Myprotein owner THG cuts profit outlook after deal to sell flavourings brand
The move aligns with plans to simplify the wider group and generate cash to reduce debts on its balance sheets.
THG said it acquired Claremont for £52 million five years ago and had agreed to sell it for double the price.
But following the sale, it expects annual earnings before interest, tax and other costs to be reduced by around £5 million this year, and £10 million next year.
THG revealed its adjusted earnings totalled about £24 million over the first half of this year – down from the £37 million generated last year.
The decline was driven by higher prices of whey – which is used for protein products like powders – than the previous year.
However, this has helped raise consumer prices, leading to a jump in revenues in June and July for the group's nutrition arm, it told investors.
THG said it would limit further price hikes over the second half of 2025 in a bid to retain customers and grow its share of the market.
Matthew Moulding, THG's chief executive, said: 'Claremont has been a huge success, building Myprotein's global licensing franchise from a standing start to partnering with category-leading brands in just a few years.'
He said the decisions the business has taken to grow Myprotein's market share 'aligns clearly with our wider strategy to streamline the group and focus on our core strengths, whilst maintaining a strong balance sheet'.

Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen to bring a slice of Italian heritage back to Oban
Oban is set to welcome Riccardough's, a new food business with a whole lot of history behind it. And one that promises to serve up a taste of authentic Italian pizza, many locals will remember fondly. Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen, a newly refurbished and eye-catching mobile pizza van, will soon be hitting the streets of Oban and surrounding villages. Behind the venture is 61-year-old Riccardo Pacitti, the son of the late Luigi and Dorina Pacitti, who ran the much-loved Luigi's Pizzeria and chip shop in the town for many years. Luigi's chip shop in Oban was a local institution. Known for its authentic Italian pizza and classic fish and chips, it became a community favourite. For years, locals and visitors alike queued for its fresh flavours and the warm, family-run atmosphere that made it a much-missed part of the town's food scene. The Pacitti family were pioneers of authentic Italian pizza in Oban, introducing freshly made bases and traditional toppings to customers long before the trend took off in Scotland. 'I was working in the chip shop at the time and people just loved it,' said Riccardo. 'We were the first in Oban to serve real, fresh Italian pizza. It's something I've always been proud of.' After leaving the family business, Riccardo spent 22 years working at sea. He returned home to Oban in 2020 due to health reasons and the impact of the Covid pandemic. Since then, he has been looking for a way back into the food trade — but finding a restaurant premises proved difficult. 'I was never thinking about a van,' he said. 'But my daughter Natalie and her partner David encouraged me to give it a go.' Natalie runs a successful beauty business Oro Rosa, in the shop premises her grandparents once owned, and David MacPhee runs a digital marketing company, Digital Minded, and the This is Oban website. 'They've really helped me get this off the ground,' Riccardo said. The result is Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen — a fully renovated pizza van that has been in the works since March and has just received a striking new wrap from Impact Branding. Riccardo grew up steeped in Italian cooking, learning recipes and techniques from his parents. He says Riccardough's will allow him to share that heritage with a new generation of customers. Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen will serve at lunchtimes in Oban town centre near Tesco, before moving on to villages such as Connel, Dunbeg and others in the evenings. The van will also be available for parties, weddings and events, with Riccardo working on a set schedule so people know when and where to find it. As for the menu, Riccardo is keeping his cards close to his chest. 'I'm keeping the recipe and flavours under my chef's hat for now,' he said. 'But let's just say they'll be familiar to anyone who remembers Luigi's Pizzeria.' With the final touches being put in place, Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen is expected to open very soon. Best commuter towns in Britain REVEALED - and not one is close to London
London might be the city with the most workers travelling in every day, but new research reveals it doesn't have the best commuter towns - in fact, far from it. None of the best towns for professionals travelling into big cities in 2025 are found around the M25, according to analysis by specialist mortgage lender Pepper Money. It analysed 66 commuter towns surrounding cities including London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Manchester to see how they measured up on a wide range of criteria. These included house prices, rent, commuting time, cost of a rail journey, median salary and quality of life. None of the top towns were anywhere near the capital. Instead, Pepper Money found commuter town gems are dotted around the country, with those close to smaller cities in the North of England making up most of the top ten. Sheffield has the best commuter towns Professionals seeking the perfect commuter base should be looking for a job in Sheffield, the research suggests, as three of the top towns are close to the city. Lower house prices, affordable train tickets and shorter commute times pushes them to the top of the list. Rotherham, just a 17-minute train journey into Sheffield, tops the list of this year's best commuter towns. Not only is it affordable – with an average house price of just £193,000 and rental costs