Bayt Al Khair spent Dhs10,504,184 on humanitarian initiatives last month
Bayt Al Khair revealed that its total expenditure for April 2025 amounted to Dhs10,504,184, bringing the cumulative spending for the first four months of 2025 to Dhs85,954,842.
Humanitarian support programmes topped the list, with expenditures totaling Dhs39,698,079 during the same period.
These programmes aim to alleviate the hardships faced by individuals struggling with their livelihoods, addressing deficiencies beyond their financial capabilities.
This expenditure is in addition to the monthly cash assistance projects targeting low-income Emirati families, which amounted to Dhs5,569,620 during the same period.
The emergency assistance project falls under the "Fazaa" community solidarity programme, dedicated to relieving the burdens of modest families and those facing sudden crises or disabilities, enabling them to overcome their challenges and resume their normal lives.
Through this initiative, "Bayt Al Khair" also provides humanitarian support to patients, both citizens and residents, via the "Treatment" project, which spent Dhs13,192,508 by the end of April.
Additionally, the programme assists individuals burdened by debts they cannot repay through "Al Gharimin" project, which has expended Dhs3,118,087 so far.

170 Emirati authors drive cultural dialogue at ADIBF
The UAE's creative industry – centred around the authors – took centre stage at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) 2025, organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) from April 26 April to May 5 under the theme 'Knowledge Illuminates Our Community.' The fair reported wide participation from stakeholders across the UAE's cultural landscape, including publishing houses, authors, writers, thinkers, researchers, and intellectuals. Their active engagement was integral to the fair's diverse programme, designed to reach all segments of society and age groups, in line with the UAE's designation of 2025 as the 'Year of Community.' The ADIBF sought to promote the growth of the local literary industry and reinforce national cultural identity. It honoured a distinguished group of Emirati creatives who have made lasting contributions to the sector's growth over the years, while encouraging emerging Emirati talent from across various cultural fields. These efforts reflect a continued commitment to sustainable cultural development and the advancement of the publishing sector. The 34th edition of the fair witnessed notable local engagement, with over 170 Emirati intellectuals and writers taking part in the programme's sessions and workshops. A total of 275 Emirati exhibitors participated in the event, alongside 70 government entities, each contributing a range of activities. The Arts Corner featured 28 artists, 22 of whom were Emirati, while the World Cuisine Corner hosted 48 sessions, featuring contributions from 24 internationally renowned chefs, including 12 Emiratis. A range of initiatives were launched at the ADIBF 2025 to support Emirati talent, most notably the 'Self-Publisher' initiative, which brought together 20 Emirati writers. Court jails 2 for abusing drugs at Dubai Taxi labour accommodation
Dubai Misdemeanour Court sentenced two Asian nationals to three months in jail, to be followed by deportation, and banned them from transferring or depositing any funds to others, either personally or through intermediaries, without prior approval from the Central Bank of the UAE, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior. The ban will remain in effect for two years after the completion of their sentence. The suspects were charged with abusing narcotics in a labour accommodation. The incident dates back to January 2025 when a supervisor at a Dubai Taxi labour accommodation filed a report stating that during a routine inspection, he found the two suspects in their room consuming a substance suspected to be narcotics, appearing in an abnormal state. He added that one of the suspects admitted their coworker had provided the substance for Dhs10 so both were detained, and the police were notified. A policeman stated in the interrogations that the suspects were arrested, and a cigarette containing a suspected narcotic substance was found in their possession. They were reportedly taken to the General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics, where samples were collected and sent to the Dubai Police Forensic Laboratory for analysis. Lab results affirmed that the seized substance was a dried herbal narcotic listed in the drug schedule, which had been stuffed into a cigarette. Additionally, the suspects' samples tested positive for narcotics. The first suspect claimed the substance belonged to the second, who confessed that another coworker, who was later arrested and tried, had supplied the narcotic for Dhs10, after he asked him to collect the substance from an African national.
