Religious leaders oppose women's I-Day marathon
Speaking at a joint press conference at the Hyderabad Press Club, they warned that if the event is not cancelled, they will go to any extent to stop it.
The press conference was addressed by Jamaat-e-Islami district chief Hafiz Tahir Majeed, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Taj Muhammad Nahiyon, JUP central vice president Nazim Ali Arain, Shia Ulema Council leader Syed Moazzam Shah Jehanian, Central Muslim League's Umar Farooq, Tehreek Tahaffuz Khatm-e-Nubuwwat's Saif-ur-Rehman, and others. They said Pakistan was founded in the name of Islam, which strictly prescribes modesty for women, and that a public women's marathon was not only un-Islamic but also against Sharia.

Aurangzeb said international institutions had welcomed Pakistan's reform measures, while recent Gallup surveys showed rising economic confidence. He noted a 60% growth in the stock exchange, an increase in new investors, and 250,000 new company registrations. Aurangzeb suggested the key policy rate could be cut further this year, citing falls in average and core inflation. Earlier in May, governor SBP, in a press conference along with other Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) members, announced a 100 bps cut, highlighting an improved inflation outlook and signs of moderate economic recovery. Beating the market expectations of a 0-50bps cut, the central bank reduced the policy rate by 100bps to 11% in a meeting," wrote Topline Securities. "We expect interest rates to come down to 10% by Dec 2025." Aurangzeb further highlighted ongoing rightsising of 45 ministries, accelerated privatisation of state enterprises, and reductions in electricity tariffs, with further energy cost improvements expected. He assured that taxation reforms would not burden the salaried class and that the prime minister was personally overseeing FBR's transformation. Country progressing rapidly after inflicting defeat on India: Azma
LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bokhari, while addressing a grand concert held at Alhamra Cultural Complex Lahore in connection with Independence Day celebrations, said that Pakistan is now on a new journey, where the country is progressing rapidly after Operation 'Bunyan al-Marsoos.' She stated that the Pakistan Armed Forces not only defeated India on the borders but also dismantled its proxy networks inside the country. The concert was attended by Provincial Ministers Shafiq Hussain, Faisal Khokhar, Special Assistant Salma Butt, Secretary Information Tahir Raza Hamdani, DGPR Ghulam Saghir Shahid, Chairman Alhamra Razi Ahmed, and a large number of citizens. On this occasion, Azma Bokhari paid tribute to the youth, artists, and citizens participating in the event and said, 'We must protect our independence. From gaining independence to protecting it is our theme today. This is the mission we must continue at all costs.' She further said that India is trying to ignite conflict in different regions of Pakistan through its proxies, but the nation has complete trust in its armed forces. 'It is the duty of every Pakistani to uplift the morale of our soldiers,' she added. Azma Bokhari also revealed that internationally acclaimed singer Atif Aslam, despite the passing of his father, wished to attend the event out of national spirit. She said this sacrifice and commitment would be greatly appreciated. She further announced that a special event will be held on September 6, in which Atif Aslam will perform again. Due to high demand, ticket prices had been fixed for the event, but in respect of public sentiment, all ticket holders will now be refunded. The Punjab Information Minister said that the people of Pakistan remember the sacrifices of their martyrs, and it is because of these sacrifices that today we are celebrating our freedom. She concluded by praying, 'May Allah protect our country till the Day of Judgment. This nation is undefeatable, and no one can ever subdue it.' Minorities Day: PCF organises at mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam
KARACHI: On the occasion of Minorities Day, President of the Pak Christian Foundation (PCF), Tariq Samuel, organized a grand ceremony at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam, showcasing a practical demonstration of national unity, harmony, and love for the country. The event was attended by leaders of different religions, representatives of civil society, and citizens from across the country, all reaffirming their commitment to minority rights and religious tolerance. Christian, Sikh, Hindu, and Muslim leaders participated in the ceremony and praised the inclusive efforts of the Pak Christian Foundation, pledging their continued dedication to promoting peace, tolerance, and unity. President of PCF, Tariq Samuel, paid tribute to the sacrifices of minorities in the creation of Pakistan, stating that minorities are an integral part of the nation's identity and progress. 'Pakistan is our country — our forefathers sacrificed for this homeland and as minorities, we have always stood with our nation. We are proud to be Pakistanis and are ready to make every sacrifice for the peace, development, and prosperity of the country,' he said.