averaging £653 a month – it is a still busy town itself. Plus, a rail journey into Sheffield is just £2.10 – the cheapest price in the top ten towns. The median salary is one of the lower ones on the list at £34,258 but quality of life is still high at 7.9 out of ten. Not only is it close to Sheffield, it is also only a one hour and 15-minute drive from Manchester - perfect for workers straddling both cities. It scores 358 out of a score of 469, according to the Pepper Money analysis. In the silver spot is Dronfield, which also neighbours Sheffield. The town is smaller than Rotherham so it could be more suitable spot for young families searching for a slower pace of life. House prices are slightly higher, however, and are more than the national average at £301,037. Plus, if you are renting be prepared to stump up £1,074 a month. The commute time to Sheffield is 11 minutes and costs £5.20. Its total score is 324. Sheffield also appears in spot eight with commuter town Barnsley. House prices here are just £170,000, one of the lowest across the county's commuter towns. Outside of Sheffield, Manchester and Nottingham offer the best commuter towns based on a variety of factors, the research found. In third place is Beeston which is just six minutes outside of Nottingham. The rail journey costs just £3 and the typical salary is slightly higher than the national average at £38,535. After Beeston is Penarth (Cardiff), Pudsey (Leeds) and Stalybridge (Manchester). Long Eaton, which also neighbours Nottingham, comes in at seventh place. Finishing up the top ten are Widnes, close to Liverpool, and Ilkeston, which is again close to Nottingham. London suburbs worst for commuters Towns in the south score poorly for commuters. Londoners have been heading out of the city centre in droves in recent years as hybrid working surged in popularity. But this research suggests they may be better off relocating cities altogether. Between soaring house prices, long commute times of up to an hour and a poorer quality of life, professionals have better options, says Pepper Money. London commuter towns such as St Albans, Watford and Maidstone are noticeably absent from the list due to soaring house prices and monthly rental costs. In fact, all but two of the ten lowest ranking commuter towns are close to London. The towns that have cheaper house prices and rents are further away from the city centre, pushing them down the list. Luton, for example, has an average house price of £285,000 but has a 36-minute commute to the city centre – and the journey costs £14.70. It is ranked at the bottom of the 66 commuter towns analysed by Pepper Money. Also at the bottom of the rankings is Maidstone with a £361,000 average house price and 53-minute commute, which will set back travellers some £17.90. Basingstoke has the most expensive commute with a £30 ticket price for 44 minutes of traveling. While St Albans has a commute time to the capital of just 21 minutes and residents have an average salary of £53,829, house prices in the area are some £628,000, the highest on the list. Rental costs are £1,869 a month. High-speed broadband collaboration for Scottish homes and businesses
Emtelle, which is based in Hawick with manufacturing sites in Scotland, Germany, Denmark, Abu Dhabi and the US, said the collaboration will see it supply duct, sub-duct and fibre infrastructure for new full-fibre networks to enable 'fibre to the premises' speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second. The infrastructure is being supplied to GoFibre as part of the Edinburgh-based company's fourth contract under the £5 billion Project Gigabit. This contract is worth £105m, and will see GoFibre deliver high-speed broadband connections and download speeds to around 63,000 residents and businesses, in parts of the city of Aberdeen and elsewhere in Aberdeenshire, as well as in Angus, Dundee, the Highlands, Moray, and Perth and Kinross, Emtelle noted. The first connections are due to be delivered by summer 2026. The Scottish Government has noted it plays "a key role in delivering Project Gigabit procurements in Scotland, working closely with the UK Government to deploy funding committed to connect some of the hardest to reach geographies across the UK". GoFibre's network now extends to more than 120,000 premises, and covers in excess of 30 'hard-to-reach' areas in Scotland and the north of England. Emtelle and GoFibre, which was founded in the Scottish Borders town of Duns, joined forces to enhance digital connectivity for 8,000 residents and businesses in Hawick. The Hawick-based company noted it had played a key role by manufacturing and supplying the duct, sub-duct, and fibre needed to deliver full-fibre connectivity to the Scottish Borders town, supporting GoFibre's regional rollout. Gavin Faulds, chief commercial officer of Emtelle, said: 'We are delighted to be strengthening our partnership with GoFibre in order to bring full-fibre connectivity to more than 60,000 premises in the north-east of Scotland. 'As a major Scottish employer, we firmly believe Scotland needs a first-class digital network across every town and village in order to reduce the digital divide and boost economic growth. That is why we are committed to improving its networks, especially for those in rural regions who are the hardest to reach.' He added: 'In the long term, we aim to continue our partnership with GoFibre, and build the infrastructure that further transforms connectivity in both Scotland and the UK.' GoFibre chief executive Neil Conaghan said: 'Our strategic partnership with Emtelle is an important enabler for GoFibre to deliver our Project Gigabit contract in the north-east of Scotland. GoFibre and Emtelle are both Borders-born, and for two Scottish businesses to play such a crucial role in delivering gigabit connectivity for the country shows the strength of local supply chain. We're glad to have Emtelle as our strategic infrastructure partner.'
