Mariska Hargitay ‘devastated' when Meloni left SVU
The 61-year-old star, who plays Olivia Benson in the long-running crime show, revealed on the Call Her Daddy podcast that she was 'devastated' when Meloni, 64, left at the end of season 12.
'The entire world was just devastated - it happened very quickly, and it was surprising,' she told host Alex Cooper of his 2012 departure. Hargitay and Meloni played Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler, partners in the Special Victims Unit from 1999 to 2012. Credit: Supplied
'It was over a negotiation, and I tried everything I could to fix or change it.'
'He left. I was devastated.'
She followed up by saying despite missing him as a co-star, it was 'awesome' that Meloni was able to do 'all these other great shows' since his departure.
Meloni's character Elliot Stabler has since become the star of spin-off Law & Order: Organized Crime, which has run since 2021. Elliott Stabler has starred as the lead in spinoff show Law and Order: Organised Crime Credit: NBC
The actor briefly returned to the world of SVU during season 22 in 2021 and has continued to make occasional small appearances on the series in recent years.
During the podcast Cooper, 30, also asked Hargitay one question SVU fans have been dying to know about the actors' on-screen personas: after 26 years of 'will they, won't they', will Olivia and Elliot ever end up together?
'Maybe on the last episode, that's when I think they should be together,' Hargitay teased the show's fans.
'We are soulmates in a way, we are, and I think that Chris has had a profound impact on my life, my artistry – let's see where the story takes us.'

Dave Franco talks 'weird' Zac Efron dating rumour
Dave Franco says the weirdest rumour he ever heard about himself is that he was dating Zac Efron. The 40-year-old actor – who has been married to Alison Brie, 42, since 2017 – revealed an ex-girlfriend called to question him about his relationship with his Neighbors co-star after a photoshopped image of them appeared online. Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Dave said: 'This girl that I was kinda seeing at one point reaching out and being like 'hey, what's this all about?' and it was this photoshop of me and Zac Efron at like a basketball game where we're getting like really cosy together. Then there were all these headlines that maybe we were dating. And I think that had some legs too.' Dave also confirmed that he was responsible for Zac, 37, dislocating his thumb while filming a scene in Neighbors where Zac had to grab Dave's crotch. He said: 'It definitely wasn't because my penis was hard. Yeah. I'm trying to remember if I was wearing a cup and he came in just really strong. I think it was a dislocated thumb to be fair, but it, it happened. There's a scene where I think we're both grabbing each other's crotches at the same time. And I just think he came in with enough force from the wrong angle. 'The character actually, now that I think about it, not to walk through the whole synopsis of Neighbors in this interview, but he grabs my crotch and we're both holding on like who's gonna let go first and then my character actually to get him to let go, I have a trick where I go Zen and I know how to get hard on cue. So, I do get hard in this hand. That's what makes him let go.' Zac previously discussed the incident during a 2014 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, joking that he broke his hand because Dave had 'balls of steel'.

Dave Franco confesses to getting intimate at Disneyland
Dave Franco once had sex at Disneyland. The 40-year-old actor - who is married to actress Alison Brie - has revealed that he once made love on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. Appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Dave shared: "Something may have happened at one point on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. "The f***** up part about that is, I think there's cameras on every inch of that place, but we were pretty covert. We'll leave it at that..." Dave stars alongside his wife in Together, the new supernatural body horror film, but he actually prefers to keep his personal life out of the spotlight. The Hollywood star shared: "I generally am [a private person], which makes doing promo for any movie a little strange because it's not me in my element. "But at the same time, I've also gotten much better at this where I recognise this is a big part of my job and I'm just going to lean in and I'm going to do my best and I'm going to be as vulnerable as I can be." Meanwhile, Alison - who has worked with Dave on movies like 2023's Somebody I Used to Know - recently revealed that the couple's 'shorthand has gotten shorter and shorter' in their professional relationship. The actress and Dave love working together, but they're still "very selective" about the projects they commit to. Alison told Collider: 'I think, to do this project, we have acted in some things together, and by this point, Dave has directed me in a couple of movies, we wrote a film together. "Our shorthand has gotten shorter and shorter to where it's like a mind-meld, eye-contact thing. "We've been together over a decade, so has this couple in the movie. We're very selective about projects that we will act in together. "We read scripts quite often, where we would act together, and it's all about which one makes the most sense, and this one did."
