Party's over: 43 scantily-clad women among 53 foreigners nabbed in Mount Austin club [WATCH]
JOHOR BARU: Fifty-three foreigners, including women in brassieres and miniskirts, were detained during an immigration raid at a Mount Austin entertainment outlet on April 22.
The Johor Immigration Department's surprise operation, Ops Gegar, revealed a network of undocumented workers, with foreign women hired to entertain club patrons. A 35-year-old Malaysian, believed to be the club's caretaker, was also detained.
The 43 foreign women, mostly scantily dressed, attempted to flee when officers entered the club at 11pm. Their attempts were unsuccessful, and they were quickly apprehended. State Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said 109 patrons and workers were screened.
Among those detained were 43 foreign women and 10 men, suspected of violating the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963. The detainees were from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, India, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, aged 20 to 40. A 35-year-old Malaysian was arrested under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act for harbouring undocumented migrants. Six others were issued notices to assist with investigations.
"The operation revealed widespread abuse of stay permits, with many believed to be working illegally and possibly involved in immoral activities," Darus said in a statement. "We will not compromise with employers or premises hiring undocumented foreigners without valid permits," he added.
All detainees have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further action.

Civil servant arrested for allegedly scratching neighbours' cars
AMPANG: A civil servant at a public university was arrested for allegedly scratching two neighbours' cars using a key in the parking area of their apartment in Taman Pandan Mewah here. Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the man, 41, is believed to have committed the offences on May 19 and 22, targeting two different cars parked at a particular spot. "The victims, both Malaysian women, had parked their vehicles in the same spot during the separate incidents," he said in a statement today. "On May 19, the victim found scratches on the front and rear right doors of her Honda, but could not identify the culprit. "In the second incident on May 22 about 1am, another victim's cousin parked a Toyota in the same spot and discovered scratches on the rear door about 6.40am." The victims later lodged complaints with the apartment's management, leading to a review of closed-circuit television footage that captured the man walking near the cars. "Following this, police detained the suspect at 5.35pm on Wednesday in the apartment parking area. A bunch of keys believed to have been used to scratch the cars were also seized." The suspect, a university clerk living in the same apartment, is not personally known to the victims. Azam said the motive remains under investigation. The man has no prior criminal record. The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief.

IGP confirms no travel ban on Fahmi Reza
Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin KUALA LUMPUR (June 8): No official travel restrictions have been imposed on activist and graphic artist Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said. He said Fahmi Reza's name was included in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) movement monitoring list for internal record and reference purposes due to ongoing investigations involving him. 'However, it must be emphasised that this list does not imply any restrictions but is part of the standard monitoring procedures implemented by the authorities,' he said in a statement today. Razarudin said the confusion occurred during the exit clearance process yesterday, resulting in the erroneous issuance of a movement restriction order, adding that the matter is being reviewed with appropriate steps to be taken to refine existing procedures. 'PDRM remains committed to protecting and respecting the freedom of movement of every Malaysian, and the individual concerned is free to travel in and out of the country as usual, subject to any regulations set by the Immigration Department and other relevant laws,' he said. Acoording to media reports yesterday, Fahmi Reza had claimed he was barred from travelling overseas after being blacklisted from entering Sabah recently. In a Facebook post, Fahmi Reza said he only learned of the matter after being informed by an immigration officer while at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to depart for Singapore.
