MELAKA: A total of 3,800 packs of meat were distributed during 'Ibadah Korban Perdana' (Grand Qurban Ceremony) held by the Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary constituency in conjunction with the Aidiladha celebration.
Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim said 15 cows were sacrificed and the meat was distributed to recipients including the underprivileged group (asnaf), single mothers, senior citizens, B40 families, and local residents.
'The qurban ritual is not only about fulfilling religious obligations but also symbolises compassion and solidarity within the community.
'These are the values we aim to cultivate in Hang Tuah Jaya, ensuring that no one is left out from experiencing the joy and blessings of Aidiladha,' he said in a statement today.
Adam Adli, who is also the Member of Parliament for Hang Tuah Jaya, said the initiative also reflected the constituency's efforts to strengthen the spirit of unity and communal care in line with the Malaysia MADANI principles, which emphasise empathy, inclusivity and social well-being.
'We also extend our thanks to all parties involved, especially the staff and volunteers who arrived as early as 8.30 am to ensure the smooth execution of the sacrificial ritual, meat processing, and distribution,' he added.
The ceremony, organised by the Hang Tuah Jaya Parliamentary Service Centre, was held at Dataran Mat Riau, Bukit Baru, involving around 120 members and volunteers from Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK).

'Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni,' theme of 2025 National Day, Malaysia Day celebrations

KUALA LUMPUR: 'Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni' is this year's National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, with the Malaysia Madani logo remaining the official symbol. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the theme reflects the government's priority in protecting people's welfare, following the Malaysia Madani aspiration that upholds the values of unity and prosperity. "…several key events have been planned to ignite the spirit of independence, among them the National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang launch ceremony, which will take place on July 27 at Dataran Tanjung Emas, Muar, Johor. "The National Day 2025 celebration will be held on Aug 31 at Dataran Putrajaya, while this year's Malaysia Day celebration will occur on Sept 16 in Penang in line with the rotational practice whereby the location alternates each year between Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia," he said. He spoke to reporters during the weekly press conference held at the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute in Angkasapuri. Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi were also present. Fahmi also announced that 14 complementary events will be held, including the Merdeka Countdown, the 2025 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang, and Wayang Pacak Merdeka (open-air cinema). He added that the 1 Rumah 1 Jalur Gemilang initiative, introduced last year to encourage Malaysians to fly the national flag, will continue this year with two additional new clusters, the industrial cluster and the government agency cluster. "In 2024, we successfully implemented this programme across five clusters, with a total of 698 activities carried out. The five participating clusters were Education, Higher Education, Health, Security, and Community. "This programme will encourage Malaysians to fly the Jalur Gemilang at their homes, offices, business premises, government agencies and their vehicles," he said. Fahmi also reminded the public to observe proper etiquette when flying the Jalur Gemilang, including not using damaged or torn flags. "The public can get more information about the celebrations, programme locations, and campaign materials through the official Merdeka360 portal," he added.

Salleh moots friendly fights in overlapping seats for Sabah polls

Published on: Tuesday, June 10, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jun 10, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: Former Sabah chief minister Salleh Said Keruak said factors to be considered before deciding on friendly races include past election results, local support levels, proposed candidates, and potential seat swaps. (Wikipedia pic) PETALING JAYA: A Sabah Umno leader has proposed that parties contesting the upcoming state election consider friendly races in overlapping seats while remaining united in their overall goals. Salleh Said Keruak, the Sabah Umno treasurer, said rather than letting overlaps cause friction or lead to proxy independent candidates, it would be more constructive to consider friendly contests. Advertisement 'A friendly contest is not a free-for-all. It's a planned, respectful arrangement where parties agree to contest the same seat, with the understanding that whoever wins, the seat remains part of the coalition,' he said in a Facebook post. He said that to manage the arrangement effectively, parties must balance political realism with respect for one another's grassroots presence. 'Friendly contests are not about ego – they're about finding practical solutions on the ground. 'If at least half of Sabah's 73 state seats can be settled without overlaps, that already builds a strong foundation. For the rest, friendly contests should only be used when negotiations don't produce agreements, and even then, only with a clear understanding,' he said. Salleh, a former chief minister, said factors to be considered before deciding on friendly races included past election results, local support levels, proposed candidates, and potential seat swaps. He said this approach, which was also taken in countries like India, Germany, and Indonesia, would help reduce tension among party machineries, maintain unity, and give voters clarity. 'Some may argue that it's better to go solo and form a coalition after the election. But that creates uncertainty – for voters, candidates, and future governance. It opens the door to personal agendas and unstable post-election deals. 'A pre-election coalition gives clarity, builds trust, and leads to more stable outcomes,' he said. Last week, Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin said the party would not work with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah in the state election and would only consider joining forces with the coalition after the outcome of the polls. GRS chairman Hajiji Noor said on Thursday that the coalition would only decide on its alliances for the state election at its Supreme Council meeting after Aidiladha. While Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan have already announced an alliance for the Sabah polls, talks are said to be ongoing to rope GRS into the pact. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
