Delhi Chief Minister On Air Quality Dipping To 74 For The First Time In A Decade
New Delhi: Citing the latest Air Quality Index of 74, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to reduce the city's pollution, and claimed that for the first time in a decade, the index has come down to such a satisfactory level. Inaugurating a "Jan Seva Kendra" in the Greater Kailash Assembly constituency, the Chief Minister said, "Apart from cleaning the air, we are also committed to cleaning the Yamuna and ending the mountains of garbage." She said her government, after taking note of the public concerns over the proposed ban on end-of-life (EOL) vehicles, approached the court and got a stay on the ban till November 1. "Going forward, bringing the public's voice to every platform, addressing their needs and demands, is our responsibility. As this is not the same government that only made hollow promises. Today's government is genuinely working to reduce Delhi's pollution," she said. CM Gupta said she aspires to make the city so beautiful and habitable that people are not forced to shift out of here. Calling her government's decision to allow commercial establishments to operate 24x7 historic, the CM said, "The licensing process is also going to be simplified and replaced with a single-window system." The CM slammed the earlier AAP government and legislators, saying, "Earlier, MLAs remained confined to their offices and homes. But each MLA of the BJP is now working tirelessly for the public." At an earlier event, she said the government is aiming to ensure that the bed per 1,000 patient ratio should improve to 5 from the current level of around 2.7. CM Gupta also announced her government's plans to introduce a PPP model for purchasing medical equipment in hospitals and complete the development of the 24 hospitals whose construction was suspended midway by the previous government. Later, taking to the social media platform X, the CM said, "Today, the Jan Seva Kendra was inaugurated in the Greater Kailash Assembly constituency and dedicated to public service." "This centre will serve as an effective medium for resolving the problems of the common people, providing information about the schemes of the Central and State Governments, and delivering prompt assistance to those in need, in line with the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to service and good governance," she wrote. "The BJP's double-engine government is committed to ensuring that development, service, and rights reach the last person in line in a time-bound manner," she wrote.

Scammers dupe Jan Seva Kendra owners of Rs 3.38L
Koraput: In a new cyber fraud method, scamsters posing as customers targeted Jan Seva Kendra (JSK) operators across Koraput district, duping at least six of Rs 3.38 lakh over the past month. The victims approached the cyber police station in Koraput and met SP (Koraput) Rohit Verma on Thursday, seeking action against the fraudsters. According to reports, the fraudsters visited various kendras claiming urgent need of cash, often citing medical emergencies. They requested money transfers to the accounts of JSK operators and collected the equivalent amount in cash after showing successful transaction messages via QR codes. The fraud came to light only after the bank accounts of the JSK operators were frozen by the authorities. One of the victims, N Santosh from Sasahandi under Kotpad police station limits, said that on July 23, an unidentified person approached him seeking urgent cash for medical treatment and promised to transfer Rs 80,000 online. Forgery racket busted in Bareilly; two arrested
Bareilly police have busted an interstate gang creating fake government documents, including Aadhaar and PAN cards, domicile certificates, income and caste proofs, and even academic marksheets, authorities said on Friday. The forgery racket was being run under the guise of a Jan Seva Kendra (public service centre) in the Bhojipura area, they added. Acting on a tip-off, police raided Azhari Jan Seva Kendra and Aadhaar Card Center on Friday and uncovered a sophisticated setup used for creating forged documents. Two prime accused, identified as Mohammad Faheem alias Guddu and Ziaul Mustafa, were arrested from the centre. Both had been running the illegal operation for nearly a year, earning lakhs of rupees through fake documentation, authorities said. Confirming the arrests, superintendent of police (north) Mukesh Chandra Mishra said investigations are ongoing to identify potential clients and other members of the racket. 'We are tracing the source and destination of these forged documents. The racket may have wider links across states,' Mishra said. According to police, the accused were operating from the Pachdaura Dohariya area within Bhojipura police station limits. Faheem, who had prior experience with Aadhaar enrolment while working for Baroda U.P. Gramin Bank, used his technical knowledge to set up the forgery racket. He was joined by Mustafa, who had been preparing for NEET after passing Class 12. The accused reportedly began their fraudulent activities after Faheem was removed from his Aadhaar operator role due to a complaint lodged with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The complaint stated that he was illegally charging ₹100 per Aadhaar card, violating the standard charges of ₹18 for new enrolments and ₹13 for updates. After being dismissed, he opened the Jan Seva Kendra and brought Mustafa, a Class 10 pass, on board to expand their operations, police explained. During the raid, police recovered a huge cache of forged documents and hi-tech equipment. The seized items included a laptop, a PVC card machine, a monitor, a CPU, two printers/scanners, a DSLR camera, a webcam, a camera stand, a large fingerprint scanner, two small thumb scanners, two camera control units, and three mobile phones, officials said. Among the documents recovered were 20 fake birth certificates, 15 forged domicile certificates, five fake income certificates, 15 forged stamp papers, a fake Bihar Board Class 10 marksheet, a fake UP Board Class 10 marksheet, 20 fake Aadhaar cards, two PAN cards, 44 black plastic Aadhaar cards, and a fake voter ID card. Despite their modest educational backgrounds, both Faheem and Mustafa managed to set up a technically advanced facility capable of producing forged documents that could deceive even trained officials, police said adding authorities were scanning the seized digital devices to collect data and trace possible links to similar operations elsewhere.

