Telangana Guv participates in West Bengal state Foundation day celebrations held in Raj Bhavan
The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of West Bengal, with active participation from Bengali associations based in Hyderabad.
The celebration featured traditional classical and folk dance performances by Bengali artists, bringing vibrancy and grandeur to the occasion.
In his address on the occasion, the Governor paid homage to the illustrious legacy of West Bengal, lauding its immense contributions to the nation's cultural, intellectual, and spiritual landscape.
He underscored the strong historical and cultural ties between Bengal and Telangana, and emphasised the importance of such celebrations in promoting national unity through the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
Reflecting on Bengal's enduring impact on India's journey, the Governor said that the state has produced towering figures in literature, philosophy, social reform, and the freedom movement.
He recalled that the national song "Vande Mataram", which inspired millions during the freedom
struggle, and the national anthem "Jana Gana Mana"—composed by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore—both originated from Bengal. Quoting a famous remark, he said, 'What Bengal thinks today, the nation thinks tomorrow.'
Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Telangana, Justice Sujoy Paul, in his address, paid tribute to the legacy of Justice Ashutosh Mukherjee, an eminent jurist and former Vice Chancellor.
He also noted that the first Indian judge of the High Court was a Bengali, underlining Bengal's historic contributions to India's judicial and academic spheres.
Justice Ms Moushumi Bhattacharjee, Judge, High Court of Telangana; Sabyasachi Ghosh, Special Chief Secretary to Government; and M. Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary to the Governor, also spoke on the occasion.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from several Bengali dignitaries, Raj Bhavan officers and staff, and members of the Bengali community residing in Hyderabad, making it a memorable and inclusive celebration. UNI KNR SSP

Kerala CM to inaugurate Economics, Statistics department surveys
South Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 17 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the new surveys of the Department of Economics and Statistics here on August 25. From 2025–26 onwards, Kerala will participate in the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) and the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE), both conducted nationwide by the National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Union Ministry of Statistics. The government expects that participation in these surveys will help design and implement new schemes for the benefit of the state's youth and job seekers. The PLFS provides vital statistics on the labour sector, human resources, and workforce, including indicators such as the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Worker Population Ratio (WPR), and the Unemployment Rate. The ASUSE collects data on various economic features of enterprises in the unorganised non-agricultural sector engaged in production, trade, and services (excluding manufacturing). It covers aspects such as economic activities, employment generation, capital investment, and the use of digital technology in unorganised enterprises. Until now, NSO survey data were available only at the state level. With Kerala's participation, district-level statistics will also become accessible. This is expected to provide more accurate data for project planning, enable a better assessment of changing labour markets, and support the preparation of estimates for calculating district-level income. Putin briefs Kremlin on Trump meeting, terms it highly useful
Moscow, Aug 16 (UNI) Briefing the Kremlin on the results of his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska, Russian President Vladmir Putin made several statements, terming the visit 'highly useful', with the talks in Anchorage bringing each side closer to a solution. According to RIA Novosti, the Russian leader praised the negotiations, stating "We haven't had direct negotiations of this kind at this level for a long time. I repeat once again, there was an opportunity to calmly and in detail once again set out our position." Even though no defining agreement was reached between Moscow and Washington in Anchorage, Putin called the discussions frank and said that ending the war requires the elimination of its root causes. "We, of course, respect the position of the American administration, which sees the need for a speedy end to military actions. Well, we would also like this and would like to move to resolving all issues by peaceful means." On Friday, the two leaders met in Alaska's Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage for a three-on-three format discussion that lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes. Apart from the two heads of state, the delegations from both sides included key members of both nation's administrations. The Russian side was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and presidential aide Yury Ushakov, while the United States was represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Both Putin and Trump declared their readiness to work on ending the conflict in Ukraine. According to Trump, there is no agreement on important points of the settlement yet, but there is a good chance of reaching an agreement. Agreeing for the need of a full-on comprehensive peace agreement as opposed to his earlier demands for a ceasefire, Trump is slated to meet his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday to make a deal with Russia, putting the onus of arriving at a peace agreement on him and Europe.

3 Assamese men assaulted for entering Nagaland ‘without permit'
Amid tensions on Assam-Nagaland border following large-scale eviction drives in Assam's Golaghat district, three men from Assam who had entered Nagaland for a picnic on August 15 were assaulted by three Nagaland locals who sought to check their permits and identities. According to a police officer from Golaghat, nine men from Merapani – which is part of the Disturbed Area Belt, land disputed between Assam and Nagaland – had gone for a picnic on Friday to a spot located around 1.5 km within the adjacent Wokha district in Nagaland. 'Since the area is only about 2-3 km from each of their homes, they must not have thought much about it. But when they were packing up to leave around 5.30 pm, three Naga locals who were carrying airguns confronted them. They asked to see Inner Line Permits and Aadhaar cards of the group. On not finding the papers with them, they (Naga locals) hit two of the group members with the butt of their airguns and fired in the air. A pellet from the airgun hit one of the (Assamese) men, Prakash Basumatary,' said the police officer. He said the matter was informed to the Nagaland police, after which the three accused were apprehended by Wokha police around 11 pm. 'After the evictions, people in Nagaland have been particular about checking identification and permits of people entering from Assam,' said the officer. In the past month, the Assam government conducted a massive eviction drive in the Rengma Reserve Forest in Uriamghat in Golaghat district, a region which borders Nagaland. Over 2500 families, mostly Bengali-origin Muslims, living in the area were affected. Ahead of this eviction drive, the Nagaland government directed 'heightened vigilance' along the state border with Assam amid 'apprehensions' that the displaced people may try to enter Nagaland. Following this, police, district administrations and civil society organisations swung into action to conduct checks on movement near entry points from Assam.
