Greet police with respect when they visit your home: Srinath tells Mysureans

on Wednesday appealed to people to greet the police with respect if they visit their doorstep on duty.
He was speaking after launching Mysuru police's Mane Mane Police initiative by distributing posters to a police constable at a function organised by the Mysuru City police at KSOU convocation hall in Muktagangotri in the city.
He said that the initiative launched by the police aims at establishing people-friendly initiatives. The outreach also aims to involve citizens in community policing to enhance city safety. It bridges the gap between citizens and police, helps strengthen their relationships, and boosts confidence and trust with the police force, he noted.
He said that he too had different opinions about the police before coming into contact with the cops.
But his notion about the police completely changed after he started to work along with them in various initiatives and activities. Policing is a tough job. They meet all kinds of people, work round-the-clock for public safety, and focus on maintaining law and order and traffic management, he stated.
City police commissioner Seema Latkar said that this initiative was launched following the direction of home minister G Parameshwara.

"Till recent years, people were visiting the police to file complaints, to address their grievances, but now the police will visit their doorsteps to resolve their grievances under the initiative. Police officers will visit every household to listen to their grievances and provide solutions as per the law. The intention behind this scheme is resolving the issues of citizens quickly," she said.
She also said that the department has given the directions to each police to cover 50 housing clusters in their police jurisdiction under the beat system.
PSI, ASI level officers will supervise this police-citizen friendly initiative in all police stations.
Police will also spread awareness among people about the prevention of crimes and thefts, besides lodging complaints, and providing information about crimes witnessed in their locality, in and around their homes. Information providers will be kept confidential during their visits. A citizen head will also be formed for a cluster of 250 houses.
She also appealed to the public to extend all cooperation with the police in maintaining law and order, and prevention of crimes as their duty aims at protecting public interest and safety.
Deputy commissioner of police (law and order) Bindu Mani, DCP (crime and traffic) KS Sundar Raj, ACPs Raviprasad (Vijayanagar sub-division), Ramesh (Krishnaraja), Rajendra (Narasimharaja), and R Shivashankar (traffic) were present.

Woman SI held for colleague's suicide
Gaya: A woman sub-inspector in Gaya, Sweeti Kumari, was arrested on Saturday for alleged blackmail that police say drove fellow officer and batchmate Anuj Kashyap to take his own life. Kashyap, posted in the SSP's office as media in-charge, was found hanging at his private residence in Mohan Nagar under Rampur police station on Friday. Both officers joined the Bihar Police in 2019 and were posted in Gaya district. City SP Ramanand Kumar Kaushal, who heads the special investigation team formed to probe the case, said, "A case under relevant sections of the BNS for blackmail and abetment of suicide has been registered against her on the basis of a written complaint from the deceased officer's father, Bhawnath Mishra." In his complaint, Mishra alleged that Sweeti repeatedly blackmailed and pressured his son to marry her, despite knowing he was already married. Kashyap's wife, who is pregnant, is preparing for the UPSC examination in Delhi. The two became close in 2019 while serving at Imamganj police station. State Bar Council issues notices to 16 lawyers over ‘bench hunting'
Chandigarh: The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana (BCPH) has issued notices to 16 lawyers, including two senior advocates, in connection with allegations of "bench hunting" in a high-profile case involving real estate developer Roop Bansal. The council issued the notice following a suo motu inquiry initiated by the privilege committee after media reports and court observations hinted at attempts to manipulate the bench allocation process of the Punjab and Haryana high court. The privilege committee, chaired by Raj Kumar Chauhan, convened on Aug 7 to examine records in CRM-M-19843-2025 (Roop Bansal vs State of Haryana), along with related high court orders and news reports. The committee observed that the allegations, if proven, amount to a grave attack on the dignity and ethics of the legal profession. The lawyers who have been asked to file a response to the issue are J K Singla, Sidharth Bhardwaj, Aditya Aggarwal, Gagandeep Singh, Anmol Chandan, Baljeet Beniwal, Harsh Sharma, Sauhard Singh, Rupender Singh, Ankit Yadav, Ashim Singla, Aakash Sharma, Bindu, APS Shergil, senior advocate Rakesh Nehra, and senior advocate Puneet Bali. All are alleged to have appeared or acted on behalf of Roop Bansal in the matter. The committee noted that records prima facie suggest advocate J K Singla may have played a "key role" in orchestrating the strategy, but stressed that such actions were likely carried out "in an organised manner" with involvement from other "ingenious minds" yet to be identified. The order also called for responses from prominent senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Mukul Rohatgi to ensure a comprehensive adjudication. The lawyers have been asked to appear before the privilege committee on Aug 16 at 3 pm, either in person or through counsel, and to submit written replies. The committee likened the alleged practice of bench hunting, seeking a particular bench perceived to be favourable, to "rotten apples in the basket" and stressed the need to remove them before the entire profession's integrity is compromised. It also appealed for information or complaints from advocates or affected persons, to be sent via the committee's email or official WhatsApp number. "The legal profession is not merely a career — it is a calling that demands unshakable integrity, moral courage, and devotion to the cause of justice," the order concluded, warning that ethical breaches by even a few can corrode public faith in the entire system. Importantly, the matter came into the limelight after a complaint was received by Chief Justice Sheel Nagu of the Punjab and Haryana high court, and the matter was de-listed from the bench of Justice Mahabir Singh Sindhu, who reserved its verdict after hearing the matter. The Chief Justice, in its order, hinted at bench hunting by the lawyers in this matter. Prior to referring the matter to Justice Sindhu, several benches recused themselves from hearing. Interestingly, even after taking the matter from Justice Sidhu, several other judges of the HC recused themselves from hearing this case. The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday conducted searches at 26 houses, including that of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Mohammad Amin Bhat alias "Jehangir Saroori", in a massive clampdown on the terror ecosystem in the Kishtwar district, officials said. "The raids were aimed at disrupting the local support network for cross-border terrorists, gathering actionable intelligence related to anti-national activities, and sending a strong deterrent message to individuals or groups engaged in supporting or sheltering such elements," the spokesperson said.
