Steelers Get Good News on Joey Porter Jr.
The Steelers have been dealing with a number of injuries at the cornerback position, with Porter, Cory Trice (hamstring) and Donte Kent (ankle/foot) all missing the team's practice session on Sunday. Trice and Kent remain out.
The Steelers signed former Buffalo Bills and Miami Hurricanes defensive back Daryl Porter Jr., following a successful workout. The workout also included former first-round pick C.J. Henderson.
Last season, Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was the most penalized cornerback in the league, but having a Super Bowl champion to learn from in Darius Slay could be beneficial.
Slay revealed in an interview with Mina Kimes of ESPN this offseason that he wants to not only help fix Porter's issues with penalties, but also improve his game in the interceptions department. Porter has only two INTs through his first two seasons.
'They say he can't catch, but we're gonna fix that,' Slay told Kimes. 'We're gonna catch the rock this year.'
Slay has recorded 28 interceptions in his decorated career. The 34-year-old cornerback is a Super Bowl champion, eight-time Pro Bowler and has a first-team All-Pro selection (2017) under his belt. Slay hopes to give Porter and the Steelers young cornerbacks he same wisdom that he passed down to Philadelphia Eagles rookie cornerbacks Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell last season during their Super Bowl title run.
'I have a good resume with younger guys, trying to help build them,' Slay said. 'That's my job. I'm just here to help him, do everything I can to make sure he succeeds at what he does. And try to get him to be one of the best in the game.'
Porter will also have All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey as a mentor in 2025. Both Slay and Ramsey are two very different cornerbacks from a stylistic standpoint, further proving that there's more than one way to get the job done effectively. But there are elements from each of their games that Porter would be wise to try and emulate.
Porter revealed that the addition of Slay will have lasting effects on him past just the 2025 season.
'I told him I used to watch his tape growing up,' Porter said. 'I know a lot of guys don't like when I say that because they feel old, but he's been in this league for a long time. He's a great vet. I've had some great vets before him. I'm just happy to have him in the building and keep learning from him.'

What is the $160K Ammortal chamber Matthew Stafford spent Monday's practice in?
The Rams are pulling out all the stops for their 37-year-old QB Matthew Stafford was supposed to return to practice on Monday following an 'awesome workout' on Saturday, as Sean McVay described it. But rather than putting on pads and his jersey for the first time all summer, Stafford was in street clothes and once again sidelined due to a back injury. It wasn't just that Stafford missed practice, though. He spent some time in what's called an Ammortal chamber – a chrome, futuristic-looking trailer stationed at the Rams' facility in Woodland Hills. So, what on earth is this chamber? And should fans be concerned about their team's 37-year-old quarterback? Let's dive in. What is an Ammortal chamber? Because the description is full of medical terms and advanced technological phrases, we'll let the Ammortal website explain what this chamber is. Looking for the absolute state of the art in restoration and rejuvenation? Our stacked technologies deliver hours of restorative modalities in just one short 30 minute session that leaves most individuals feeling in a state of calm but 'caffeinated like' energy. Bring a powerful reset and recharge to unlock your true potential. In layman's terms, it's a zero-gravity chair (table) that a person lies on to help with rest and rejuvenation. It 'quickly calms your nervous system, shifting you out of fight-or-flight mode so your body can fully absorb the various modalities and stimulate recovery. Whether you're looking to recover from daily stresses or aiming to enhance your long-term wellness, the Ammortal Chamber is the fastest way to reset, recharge, and rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit—helping you look, feel, and perform better. It sort of sounds like something out of a 'Black Mirror' episode. What does it look like? It doesn't look like anything you'll see at a regular physician's office or at the chiropractor. Totally normal, right? How much do these chambers cost? Ready for this? $159,500. They're incredibly expensive, though we don't know exactly how much they are for an NFL team to rent in a trailer like the one Stafford used. Financing is available if you're interested, though. What happens in the chamber? According to the Ammortal website, these chambers use multi-wave Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields "that utilize short-duration electrical pulses that may treat various health conditions," such as pain relief. They also use Vibroacoustic Sound Therapy "that combines music, voice and sound with vibration to promote relaxation and well-being." There's Multi-Wavelength Light Therapy, too: "Also known as low-level light therapy or photobiomodulation, involves the use of specific wavelengths of red or near-infrared light to stimulate cellular function and promote various health benefits." And finally, Molecular Hydrogen: "Molecular hydrogen, also known as hydrogen gas therapy or hydrogen inhalation therapy, has gained attention in recent years for its numerous potential health benefits as a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory." Should Rams fans be concerned? Maybe? Maybe not? It's hard to say, but it's never great when your 37-year-old quarterback has a back injury so painful that it requires an epidural and a $160,000 chamber to help.

Lions safety Morice Norris in concussion protocol, Dan Campbell says
Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris, who was taken off the field in an ambulance late in a preseason game last week, is in concussion protocol and doing well, coach Dan Campbell said Monday. "We're going to take it nice and easy here to make sure he's good over the next 10 to 14 days and reassess," Campbell said. "That's good news." After spending Friday night in an Atlanta hospital following the exhibition game against the Falcons that ended early, Norris flew back to Detroit on Saturday and returned to the Lions' facility on Sunday. "It was great, everybody was fired up to see him. It's a breath of fresh air," Campbell said. "It's hard when something like that happens and you don't know. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen guys with concussions knocked out — I've had them myself — but when you have these and then you don't know. You know they're breathing, but you don't know anything else. And they're gone. It's just different, it's a little different because you're trying to block that out, but it's still there." Norris said in a social post Saturday that he was OK and thanked people for their support. He was hospitalized in stable condition late Friday after being attended to for about 20 minutes by medical personnel at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The 24-year-old Norris was hurt with 14:50 left in the game after hitting Falcons running back Nathan Carter. He hit Carter with his facemask, facing the running back's midsection, and his head snapped back after assisting on the tackle. In a show of concern and unity, members of both teams held hands in a circle on the field after the injury. Campbell and Atlanta coach Raheem Morris made the decision not to finish the game. "We talked to (official) Shawn Hochuli (and he) let us know that the game is still on. We communicated with each other, we told Shawn we'll be taking knees," Campbell said Monday. "He said, 'I understand.' And that's the way it went. Then the game was called." Norris, a former Fresno State standout, played in two regular-season games and one in the playoffs as a rookie in 2024 after earning a spot on the team as an undrafted free agent. He is competing for a safety roster spot with Lauren Strickland and Ian Kennelly, behind All-Pro Kerby Joseph and Pro Bowler Brian Branch. The Lions and Dolphins face off in training camp on Wednesday and Thursday before meeting in a preseason game Saturday at Ford Field.

Still nursing a back injury, Matthew Stafford doesn't join practice with Rams as originally planned
LOS ANGELES — Quarterback Matthew Stafford did not practice with the Los Angeles Rams on Monday as originally scheduled. The 37-year-old Stafford has yet to practice in training camp or the preseason this summer while dealing with back soreness. Coach Sean McVay said last weekend that Stafford would participate in individual work Monday morning, but Stafford instead attended the practice in street clothes at the Rams' training complex in Woodland Hills.
