A RESTAURANT in Aberdeenshire is going global - after opening a second branch more than 3,000 miles away.
Popular seafood spot Fish Shop, in Ballater, has earned rave reviews since opening two years ago and customers wondered whether they'd expand throughout Scotland.

But the owners have gone one step further and launched a new location in the US capital, Washington, DC.
Run by Artfarm – a hospitality and development firm operated by owners of Braemar's Fife Arms Hotel – it has a bar with three private dining rooms.
The Ballater restaurant was named as one of Conde Nast Traveller's Best New Restaurants in the World within 12 months of opening and it was one of 36 eateries to receive the honour of Bib Gourmand Restaurants distinction in the Michelin Guide this year.
It's hope the eatery will enjoy similar success across the pond after landing on The Wharf, the site of the oldest open-air fish market in North America.
Tasty dishes such as their crab crumpets will make the move to the US where meals can be cooked in a dedicated fish preparation room.
Artist Angela Eastman, based in North Carolina, was commissioned alongside Helen Jackson in Aberdeenshire, to create a 200 basket-weave fish shoal suspended from the ceiling.
While the restaurant also has a custom-designed Araminta Campbell tartan on the chairs and walls, with colours of the twine used in traditional fishing nets too.
Meanwhile, a popular restaurant chain is closing its busy branch in a Scottish airport, leaving travellers gutted.
Bosses at Glasgow Airport have revealed that Frankie and Benny's will now close the much-loved branch for good.
The family-friendly New York Italian restaurant is located in the airport's departure lounge.

And it was a favourite among holidaygoers for its gluten-free options, cheaper prices and delicious food.
The diner is open seven days a week and the staff serve customers from 3.15am until the last flight of the day.
The closure comes as airport bosses revealed their major plans to "shake things up."
The chain is set to be replaced with Sanford's - an American-style eatery that hopes to go down a treat with travellers.
It is expected to serve up "unreal" milkshakes, delicious burgers and "plenty more" American diner classics.

Ayla decided to leave her high-earning job as an engagement manager in marketing for a slower pace of life in rural Italy. Last month, Ayla flew from London for the Italian countryside to take an unpaid job picking grapes at a winery every day. Despite receiving no income, Ayla has all her meals and accommodation included, insisting that she's getting paid more than enough in experience and core memories. Ayla added that she's learned more in her weeks working at the winery than in the years she spent climbing the corporate ladder. Now a certified fruit-picker, Ayla is urging others to consider swapping out their own nine-to-fives for a simpler life outdoors. She plans to eventually return to London but to work in hospitality so that she can maintain the 'flexibility' to travel that her new lifestyle brings. Ayla, who is originally from Sydney, Australia, said: "I learned a lot in my old job but I felt like something was lacking and missing from my life. ‌ The 27-year-old felt spurred into quitting the corporate grind following the end of her three-year relationship, which led her to reconsider the trajectory of her life. "What kind of propelled me to go to the UK was that I had just gotten out of a three-year relationship with my ex. We had just drifted apart and got to the point where I couldn't do it anymore. It was devastating. "We were living together and after that ended it was a sudden halt in where I thought the rest of my life was heading. "I had time to re-evaluate the trajectory of where I wanted to be. All of my friends are in long-term relationships. I'm just doing the complete opposite. "People say 'aren't you worried about not finding someone?' but that's not even on my cards right now." The idea came when Ayla stumbled upon a website advertising grape-picking near the neighbourhood of Tortona, Italy. Ayla said: "I really wanted to have that authentic experience of working in a winery. "I'm just in the fields picking grapes - it's awesome. The family is teaching us about what the whole process entails. "And my love for wine is part of the reason why I chose this too. It's very quiet here and you have that time to reflect. "I feel like I learned more in two weeks at the winery than I did in two years at my old job. Although I'm not getting paid any actual income, I'm getting paid in experience and building these core memories I'll always hold onto. Money comes and goes. "I think it'll actually make me a better worker if I ever go back into corporate. There is no timeline and it's your life at the end of the day. Never live your life for someone else. "I definitely recommend it - it's an amazing experience. It's everything I've ever needed at this time in my life. Even though it's 'unconventional', you can always go back to that corporate lifestyle. It'll always be there." Ayla plans to return to live and work in London but vows not to return to a corporate job to maintain her freedom. Ayla said: "I know I'm going to come back to London eventually, I know I want to be based here. "I want to be able to relax, travel and have that flexibility so am planning on getting a job in hospitality after. I want the flexibility to travel again."

