KUWAIT CITY, March 6: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi emphasized the ministry's commitment to enhancing technical and professional performance, as well as preparing and qualifying new generations of doctors in both the public and private sectors. He described this initiative as a fundamental pillar for improving healthcare services and advancing the health sector in Kuwait.
In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) during the Ramadan ghabqa organized by the Kuwait Medical Association on Wednesday, Minister Al-Awadhi noted that the Ministry of Health is continuously working to improve the performance of medical staff. This includes initiatives such as continuing medical education, bringing in visiting doctors, and collaborating with major international institutions, all aimed at providing the highest standards of healthcare.
Al-Awadhi stressed that developing the human element within the healthcare system and supporting the qualification of national medical personnel are key components of the ministry's plan. These efforts are essential for advancing scientific research and ultimately improving patient care, in line with the government's broader goals of supporting the health sector and enhancing Kuwait's position in global medical excellence.
He highlighted the significant achievements of Kuwait's national medical cadres, who have made impactful contributions to global scientific research. Their work has earned recognition in prestigious specialized journals, underscoring the effectiveness of Kuwaiti doctors on the international stage.
The Minister also praised the exceptional level of medical professionals in Kuwait, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding doctors' rights and providing an environment that encourages continuous professional development. He acknowledged the cooperation between the Ministry of Health, the Kuwait Medical Association, and medical profession associations, stressing that the gathering at the Doctors' House Ghabqa symbolizes the importance of communication and unity within the medical community. He expressed his deep gratitude to the doctors for their unwavering dedication and humanitarian efforts, which go beyond the duties of any other profession.
Al-Awadhi reiterated that doctors are the first line of defense in society, playing a crucial role in saving lives and providing essential healthcare to patients.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Kuwait Medical Association, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Tawala, emphasized the importance of the Ramadan Ghabqa as an annual tradition that fosters camaraderie among doctors in a relaxed atmosphere, away from work pressures. He noted that the medical profession is not just about treating patients, but also about serving the community with trust and dedication. He pointed to the pivotal role that doctors played in Kuwait's successful fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting their sincerity and commitment.
Dr. Al-Tawala also commended Kuwait's healthcare system for its effectiveness and efficiency in delivering services. He compared Kuwait's quick access to medical appointments, surgeries, and x-rays to the delays and congestion faced by healthcare systems in other countries.
He concluded by addressing the global challenge of "continuous fatigue" faced by doctors, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions to alleviate work pressure. Dr. Al-Tawala stressed that chronic fatigue could negatively impact both the health and professional performance of doctors, underscoring the importance of creating a fair work environment that supports the well-being of healthcare workers.

Kuwait launches 10th national blood donation campaign to honor martyrs, promote unity

KUWAIT CITY, July 31: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi on Thursday launched the 10th edition of the national blood donation campaign titled 'Together Forever, a Wall for the Homeland,' marking the 35th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. The three-day campaign honors the memory of Kuwait's martyrs and aims to strengthen national unity across government, military, and civil society sectors. In a statement at the launch, Dr. Al-Awadhi described the campaign as a message of loyalty and gratitude to those who gave their lives for the nation. He emphasized that donating blood is both a humanitarian duty and a symbol of national solidarity, encouraging citizens and residents to donate at the Central Blood Bank in Jabriya and other Ministry of Health facilities across the country. 'Donating a drop of blood saves a life,' the minister said, revealing that over 100 blood bags were collected within the first two hours of the campaign—an unprecedented turnout. He also expressed appreciation for the early participation of military personnel, underlining the significance of their involvement. Dr. Al-Awadhi noted that the ministry currently holds a stock of around 32,000 units of blood and platelets, with the goal of expanding reserves through regular national campaigns. The Ministry of Interior reiterated its support through the participation of its staff across all sectors. Colonel Yousef Mirshed, Assistant Director General for Security Relations and Media, said the campaign reflects the ministry's commitment to both security and humanitarian roles. 'This initiative comes in remembrance of our martyrs and highlights our responsibility to serve society beyond the security field,' he said. Colonel Mirshed added that the ministry's contribution reinforces the culture of voluntary blood donation, which is essential for saving lives and upholding noble humanitarian values. Director of Blood Transfusion Services, Dr. Reem Al-Roudhan, said the campaign—now in its 10th year—aims to foster a culture of voluntary blood donation while supporting the country's strategic blood reserves. She praised the consistent involvement of the Ministries of Defense, Interior, and National Guard, as well as civil society and private sector institutions. Dr. Al-Roudhan emphasized that the campaign is part of broader year-round efforts to raise public awareness, promote community partnership, and highlight the life-saving importance of blood donation. She recalled that the ninth edition of the campaign collected 500 blood bags in one day and expects similar outcomes this year. Last year alone, approximately 95,000 units of blood were collected, showing an annual increase of 4 percent. The campaign will continue until August 2 and serves as a national call for altruism, unity, and support for Kuwait's healthcare system.

Protecting trafficking victims a national and moral responsibility: MoH

KUWAIT CITY, July 31: The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health (MoH) reaffirmed on Wednesday its unwavering commitment to combating human trafficking, protecting its victims, and providing them with comprehensive health care services, as part of the State's broader national efforts. The Ministry's spokesperson, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, made the statement on the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed globally on July 30. Dr. Al-Sanad emphasized that the Ministry's role in addressing this issue stems from 'an integrated humanitarian and professional system that encompasses prevention, monitoring, and rehabilitation.' He added, 'Protecting the victim begins from the moment they enter a health facility and continues until they are able to live again in safety and dignity.' The Ministry provides free, comprehensive health services to all victims without discrimination. These include emergency care, ambulance services, full treatment for medically and legally significant cases, and various preventive vaccinations. All services are delivered with strict professional confidentiality and respect for the victims' privacy. Emergency and accident departments at government hospitals are equipped with immediate reporting protocols, ensuring prompt coordination with the relevant authorities in cases of suspected violence or exploitation involving children, adults, or the elderly. Security checkpoints and specialized investigators are stationed in hospitals around the clock to ensure rapid and professional intervention. In such cases, the Ministry also provides legally compliant medical documentation to aid investigations. Highlighting the importance of psychological and social support, Al-Sanad noted that the Ministry deploys specialized teams of psychologists and social workers to shelters to assist victims in overcoming trauma and regaining emotional and social stability, preparing them for reintegration into society. The Ministry has also taken steps to train and qualify healthcare professionals across hospitals and primary care centers to identify and respond to cases of human trafficking. These professionals receive targeted training on the legal and ethical procedures required to handle such cases with sensitivity and responsibility. Al-Sanad stressed that the Ministry views its role in combating human trafficking not only as a medical duty but also as a national and moral obligation. He underscored the importance of community awareness, stating that the Ministry organizes workshops, public awareness campaigns, and commemorates the World Day annually to promote a culture of protection, prevention, and vigilance. He further emphasized that 'the State of Kuwait, under its wise leadership and with the cooperation of its institutions, places human dignity and protection at the core of its priorities,' adding that the Ministry is fully mobilized to safeguard lives, restore victims' confidence, and enable them to live safely. In 2018, Kuwait established the National Committee for the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, aiming to create a society free from trafficking and smuggling, and committed to raising public awareness of the dangers of these crimes. The United Nations General Assembly has designated July 30 as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, to raise awareness of human trafficking, highlight the plight of victims, and advocate for the protection of their rights.
