Tilak Varma slams century on Hampshire debut; departs after scoring 100 in County Championship
Tilak Varma
India batter Tilak Varma had a memorable County debut as the southpaw hammered a century on his Hampshire debut.
The 22-year-old, who was unbeaten on 98 against Essex on the opening day, completed his sixth first-class century on the second day.
However, the southpaw fell right after reaching his milestone, as former South Africa captain Dean Elgar caught him off Simon Harmer's bowling.
Tilak Varma demonstrated that he is not just a big-hitting white-ball tyro, constructing a patient knock after coming to the crease while facing the hat-trick ball.
Doesn't get much better than this 😍
Always time for a beautiful cover-drive ✅

He showed remarkable restraint during a 241-ball vigil to help Hampshire build a measured response to Essex's first-innings total of 296.
Tilak has played four ODIs and 25 T20Is for India and has impressed for the
Mumbai Indians
in the IPL, but has played only 18 first-class matches. He will feature in four County Championship matches for Hampshire.
"Test cricket is my favourite format," Tilak said on Hampshire Cricket's YouTube channel.
"I was waiting for this opportunity.
"I am ranked third in T20Is and everyone thinks that I am a T20 specialist. But for a long time, I've been saying that I am a good Test batter as well. I love to play close to the body and enjoy being challenged," he said.

Not just Draymond Green, Kevin Durant has one other reason behind not returning to Golden State Warriors
Not just Draymond Green, Kevin Durant has one other reason behind not returning to Golden State Warriors (Image Source: Getty Images) Kevin Durant wanted to leave the Phoenix Suns for a while, and his wish has finally been granted now that he is Houston-bound. The 15-time NBA All-Star is going to join the Houston Rockets before the start of next season, as recently reported by Shams Charania of ESPN. The trade won't be formally recognized until after the July moratorium, but that doesn't mean it's not already a done deal. Amid all this, the Golden State Warriors fans, who had hoped for KD to return to the Bay Area, are understandably upset by the recent turn of events. Kevin Durant has a couple reasons behind his unwillingness to return to Golden State Warriors It is known to most that when Kevin Durant was with the Golden State Warriors, there wasn't just prosperity in the team's success, but also a lot of drama. The fight between him and Draymond Green was visible to everyone, which led to a frosty environment in and out of the locker room. He was also unhappy with GSW's defence centric play and wanted to move on and find a new challenge. But what many might not know is that he also had problems with Steve Kerr and his style of coaching. Even if they did end up reconciling later on, things were pretty heated between the two. So it is quite simple to understand why KD would not be willing to return to the Bay Area once more and wants to try something different after a dissatisfied stint with the Suns. According to Logan Murdock of The Ringer: 'Durant's exit from the Bay Area arguably had more to do with his issues with Steve Kerr than any shouting match with Green. Durant repeatedly complained both publicly and privately about Kerr's offensive principles during his final season with the Warriors, and he continued to do so even after he left for Brooklyn. The two have since reconciled, but league sources identify Kerr as among the reasons Durant opted not to return to Golden State at the trade deadline. ' Now, fans are just waiting for the next bout as Kevin Durant leaves for his next destination. As for how it might turn out to be, let's quote KD himself: 'We gon' see what happens, man. We gonna see.' IND vs ENG: 'Scoreline doesn't change that': Gautam Gambhir confirms Jasprit Bumrah will play 'three Tests only'
Jasprit Bumrah in Leeds: India's new era in Test cricket under Shubman Gill began with a five-wicket defeat to England at Headingley on Tuesday, and the spotlight has quickly shifted to the workload management of their premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah . Score: India vs England, 1st Test England pulled off a record chase of 371 to win the first Test and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Despite the loss, India head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that Bumrah will feature in only three of the five Tests - a decision taken before the series began and one that will not change due to the scoreline. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Haven't decided which two matches Bumrah will play but he will play total of three. We need to manage his workload. Scoreline doesn't change that… he will play three Tests only," Gambhir said after the match. Jasprit Bumrah press conference: Lashes out at critics, dropped catches and no balls India captain Shubman Gill echoed a similar sentiment. "(Which games will Bumrah play?) It's decided game-by-game. Once we're close to the next game after a long break, we'll see," he said at the presentation. Poll What do you think about the decision to let Bumrah play only three Tests? It's a smart decision. It might hurt India's chances. Unsure, need to see how it plays out. England's win was historic in more ways than one. They became the first team in over 60,000 first-class games to concede five individual hundreds and still win. Duckett's 149 and Root's unbeaten 53 took them to 373/5, chasing a target of 371. Jamie Smith sealed the win with a six. India, despite scoring 835 runs in the match — including two centuries from Rishabh Pant — were undone by batting collapses of 7 for 41 and 6 for 31 in either innings. The second Test starts July 2 at Edgbaston, and the decision on Bumrah's participation will be a closely watched call. NHL trade rumor: NHL Insider claims Vladislav Gavrikov is going to New York, in a shocking early Free Agency twist
Vladislav Gavrikov #84 of the Los Angeles Kings (Credit: Getty Images) The NHL 's free agency window doesn't officially open until July 1, but that hasn't stopped rumors from dominating headlines. The latest involves Los Angeles Kings defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov, who, according to Elliotte Friedman, has already made his decision. And it's a big one. It's a twist that few saw coming. Gavrikov, a key presence on the Kings' blue line, had largely flown under the radar this offseason. With most speculation focused on flashier names, his quiet status may have been a strategic move. While other free agents have been busy entertaining offers, Gavrikov appears to have acted early and decisively. Vladislav Gavrikov Highlights New York Rangers fill blue line need with Gavrikov If the reports are true, the Rangers may finally be addressing a long-standing concern, defensive depth. Vladislav Gavrikov brings exactly the kind of physical, stabilizing presence New York lacked during their 2024 playoff run. While the contract details remain unclear, the fit seems logical. Gavrikov plays a smart, positional game. He's defensively responsible, logs big minutes, and won't shy away from physical matchups. That's precisely what New York has needed to complement their offensively skilled back end. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Arvonnassa joululoma Berliiniin kahdelle Lue lisää Undo The Los Angeles Kings are set to lose a key defenseman On the flip side, this news is a tough blow for the Los Angeles Kings. Gavrikov had been one of their most reliable defensive players since arriving from Columbus. Letting him walk without a known replacement only raises more questions for a Kings roster that's still in the middle of a competitive push. Whether Los Angeles underestimated his market value or couldn't match the Rangers' offer, the outcome is a significant loss for the Kings' blue line. Free agency may be a week away, but the Vladislav Gavrikov sweepstakes might already be over. And if Friedman's sources are right, the New York Rangers are walking away with one of the biggest steals before the bidding even begins.
