Wisconsin football top class of 2026 target to announce commitment decision on Thursday
Wisconsin football top class of 2026 target Tyler Merrill will announce his commitment decision later today, Thursday, Jan. 30.
The Badgers recently made Merrill's list of finalists, along with Penn State, Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame. He will reportedly announce his final decision at 2:20 p.m. ET, 1:20 p.m. CT on the On3 Recruits YouTube channel.

247Sports lists the top-ranked interior offensive lineman as a four-star recruit. He currently sits as the 247Sports Composite's No. 61 overall player in the class of 2026, No. 5 interior offensive lineman and No. 2 recruit from his home state of Pennsylvania. On3 has a similar outlook -- it has Merrill listed as the No. 82 overall player in the class.
247Sports has yet to release any predictions for Merrill's landing spot. On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine, however, lists Notre Dame as the leader at 87.8%. The in-state Nittany Lions are next at 5%, with everyone else at or below 1%. Notably, longtime Wisconsin assistant Joe Rudolph currently coaches Notre Dame's offensive line.
Wisconsin will look to pull off a similar recruiting upset to when it successfully landed top class of 2025 lineman Hardy Watts over Michigan and Clemson.
The Badgers currently have just one player committed in the class of 2026: three-star interior offensive lineman Benjamin Novak. The program is looking to continue a recent string of recruiting success under third-year head coach Luke Fickell -- it finished the 2024 and 2025 cycles at No. 23 and No. 25, respectively.
Stay tuned later this afternoon as Merrill announces his collegiate destination.

Key contract detail suggests Adam Nightingale will be with MSU hockey for long haul
Key contract detail suggests Adam Nightingale will be with MSU hockey for long haul Michigan State hockey head coach Adam Nightingale officially signed a new deal with the program on Friday, and there's a new detail in the contract that should help keep in East Lansing, Mich. for the long haul. Nightingale has experienced a ton of success in a short amount of time at Michigan State, winning the Big Ten regular season and conference tournament titles in back-to-back seasons, which resulted in No. 1 seeds in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments as well. That kind of success has resulted in some (including myself) worrying he may be a target for a NHL coaching position in the near future. Good news for Michigan State, though, is that his new contract extension (which is through 2030) has a greatly increased buyout should someone want to poach him away. Connor Earegood of The Detroit News posted on social media platform X on Friday that Nightingale's buyout over the next three years has more than doubled to $2 million. The buyout from there will drop but still a notable amount throughout most of his contract. You can see the exact numbers in Earegood's post below: This is the type of move from both Michigan State and Nightingale that shows he plans to be with the Spartans hockey program for a longtime. Which is really good news for Spartans everywhere. Michigan State will enter next season as a preseason top five team, with some already pegging them as the No. 1 team in way-too-early rankings. So, it's safe to say things are great for Michigan State hockey right now, and the news out of Friday only furthered those positive vibes for the Spartans. Big Ben makes bold prediction on Aaron Rodgers' future: 'I think this might be it for him'
Big Ben makes bold prediction on Aaron Rodgers' future: 'I think this might be it for him' Aaron Rodgers hasn't even unpacked in Pittsburgh — and Ben Roethlisberger is already predicting how it all ends. On his podcast, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, the legendary Steelers QB shared why he believes 2025 may be Rodgers' last season in the NFL: 'I don't think he's got much more after this year,' Roethlisberger said. 'I think this might be it for him — personally. I have no reason — you could ask, 'Well how do you know?' I don't know. I'm just guessing in terms of you coming off an Achilles [tear]. Coming off my elbow [injury], my first year back I felt like I was 100. I wasn't even — you don't realize you're not 100 until the next year when you are 100.' Roethlisberger stated that Rodgers will feel healthier this season, but it doesn't necessarily mean he'll play better — before ultimately concluding his speculation on Rodgers' future: '…He's going to feel better, but it doesn't mean that he's going to have two or three years left. I think this might be his last go.' If this truly is his last season — and this may be wishful thinking — here's to hoping Rodgers can lead the Steelers to their first playoff win since the 2016 season.
