HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Ride inspectors from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) took a trip to Holiday world to inspect rides and equipment.
In a post to social media, the department shared its trip and informed the public on how to spot ride permits and ensure equipment is safe.
'One of the most important things when it comes to safety is redundancies,' Amusement Ride Inspector Micheal Gann said. 'So we have our inspectors that are trained and certified, in this case Holiday World has there own inspectors that are trained and certified as well. So the more sets of eyes you have, especially someone that has experience with the equipment, you're going to see different things. And having those redundancies is really how you get a robust safety guideline and system.'
Officials with Indiana Homeland Security say ride permits will be visible near the ride operator's station. If you spot expired or missing permits, report them to the IDHS Amusement Ride Hotline at 1-888-203-5020.
'Holiday World has been a great partner for us and I have no doubt that public safety is top notch,' Gann said.

Impact of Trumps travel ban in the Tri-State

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — President Donald Trump's complete travel ban of 12 countries and a partial ban of 7 others certainly has implications on an international level, but a University of Evansville professor says even locally some impacts can be felt. Dr. Amanda Krause is the dean of the college of arts and sciences with her phd in political science. She says that message comes with ripple effects. 'It kind of sends a message to the international community that the United States as a country wants to limit the influx of people into the country,' Krause said. 'The way you would see that in a community like Evansville is that you might see a decrease in some economic activity.' This policy from the Trump administration is similar to the one that went into effect during the president's first term in 2016. Since the first travel ban UE leaders say the university has seen a decline in international students. Dr. Krause says a number of factors can contribute to that decline but these bans play a role. 'This particular travel ban and more broadly speaking this administrations' policies in the last 100 days are probably sending a message internationally that will result in lower international student enrollment across the country, likely I can't say 100 percent,' Krause said. Away from campus some in the community say they were shocked by the decision. Haiti was one of the 12 countries completely banned from travel into the U.S. The Haitian Group of Evansville provided a statement. Below is their full statement: 'Like many, we were surprised by the President's announcement of a travel ban last night. Weare actively researching the details of this policy to ensure we can provide clear, accurateinformation to our Haitian neighbors in Evansville and across Southwest Haitian Resource Center is a nonprofit organization that empowers the Haitian communityby offering vital resources, opportunities, and support. Our top priority at this time is to ensureour community is informed and prepared, and we remain committed to standing with themthrough this uncertainty.' Director, Haitian Center of Evansville Gelina Mascoe Dr. Krause says she doesn't expect the bans and restrictions to be as contentious as it was in 2016 because the administration gave a more detailed list as to why countries were banned. Daredevil group debuts for the summer at Holiday World

SANTA CLAUS, Ind. (WEHT) — Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, Holiday World is welcoming a summer-long attraction to the park. The Nerveless Nocks will be putting on the stunts, and it's promising a Las Vegas-caliber show. Soaring through the sky, jumping rope four stories in the air, bending in all different fashions, defying gravity: this is just a sneak peek into what Holiday World unveils at the park. Replacing the park's dive show and a group coined by Queen Elizabeth, The Nerveless Nocks is spending the entire summer at what's considered America's first theme park. 'It's so beautiful here, and I guess that's why people come here. It's like a hidden jewel in the forest, and we just love it. Looking forward to a great summer,' The Nerveless Nocks President Michelangelo Nock says. The seventh generation owner says his group predates all of us, establishing in 1840 in Switzerland and traveling the world before eventually sharing the same stage with The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. Meanwhile in Santa Claus, the Holiday World staff say they were looking to improve their guest experience and believed it was time for a change. Beginning last fall, the park started talking with The Nerveless Nocks about bringing its show to Holiday World and some park guests attending the first show Friday morning tell me it's a worthwhile decision. Parkgoers couldn't help but look in awe — or look aware in anxiousness — and capture the act on their smart phones. The daredevils hailing from Florida, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Mexico even grabbed the attention of others waiting in lime for a nearby ride. For thirty minutes at a time, they go into the spinning wheel 40 feet off the ground, inside the sphere of fear with motorcycles and put on a jet pack and soar 30 feet in the air. 'It was wonderful. And the jet ski. That was my favorite. The jet ski — the jetpack was awesome,' says Jessica Hare visiting the park from Henderson. 'I had to leave, and I came running back when I saw it.' 'I love it a whole lot — the circus — more than the dive show,' says Madison Woodard from Evansville. 'A whole lot more.' There's still plenty of time for the Tri-State to see these performers for themselves. They go on stage three times a day each day the park is open from now until Labor Day. 'When we get performing as a team, we see the smilies on people's faces — the fun they're having,' says performer from Wisconsin Troy Stowe. 'We have so much fun as well. So, it's great to be out here and going live with these guys.'