75-year-old woman strangled to death by her grandson in Odisha's Kaniha forest
ANGUL: Kaniha police arrested a 25-year-old youth of Santribida village for allegedly killing his grandmother on Wednesday. Police said the accused, Bapuji Biswal of Santribida strangulated his 75-year-old grandmother, Gurubari Biswal to death inside a forest near their village. IIC of Kaniha police station R R Dalei, said Bapuji was jailed for his involvement in the murder of a minor in 2022. After being released from prison recently, he was living with his parents and grandmother. On the day, Gurubari went to the local Jan Seva Kendra to update her Aadhaar card. Bapuji arrived there on a motorcycle and offered to take her home. However, instead of taking his grandmother home, the accused headed to the village forest. After reaching there, he strangulated Gurubari to death with his hands and absconded, said Dalei. When the elderly woman did not reach home, family members along with some villagers launched a search and found her body in the nearby forest. On being informed, police reached the spot for investigation. The body was seized for postmortem. The IIC said police suspected the role of Bapuji in the crime as he was missing after the incident. The accused was nabbed after tracking his mobile phone. 'Police are yet to establish the motive behind the crime. The accused will be interrogated and we are hopeful of finding out the cause of the murder,' he said. The accused will be produced in court on Thursday and further investigation is underway, the IIC added.

PM-JAY portal snags leave patients in a spot in Odisha
CUTTACK: The recent launch of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) in Odisha might have brought with itself the promise of an improved healthcare delivery system, but the complexities in its implementation on the ground has left patients and healthcare personnel in a sticky situation. In such a scenario, patients with life-threatening diseases, given the time-sensitive nature of their conditions, are more at risk as delay in treatment can pose severe consequences. In a recent instance, a 52-year-old brain stroke patient, who was in coma and required immediate surgery, was turned away by a city-based private hospital because he could not undergo the iris scanning. Unable to avail the scheme's benefits and the pricey ICU charges left his family with no other option than to leave the hospital. He was, however, lucky as the next hospital he got admitted to, carried out his iris scanning during the CT scanning procedure, and his surgery was conducted smoothly. In another case, family members of a 42-year-old man suffering from strangulated hernia had to pay cash to conduct his surgery as there appeared a glitch while uploading his ration card on the portal. Though they visited the Jan Seva Kendra for help and also dialled the helpline number 104, nothing could solve their problem. Since there is possibility of gangrene if strangulated hernia is not operated within 48 hours, the family members had no other option than to pay cash for surgery. The protocol used in the earlier Bjiu Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) was very simple. Any member of the family could enrol the patient under the scheme just by using his Aadhaar card. But, in AB PM-JAY, self-identification through iris scanner is necessary which is often difficult in some cases, especially when a patient is in coma stage, said a doctor who runs a private hospital.
