Lisa Riley ‘reacts' to ‘derogatory' joke made by angry Peter Kay

Yahoo11-02-2025
Lisa Riley has reacted to reports Peter Kay made a 'derogatory' joke at her expense during a recent comedy show.
The Bolton comic, 51, was performing in Manchester earlier this week when he had two people ejected for 'heckling' him after being left with 'no option'.
According to reports, Kay was left frustrated when a man repeatedly shouted his catchphrase 'garlic bread' as he delivered jokes as part of his Better Late Than Never Again tour at the AO Arena.
An audience member claimed that, as security escorted the man out, a woman shouted, 'We love you, Peter' – after which the comedian asked security to remove her also.
They told Manchester Evening News that, as she was leaving the premises, he referred to her as former Emmerdale star and You've Been Framed presenter Lisa Riley, which they took to be a 'derogatory' comment about her weight.
After Riley made headlines, she shared a post on her Instagram page, which suggested that she saw the funny side to the situation.
Riley shared an image that read: 'Keep calm and laugh,' adding as a caption: 'It's a laugh, it's funny!'
In a follow-up post on Tuesday (11 February), she categorically told her followers she was 'not offended', saying she 'loves' Kay 'to pieces'.
'Please draw a line under this now,' she wrote. 'I am not offended, never was offended. I love Peter Kay to pieces. Laughter is my favourite medicine.'
However, the attendee who spoke to the Manchester Evening News was left unimpressed by Kay's alleged actions, claiming that he also directed his ire at a group of people who raised their hands when Kay asked if he should eject the woman.
'He then proceeded to shout at them for a good three to five minutes,' they said. 'The audience were mixed – some couldn't believe it and were obviously annoyed – and others were laughing, either thinking it was part of the show or going along with it.'
They continued: 'It was out of order, he was clearly annoyed at something. There was no need to escalate the situation to that extreme.'
The Independent has contacted Kay for comment.
Another attendee wrote on X/Twitter: 'I've lost a lot of respect for Peter Kay after the way he treated the heckler at the end of his Manchester 8 Feb show, having him removed by force by his entourage, and cracking jokes bout it over the 3-4 mins it took. No manners. Huge waste of money.'
Elsewhere, one fan said that the comedian 'killed the atmosphere in the arena', and branded his actions 'completely inappropriate and unacceptable'.
Kay's tour is set to run for 12 months, a record-breaking 100 dates of which are set to take place at the A0 Arena.
In a statement about the tour, the comedian previously said: 'It's been wonderful doing what I love most, stand-up comedy.
'Laughter is more important than ever in these challenging times and with the cost of living still at an all-time high, ticket prices for the new dates will start from £35.'

Michael Franti denies abuse allegations after Soulshine cruise canceled

Spearhead frontman Michael Franti has denied allegations of grooming and sexual abuse, but acknowledged a romantic relationship outside his marriage with an artist he worked with. The revelations coincided with the cancellation of his annual Soulshine at Sea concert cruise. 'I'm aware of the recent posts this artist made about our relationship, and while I support her need to express herself publicly, the relationship was completely consensual, based on mutual feelings and attraction,' Franti wrote in a statement on Sunday, Aug. 17. 'I vehemently dispute any version of the story that says otherwise.' The Oakland-born musician, a regular attraction at local festivals such as BottleRock Napa Valley and Stern Grove, added: 'I will, however, take full accountability for not better recognizing the power imbalance — as she was younger than me, and I was the headliner on tour. For those reasons alone, I never should have allowed the relationship to become romantic.' Franti's statement followed mounting scrutiny after singer-songwriter Victoria Canal alleged in an Instagram post that she had been groomed and sexually abused by a much older, 'very powerful' man in the music industry when she was 19. Canal did not name Franti, but she has previously credited him with discovering her on Instagram in 2018, when she was 19, and inviting her on tour. 'This is something I've never spoken about publicly, and have been holding for eight years now — it has plagued my body, spirit, and mind, in subliminal and overt ways, for my entire 20s,' Canal wrote on Aug. 11, her 27th birthday. She described the man as 'loving, charismatic, and principled' in public, but controlling and abusive in private. 'Behind closed doors, this person has a history of incredibly damaging behavior across the board, and has a team of enablers around him who have fiercely protected his image, perpetuating this behavior for decades,' she wrote. Canal also alleged that he touched and photographed her without consent. 'These behaviors progressed over a year, slowly keeping me more isolated in a highly unfamiliar and contained environment,' Canal wrote. 'At the time, this person made me believe that if I ever told anyone what he was doing, my career would be over before it started.' In the wake of Canal's disclosure, several artists — including ALO, Dispatch, Maggie Rose, Liz Vice and Tank and the Bangas — announced they would no longer participate in the Soulshine at Sea, citing 'deeply concerning allegations.' 'We are actively working to announce a new event that will sail November 4-8, 2025,' the company said, offering ticket holders refunds or future credits.

