75-year-old woman strangled to death by her grandson in Odisha's Kaniha forest
ANGUL: Kaniha police arrested a 25-year-old youth of Santribida village for allegedly killing his grandmother on Wednesday.
Police said the accused, Bapuji Biswal of Santribida strangulated his 75-year-old grandmother, Gurubari Biswal to death inside a forest near their village.
IIC of Kaniha police station R R Dalei, said Bapuji was jailed for his involvement in the murder of a minor in 2022. After being released from prison recently, he was living with his parents and grandmother.
On the day, Gurubari went to the local Jan Seva Kendra to update her Aadhaar card. Bapuji arrived there on a motorcycle and offered to take her home. However, instead of taking his grandmother home, the accused headed to the village forest. After reaching there, he strangulated Gurubari to death with his hands and absconded, said Dalei.
When the elderly woman did not reach home, family members along with some villagers launched a search and found her body in the nearby forest. On being informed, police reached the spot for investigation. The body was seized for postmortem.
The IIC said police suspected the role of Bapuji in the crime as he was missing after the incident. The accused was nabbed after tracking his mobile phone. 'Police are yet to establish the motive behind the crime. The accused will be interrogated and we are hopeful of finding out the cause of the murder,' he said.
The accused will be produced in court on Thursday and further investigation is underway, the IIC added.

When 23-year-old Neelesh left her house in Delhi's Trilokpuri around 12.30 pm on May 28, she told her father that she was going to the bank about a kilometre away to get some details updated. She didn't return. Her father and three brothers looked for her in every possible place that they could to find her. In the meantime, police found the body of a woman stuffed in a suitcase in UP's Hapur near a canal on May 30. The body was decomposed. 'On May 30, we were alerted about a body stuffed inside a suitcase in the Sikhera area that comes under the Pilkhuwa police station. We first sent the body for a post-mortem, and an FIR was registered for murder and disappearance of evidence,' said an officer of the Hapur Police. By then, through a missing person's complaint filed in Delhi, police established the woman's identity — it was Neelesh. According to the post-mortem report, Neelesh was strangled to death, said Patniash Kumar, SHO, Pilkhuwa police station. 'There were no signs of any assault on her body,' he said. On June 6, Neelesh's friend was arrested for allegedly killing her. The accused, Satendra Yadav (29), a resident of Delhi's Vinod Nagar, worked with a real estate firm. Police claimed they recovered the woman's bank passbook, Aadhaar card, two mobile phones, and a car from his possession. Youngest among four siblings, Neelesh lived with her father in a rented one-room house in Trilokpuri, after her mother's death nine years ago. All her brothers were married and lived in separate houses. Pointing towards a black and white sketch of Neelesh and her father hanging on the green wall of her room, next to her parents' picture, a family member recalled on Saturday, 'The day she went missing, we got a call from her father. She had told him that she would return by 1 pm… but she hadn't.' 'We rushed to Trilokpuri and first alerted the Mayur Vihar Phase 1 police station. We also went to check CCTV footage at the bank, but there was no sign of her. All we did then was pray.' The family was preparing for Neelesh's wedding. 'We were excited about the preparations. On April 30, she was engaged to a man in UP's Etah district. After her wedding, she wanted to have a beauty parlour of her own,' the relative added. However, a call from Hapur Police on June 4 tragically ended the family's wait. The family was called to identify the body. 'Her yellow suit and a Tulsi beads necklace helped us identify her,' another relative said. Yadav got acquainted with Neelesh when they lived in the same locality, police said. During questioning, Yadav allegedly told police that he had been in a relationship with Neelesh for over three years. 'Neelesh had loaned Yadav Rs 5.25 lakh. She wanted the money back on May 28 when she met Yadav,' an officer said. According to the police statement, Yadav claimed he lost his temper when she asked for the money and allegedly strangled her using her scarf. 'He then stuffed her body into a suitcase, which he had in his room. Later that night, he drove to the Sikhera canal, a route he frequently used to avoid toll taxes, and dumped the suitcase. He bought the car with the money given by her,' a police officer said. 'Her father, Abhibharan Singh, is a retired Nagar Nigam employee. Neelesh had allegedly given his savings to Yadav. On the day she was killed, he had asked her to give Rs 1 lakh for an emergency,' said the SHO. Police traced Yadav after his car's number plate was captured in CCTV footage. Renting Aadhaar logins, manipulating data: How hackers ‘helped' job aspirants cheat
