by American media over the weekend, Eastwood criticises a lack of fresh ideas in the current film industry as 'we live in an era of remakes and franchises'. 'I long for the good old days when screenwriters wrote films like 'Casablanca' in small bungalows on the studio lot. When everyone had a new idea,' he was quoted as saying. 'My philosophy is, do something new or stay at home,' it adds. In a statement to Deadline magazine published Monday, Eastwood said 'I thought I would set the record straight'. 'I can confirm I've turned 95. I can also confirm that I never gave an interview to an Austrian publication called Kurier, or any other writer in recent weeks, and that the interview is entirely phony,' he added. On Tuesday evening, the editorial team of the Vienna-based Kurier said its freelancer Elisabeth Sereda had compiled the interview by citing from 'a total of 18' round table conversations with Eastwood. But since the article was published as an interview and not as a profile, the daily said it would cut ties with the author. 'Even though no quotes have been fabricated, the interviews are documented and the allegations of falsification can be refuted, we will not be working with the author in the future because transparency and our strict editorial standards are paramount to us,' Kurier said in a statement published on its website.
