CM should release white paper on funds received for Union government schemes, says C.P. Radhakrishnan
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin should release a white paper on funds received for Union government schemes, said Maharashtra Governor and former BJP leader C.P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday.
Mr. Radhakrishnan, who participated in the State conference of Sahakar Bhati Tamil Nadu at Maravaneri in Salem, told journalists there should be no partiality in welfare schemes, whether they are State or Union Government schemes, and people should benefit from these schemes. If Mr. Stalin felt Union government funds were not adequate for Union government schemes, he should release a white paper report and point out how these schemes benefited the people, and then say how Tamil Nadu is affected without adequate funds. It will pave the way for getting funds from the Union Government easily, Mr. Radhakrishnan added.
Responding to a question on the stalemate over appointing vice-chancellors of state universities in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Radhakrishnan said, 'In my opinion, appointing vice-chancellors should be under the power of Governors . The government in Tamil Nadu uses the word 'Union Government' instead of 'Central Government,' which is a primary issue in the conflict between the Governor and the Tamil Nadu government. These terms were not used when M. Karunanidhi was Chief Minister. If the Central Government is the Union Government, then the State Government will be the Panchayat Government.'
Stating that cooperative societies should be a people's movement, the former BJP leader felt cooperative societies in Tamil Nadu were successful earlier. But now many societies sustain losses allegedly due to corruption. Instead of politicians coming to the post in societies, farmers and weavers should take it over, Mr. Radhakrishnan added.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu seeks funds for tobacco farmers
Vijayawada: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has requested Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal to allocate ₹150 crore from the tobacco board to the state govt to manage the ongoing burley tobacco purchases. He said that the state govt is purchasing about 20 million kg of burley tobacco by spending nearly ₹300 crore as traders did not pick up the stocks leaving the growers into deep trouble. Union minister Goyal visited chief minister Chandrababu Naidu's residence in Undavalli on Sunday and held discussions on various issues. The chief minister explained that the state govt set up tobacco purchase centres at seven locations in Bapatla, Guntur, Palnadu, and Prakasam districts to avoid further delay causing distress among the farming community. "The state govt deployed state marketing agency-markfed to purchase burley tobacco from growers and it was expected to cost around Rs 300 crore. The state's burden would greatly come down if the Centre grants at least Rs 150 crore from the surplus revenues of the tobacco board," said Naidu. He observed that bringing the cultivation of white and black burley tobacco too under the tobacco board jurisdiction would be help regulate the crop properly. Chief minister urged Goyal to reconsider reducing the import duty on oil palm to 10%. He explained that reducing import duty is causing palm oil farmers in the state to receive unfair prices and suffer significant losses. Chief minister highlighted that the decision to reduce import duty could hinder the goals of the National Mission on Edible Oils (NMEO) set by the centre. He suggested the union minister to hold discussions with the US regarding the duties imposed on aqua exports. "The 27% duty imposed by the US on seafood is impacting eight lakh aqua farmers in Andhra Pradesh. The Centre should exert pressure on USA to reduce the burden to relieve aqua farmers," said Naidu. He had also urged Goyal to reduce GST on mango pulp from 12% to 5%. He said that the state govt had already brought the issue to the attention of the Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Uttarakhand chopper crash: Amit Shah, Aviation Minister, speaks to CM Dhami, assures support from Centre
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 15 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Sunday reached out to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to enquire about the tragic helicopter crash in Rudraprayag in which seven people were killed. The incident, which occurred at around 5:30 am earlier today, claimed the lives of seven people on board, including five adults, one infant and one crew member. According to a statement from the Uttarakhand Chief Minister's Office, the Union Ministers had a telephone conversation with Dhami during which they assured the Centre of full cooperation following the crash. 'Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu also inquired about the Kedarnath heli accident from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone and assured all possible cooperation from the Centre,' the statement read. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Uttarakhand CM Dhami in the wake of the tragic helicopter crash. According to an official statement from the Uttarakhand Chief Minister's office, CM Dhami informed the Prime Minister that a high-level meeting was held immediately after the incident and instructions were given to probe the incident. 'Prime Minister prayed for the strength to bear this loss to the families of the deceased. He assured all possible cooperation from the central government. The helicopter took off from Guptkashi at 05:10 am and landed at Shri Kedarnath Ji Helipad at 05:18 am before departing again at 05:19 am for Guptkashi and is reported to have crashed near Gaurikund between 05:30 am and 05:45 am, the statement said. The ministry said that preliminary indications suggest that the probable cause of the crash may be Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT), with the helicopter reportedly airborne despite poor visibility and extensive clouding at the valley entry area. The exact cause will be determined through a detailed investigation by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). (ANI)

Ludhiana (Punjab) [India], June 15 (ANI): Days ahead of Ludhiana West bypolls, BJP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying 'those who cheated and looted Delhi are today looting Punjab.' CM Gupta was campaigning for the BJP candidate, Jiwan Gupta, for the Ludhiana West bye-election scheduled for June 19. AAP has fielded sitting Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora from the seat, which fell vacant after the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. The counting is on June 23. Gupta stated, 'Those who cheated and looted Delhi are today looting Punjab. We will not let this happen. The people of Delhi have sent me to Ludhiana. 'There was not a single Punjabi or Sikh minister in 10 years of your tenure in the Delhi government,' she said, and further alleged that AAP's Punjab government is controlled by non-locals like Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain. Meanwhile, AAP's Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj on Sunday asked Gupta to clarify if the BJP's new excise policy will privatise liquor shops or not? Bhardwaj, speaking to ANI, said, 'I have a direct question for her (CM Rekha Gupta). BJP objected to the Delhi Excise Policy and claimed that liquor shops had been privatised. Later, the policy was scrapped, and the shops became government-owned again. Rekha Gupta should clarify if she will privatise liquor shops under the new Excise Policy. This will reveal who is in collusion with the liquor mafia. She should answer this.' (ANI)