The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister has directed the strictest possible action following revelations of a sophisticated cyber fraud that exploited the Aadhaar update system during the Police Constable Recruitment Exam-2023. In a statement, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said: 'Such criminal acts, which cause injustice to deserving candidates, will not be tolerated in Madhya Pradesh. Taking suo motu cognizance, the Police Headquarters is conducting a thorough examination of biometric data and Aadhaar history of all successful candidates. In cases where impersonation is found at first glance, criminal cases have been registered against the candidates and strict action is being ensured.' The directive comes as investigators have allegedly uncovered an interstate network spanning multiple states that manipulated biometric data to help unqualified candidates fraudulently pass the recruitment examination. According to sources, the investigation has allegedly revealed that the organised gang rented login IDs of several Aadhaar centre agents. They also indicate the gang cloned agents' retina and biometric data that served as passwords for these IDs, with one agent having his ID rented for Rs 3,000 per month. Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Anshuman Singh said that during investigation, it was also found that some Aadhaar card vendors uploaded requests for biometric changes to the Aadhaar system without proper verification. 'The accused candidates exploited this lapse to commit the crime,' he said. The sophisticated operation allegedly utilised remote access applications to control candidates' systems from Delhi while updating their Aadhaar with the gang's own biometric data. After examinations concluded, the IDs were changed back to their original state, allowing imposters known as 'solvers' to be sent to exam centres with altered identities. The gang updated biometric data in candidates' Aadhaar cards before the exam and altered it again afterward. Police said the irregularities were first detected in November 2024 when documents of five candidates in Morena raised suspicions during the Physical Proficiency Test. This discovery prompted the police headquarters to issue directives on April 21, 2025, requiring re-verification of biometric and Aadhaar history for all selected candidates during character verification and appointment phases. The probe has led to the registration of 21 cases against 22 candidates across multiple districts, with seven cases in Morena, six in Shivpuri, two in Sheopur, and one each in Indore, Datia, Gwalior, Alirajpur, Rajgarh, and Shahdol.

Love, Money, Suspicion: 29-Year-Old Murders Woman, Dumps Body In UP
New Delhi: A man allegedly murdered a woman he was in a relationship with at his flat in east Delhi. He then packed her body in a suitcase, drove around Delhi and Uttar Pradesh before dumping it in Hapur district in the neighbouring state. Neelesh, 23, who lived in Trilokpuri in east Delhi was reported missing on May 28 after she left home around 12.30pm, stating she was going to the bank. Her father, Ahivaran Singh, filed a missing person report at Mayur Vihar police station at 6pm that evening. Her phone was last active at 2pm, after which it was switched off. On May 30, a decomposed body was found stuffed in a suitcase in the Pilkhuwa area of Hapur. A murder case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita with the additional charge of causing evidence to disappear. After being informed by UP Police of the body, Delhi Police personnel accompanied Singh and his son to Pilkhuwa, where they identified the body. The investigating team arrested Satendra Yadav, 29, a native of Chitrakoot and currently residing in West Vinod Nagar, east Delhi. He was arrested on June 5 near the Sikheda canal bridge in Hapur, close to where the suitcase had been dumped. Yadav was employed at a construction firm in Gurgaon. Police recovered several items from his possession, including Neelesh's bank passbook, cheques, KYC documents, her Aadhaar and PAN cards and the black TUV car used in the crime. When interrogated, Yadav confessed to killing the woman, claiming that he and Neelesh were in a relationship since her hospitalisation for kidney treatment in Delhi. In Oct last year, he moved to Patiala for a restaurant construction project and lived there for five months. He later became suspicious of Neelesh, suspecting she was involved romantically with someone else. "Every time I called her, the phone line was busy," he alleged to the cops. "I loved her and supported her during her illness, but she kept taking advantage of me. I also tried to check her phone, but either it was locked or she didn't allow me to go through it." On May 28, Neelesh visited Yadav at his home. He had borrowed Rs 5.3 lakh from her, part of which he used to purchase the TUV. When she asked for Rs 2 lakh to be repaid, an argument escalated. In a fit of rage, he strangled her with a scarf. He stored her body in a blue suitcase, waited for night, turned off his phone and drove to Sikheda, where he dumped the suitcase near the canal. On the way, he destroyed her phone near Ghazipur. Police are investigating whether the money Neelesh gave to Yadav was meant for their wedding. The cops also recovered CCTV footage in which the suspect can be seen walking with a suitcase in hand.