Sitting on the Adriatic Coast, Durres in Albania is a little-known gem that is way cheaper than your average European getaway. Yet, the idyllic port city remains less crowded and more affordable than several European hotspots. Dubbed "the eternal city on the Adriatic Coast" by Albania's National Tourism Agency, Durres benefits from a Mediterranean climate and features a number of secluded bays with turquoise waters and golden sand. One of the most popular spots in the city is Durres Beach, which stretches over 6.5 miles, making it the largest in Albania. Littered along the promenade are numerous bars, cafes and restaurants to explore. Cosmo Restaurant, which sits at the west end of the beach, is rated the best in the city and serves seafood dishes such as freshly caught lobster. There are a number of hotels on the promenade too, many of which have direct beach access. Guests can also hire two sunbeds and an umbrella on the beach for between £4.33 and £21.63. If you don't fancy sitting on the beach, then head to Hawaii Beach Club on the pier and grab a cocktail to enjoy on one of the club's sunbeds looking out at the sea. Five stunning, little-known holiday destinations Across the bars and restaurants in Durres, a beer is likely to set you back £2.05 to about £2.40, and a glass of wine will cost around just £1.73 to £3.03. For something more active, there are a number of watersports activities you can do from the beach as well, such as jet skiing and 'flying fish'. But it isn't just all about the beach in Durres, as it is Albania's second largest city meaning it has a wealth of different historic and cultural spots to explore. One spot is the ruins of Durres Castle, which was originally built in the 5th century, and the Venetian Tower which was built in the 15th century and was used to defend the city from attack. If you head to the top of the nine-metre tower, you will get to see stunning views of the city and the sea. Durres Mosque, which sits in the centre of the city, is also free to visit. 5 There are many historic sites in the city as well, some of which are free to enter Credit: Getty It opened originally in 1938 but since has seen a myriad of different uses including, at one point, being a youth centre. Today, it is a religious centre and an active place of worship - so make sure to be dress appropriately and remove your shoes if visiting. Another key spot to explore is the Roman amphitheatre of Emperor Hadrian, which has around 15,000 seats and is the second largest amphitheatre in the whole of the Balkans. The amphitheatre was built in the early second century and was used to host social gatherings and gladiator contests with wild animals. However, in the fourth century gladiator fights were banned and a Christian chapel was built in the centre of the amphitheatre. It was later discovered in the 1960s after being buried for hundreds of years due to a number of earthquakes. It costs around £2.60 to enter the amphitheatre. 5 Hotels are affordable too, with some seven-night last minute breaks available for less than £138 per night for two people Credit: Getty Just outside of the city centre is the Abaia Winery and Vineyard, where visitors can go on a tour and see the site's five different wines being made. The experience is the top rated thing to do in Durres, with many guests enjoying the cellar visit and restaurant that serves local food to go with the wines. The cost of a guided tour varies depending on the season and length of the tour, but prices start from £17 per person. There are numerous hotels across the city, most of which are super affordable. For example, you could stay at the Hotel Epidamn Boutique & Spa, which has a restaurant, bar and garden, for £69 a night for two adults. Or, according to Love Holidays, you could grab a last minute seven-night package for two people, for around £138 per person, per night this summer. Durres is conveniently located just 40 minutes from Tirana, the capital of Albania. You can catch a direct flight from the UK to Tirana from a number of airports, including London Luton with Wizz Air for as little as £15 one-way and from London Stansted, with Ryanair from £15 one-way. What is it like to visit Albania? LOCALS have shared the best spots to visit in the country and their top tips... Pristine beaches and secluded bays: Albania offers a mix of sandy and pebble beaches. The Albanian Riviera in the south is home to beautiful spots like Ksamil Beach, which locals describe as a "tropical beach in Europe," and the more off-grid Gjipe, perfect for camping. Secluded, boat-accessible gems like Krorëz Bay and Dafina Bay provide a tranquil escape from crowds. Diverse dining options: From budget-friendly street food to high-end restaurants, Albania's food scene has something for everyone. For an authentic and cheap meal, look for a "Zgara" (grill) spot or grab a byrek (filo pastry) for as little as 40p. For a more formal experience, check out Tirana's Arka Rooftop or the farm-to-table restaurant Mullixhiu, with main dishes for under £7. Hidden natural gems: Beyond the popular tourist spots, Albania is full of natural wonders. Glasgow and Hamilton Primark stores renamed ‘Preemark'

The unusual move, which includes signs and window displays in all 21 of its Scottish stores, is to mark 50 years of the retailer on the Scottish high street. The 'Preemark' signs will remain in place until Sunday, August 24. The takeovers are now on display in the Hamilton and Argyle Street stores. The celebrations are a 'wee nod' to the common Scottish pronunciation of the brand name as "Pr-EE-mark." "It's a proud moment for all our stores to be celebrating our milestone together with a fun 'Preemark' nod, which is simply what we know our Scottish shoppers and colleagues are calling us every day anyway." Primark, which started its Scottish journey in Hamilton in 1975, now boasts 21 stores across the country, employing more than 2,637 workers. It has invested more than £20 million in these stores over the past three years and plans to invest a further £9 million in its Scottish stores in the next two years. Kari Rodgers, UK retail director at Primark, said: "The high streets and fashions have changed a lot over five decades in Scotland, and Primark has been there every step of the way. "As we've evolved to meet this change in demand, our commitment to offering people great quality clothing at affordable prices is stronger than ever. "There is such pride in our stores in Scotland and our customers feel it too, so it's fantastic to be celebrating such an important milestone together."