Pete Davidson says he feels ‘guilty' his girlfriend can't have an ‘ideal pregnancy' because of his fame

Pete Davidson feels guilty that his pregnant girlfriend is navigating their big new life chapter under the media spotlight. Last month, the Saturday Night Live alum, 31, and his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, 29, posted a photo of a sonogram on Instagram to indicate that they were expecting their first child together. But in a recent on The Breakfast Club, Davidson admitted that certain aspects should have been kept private. 'I feel bad for my girl because I bring a lot of s***,' the comedian said on the iHeart Radio show. 'Anything I do or she does now is gonna be a thing.' He continued, saying how pregnancy isn't meant to be a super public experience, but due to how famous he is, a private pregnancy is near impossible. 'She's a very private person, and she's the one doing all the work,' Davidson said. 'It's supposed to be a beautiful experience.' Despite his guilt toward the situation, he says Hewitt hasn't held any resentment toward him over it. 'She's never made me feel this way or said anything,' he said, 'But I feel so guilty and horrible that I could not allow her to have the ideal pregnancy that almost every woman gets to have and enjoy.' The two announced that Hewitt was pregnant last month in an Instagram post with a caption that read, 'welp now everyone knows we had sex.' The carousel featured Hewitt receiving an ultrasound at a doctor's appointment, a sonogram of the baby, and multiple photos of her and Davidson. Hewitt is due in early winter, according to Page Six. Saturday Night Live alum Davidson went public with his romance with Hewitt, a model, in March while the two were on vacation in Florida. A source told The Independent at the time that Davidson and Dewitt only recently started seeing each other, but did not give details on when or how they met. The couple was reportedly looking to move in together by May. She then attended his stand-up comedy show in June, Page Six reported. Before her relationship with Davidson, Hewitt was romantically linked to Benny Blanco, who's now engaged to Selena Gomez. The former couple first started dating in 2019, after Hewitt appeared in the music video for Blanco and the late Juice WRLD's song, 'Graduation.' Meanwhile, Davidson ended his romance with Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline in 2024, months before he started dating Hewitt. He's had many famous girlfriends in the past, including Kim Kardashian, Kaia Gerber, Chase Sui Wonders, Phoebe Dynevor, and Kate Beckinsale. Davidson was also engaged to Ariana Grande for four months before they ended their relationship in 2018.

23 Shallow Reasons People Won't Date Someone

Recently, Reddit user buboop61814 asked, "What's the pettiest reason you wouldn't be with someone?" People had A LOT to say — the post had over 4,400 comments! Here are some of the best and most interesting replies: "I would never date anyone with an outie belly button." —keeziia "I broke up with a little hippie girl because she always had dirty feet. She never wore shoes. I regretted it the rest of college." "They don't know the difference between 'your' and 'you're.'" "If they're REALLY into Phish." —bnovi "If they're a super slow walker. I can't do it." "The way she said my name didn't feel right. Like, the emphasis was on the wrong syllable, and it just bothered me." "I once ended things with someone who was otherwise very nice and compatible because her voice was cartoonishly high, and it grated on me terribly. No regrets, but I felt a little like a Seinfeld character." —CanaryPast8599 "If their phone is always at 3%, and they just don't care. You're too chaotic for my peace." "Guys who always have only 1/8 a tank of gas in their car and are fine with it. 😳" "If their name is Andrew. I already know too many Andrews. I simply cannot add another to the list." —CreatureMacKay "The way she texted. She would send message after message, and they easily could have been just one or two texts. Almost every word was sent as a separate message." "If they follow a bunch of Instagram models or influencers, I'm out." "If they have the same first name as a close relative. Just no." "I once broke up with a man because he drank an excessive amount of soda and left the empty cans IN THE SHOWER. Why was he going through 5-7 cans of various sodas per day — exclusively in the shower? Couldn't be for any normal reason. I noped out of there." "They refused to buy toilet paper and bought paper towels for wiping instead. No thanks." "I broke up with a guy because he was 6'8 and had big feet. I just couldn't imagine laying in bed with him and seeing his big feet towering under the blankets." —Marianne0819 "When I was in eighth grade, I broke up with my girlfriend because she kissed her dog on the mouth. She cried." "If they drive around the parking lot outside a store for 10 minutes looking for the closest space. It takes everything in me not to pitch the biggest hissy fit." "He grunted like a hog when he finished." "I actually broke up with someone because she didn't know what a verb is. We were playing Mad Libs, and when I asked her to give me a verb she said, 'what's a verb?' So I ended it." —Jackpot777 "If they have way more energy than me." "Chewing with their mouth open." And finally, this person broke up with a guy because "the dude had a DOLPHIN LAUGH!" H/T r/AskReddit
