Helen Mirren: I am such a feminist, but James Bond has to be a guy

British actress Helen Mirren has said that while she is a feminist, the next James Bond "has to be a bloke." It comes after Amazon MGM Studios, which has taken creative control over the 007 character, revealed last month that "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight would be writing the script for the next film. The Oscar-winning actress told Saga Magazine: "I'm such a feminist, but James Bond has to be a bloke. You can't have a woman. It just doesn't work. "James Bond has to be James Bond, otherwise it becomes something else." Mirren, 80, stars alongside former 007 actor Pierce Brosnan in the new "Thursday Murder Club" film, a cosy crime drama adapted from the best-selling book by game show host Richard Osman. Pierce, 72, agreed with the actress about the next portrayal of Bond and told the magazine: "Oh, I think it has to be a man." He added: "I wish [Amazon] them well. I'm so excited to see the next man come on the stage and to see a whole new exuberance and life for this character. "I adore the world of James Bond. It's been very good to me. It's the gift that keeps on giving. "And I'm just a member of the audience now, sitting back, saying: 'Show us what you're going to do.' Mirren previously told the Standard that "the whole concept of James Bond is drenched and born out of profound sexism" and added: "Women have always been a major and incredibly important part of the Secret Service, they always have been." In the forthcoming "Thursday Murder Club" film, the veteran actress plays a retired spy, who is also the founder and leader of the club. Speaking about her character Elizabeth, she told Saga: "So many women have worked in that world. She's a manifestation of a reality, that's for sure." Asked if she is a better portrayal of a spy than Bond, she responded: "More realistic. But not so much fun as Bond!" She added: "The great thing about a film like this is that it reminds everyone, as an older person I have a brain. I have agency, energy, commitment, passion, and intellect. It doesn't all stop when you're 40." Brosnan said the film, directed by "Harry Potter" director Chris Columbus, would also appeal to anyone who likes the film series about wizardry and added: "This is like a 'Harry Potter' retirement home." The film, which lands on Netflix on 28 August, follows a crime-busting group of retirees, played by Oscar-winning actress Mirren, "Mamma Mia!" star Brosnan, "Calendar Girls" actress Celia Imrie, and "Gandhi" star Ben Kingsley. Guests and release date revealed for second season of Meghan's show

Netflix has released a trailer for season two of Meghan's lifestyle show – a day after she and her husband, Britain's Prince Harry, announced a watered-down deal with the streaming giant. The teaser, which Meghan also shared on her Instagram, revealed that the next instalment of "With Love, Meghan" will air in two weeks' time on 26 August. Among the celebrity guests joining the former "Suits" star during the eight episodes will be US model and TV personality Chrissy Teigen and "Queer Eye" star Tan France, as well as podcaster Jay Shetty and his cookbook author wife Radhi Devlukia. Also appearing will be chefs Samin Nosrat, Clare Smyth, Christina Tosi, José Andrés, and David Chang, and Meghan's close friends, Pilates instructor Heather Dorak and makeup artist Daniel Martin. The trailer, set to the soundtrack of Bobby Day's upbeat "Rockin' Robin," showed Meghan cooking, baking, and crafting with her celebrity friends and saying: "I love the idea of just spending time together... and finding new ways to show people you care." She adds, while shown wrapping a gift: "There are easy ways to show up, lovingly." Meghan, who is the Duchess of Sussex, also reveals that Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is not a fan of lobster. She tells Andrés as they prepare a dish together: "Do you know who doesn't like lobster? My husband," with the chef replying, prompting laughter from Meghan: "And you marry him?" On Monday, Harry and Meghan announced a "multi-year, first-look deal for film and television projects," in contrast to their reported £76.5 million contract five years ago. PR and crisis expert Mark Borkowski described it as a "downgrade," and suggested Netflix was "pivoting away" from Harry and Meghan. Season one of "With Love, Meghan" was heavily criticised by critics. One review in The Guardian described it as a "gormless lifestyle filler" and "so pointless it might be the Sussexes' last TV show." The series has a 3.2 rating out of 10 on Netflix said at the time that the second season had already finished filming. The Duchess officially launched her lifestyle brand As Ever, in which Netflix is a partner, just hours after season one premiered in March. She has gone on to sell jam, pre-made baking mixes, herbal tea, and rosé wine – as well as flower sprinkles, which she heavily promoted during the programme and which are also seen being used in the new trailer. Netflix said "Meghan draws on her years of home cooking, entertaining, and all-around people pampering" for the Montecito-based show. The trailer shows Meghan embracing France, who tells her after unwrapping a gift: "That is actually giving me goosebumps. That is so lovely." Meghan is also filmed cutting a loaf of fresh bread and remarking: "Look at that." Andrés tells the Duchess everyone should have a Serrano ham holder at home, with an unsure Meghan replying: "You think so?" Shetty's appearance will raise speculation that Meghan could be a possible future guest on his popular "On Purpose" mental health podcast. Seemingly confronted with a basket of assorted flower sprinkles and dried fruit, Shetty is seen saying: "I have no idea where to start." Make-up entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima, who interviewed Meghan for her podcast and also appeared on the Duchess's "Confessions Of A Female Founder" series, also appears briefly in the trailer in a segment filmed outside. Teigen, who has a podcast called "Self-Conscious" and a cookware and baking brand, meanwhile, tells Meghan as they make tiny flower pendants: "Oh my gosh, I could do this every day," and later adds: "Little things like this make me so happy." Meghan is also pictured taking part in a pottery throwing lesson with long-time friend Dorak. Near the end of the one-minute-and-27-second trailer, Meghan says: "I love these moments of discovery and beauty. So let's be curious together." —PA Media/dpa
