MV Minajagi Art Gallery seeks support for infra development

Hubballi: The MV Minajagi Art Gallery, which long struggled to secure a permanent space for its painting exhibitions, has finally regained access to a dedicated building in Vidyanagar. Constructed specifically to support artistic pursuits, the building was handed over to the Dr MV Minajagi Kala Mandir Samiti in Jan. However, the gallery continues to grapple with the lack of basic infrastructure such as electricity and painting. In a bid to address these challenges, the gallery sought assistance from the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) and local elected representatives. The HDMC relocated its zonal office from the first floor to the ground floor of the building, thereby allocating the upper floor exclusively for the gallery's use. Efforts are on to transform the space into a vibrant space for artists and enthusiasts alike. However, support from local authorities and the community will be crucial in realising this vision. GR Mallapur, secretary, Dr MV Minajagi Kala Mandir Samiti, said they approached Hubballi-Dharwad Central MLA Mahesh Tenginakai for funding. "Tenginakai assured Rs 10 lakh for the project and directed HDMC officials to prepare a detailed estimate and begin work. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? The samiti also requested MLA Tenginkai for a separate entrance for gallery visitors and the installation of special lighting to enhance the display of artworks. Mallapur pointed out that cold walls damage the artworks during the rainy season. He stated that the walls need to be repaired and painted to prevent this. "Essential items such as ceiling fans, four tables, 100 plastic chairs, and 10 VIP chairs for guests are also required. A microphone and speaker system are also among the requirements," he said. Other necessities include two shelves to store documents, books, and other materials; installation of CCTVs, one computer, one printer, and an air-conditioning system," he added. Shankar Kadakuntla, an artist and member of the committee, said despite the shortcomings, the gallery managed to conduct seven programmes so far. MLA Mahesh Tenginakai assured that steps will be taken to uplift the art gallery. "Development works will be undertaken in phases, based on the requirements," he said.
