CPI demands probe into Naxal killings
Warangal: CPI State secretary and Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao urged the Supreme Court to take suo-moto cognizance of the recent killings of the Maoists under Operation Kagar.
Addressing the cadre at the party Maha Sabha in Hasanparthy, Hanumakonda, on Tuesday, he said, 'The government is not handing over the bodies of Naxals to their relatives just because they were killed in fake encounters.'
The BJP-led Central government, which failed to capture the Pahalgam terrorists celebrating by killing Maoists, he said. 'Why didn't Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who accepted a ceasefire with the terrorists, consider peace talks when the Maoists urged the government during Operation Kagar?' Sambasiva Rao pointed out. Modi would face the fate of Hitler and Mussolini, who tried to wipe out Communists, he said
The letter written to KCR by his daughter and MLC K Kavitha indicates that the BRS is trying to ally with the BJP. He questioned KCR on the rationale behind his party joining hands with the BJP, which protects the interests of Adanis and Ambanis.
Rao urged the people to support the Communists, who alone stand for them. Communist Party of India would celebrate its centenary on a grand note in Khammam on December 26, 2025. At least 5 lakh people would attend it, he added.
CPI State assistant secretary Takkalapally Srinivas Rao emphasised the need for uniting Ambedkar supporters with the Communists to oppose the government's anti-people policies. He demanded that the State Government declare Warangal as the second capital of Telangana and develop it on par with Hyderabad.

BJP functionary held in criminal case in Chennai
Avadi City Police has arrested a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary from Padiyanallur on charges of cheating two consumer durable suppliers and also threatening them. Accused a history-sheeter Police identified the suspect as alias 'Milagaipodi' Venkatesan, 58, from Padiyanallur who is a functionary of BJP OBC Morcha. He had been arrested in 2015 by the Andhra Pradesh police under charges of smuggling red sandalwood to foreign countries. Venkatesan has 50-odd criminal cases pending against him including seven at the Redhills Police Station — including an attempt to murder case — and he has been arrested under the Goondas Act in 2011 as well. He was also registered as a history-sheeter, but in 2013, he moved a writ petition before the Madras High Court seeking a cancellation of the history sheet and got a favourable order. Venkatesan had also been a former member of the youth wing of the AIADMK and later he was removed from the AIADMK in 2015 after he was arrested in a smuggling case. Subsequently he joined the BJP. Police sources said Venkatesan recently came out on bail. Two consumer durable suppliers have approached him to get their money from another dealer who wilfully defaulted the payment. He received commission from them and however, he joined the dealer and threatened the duo. Based on their complaint, police arrested him on Friday and remanded him. Venkatesan recently posted a photo of him taken with Union Home Minister Amit Shah when the latter visited last week in Madurai on social media and tagged the posts with higher police officers to show that he was an influential person, said police sources.

Rebel Akali leader Sikandar Singh Maluka back in SAD, to campaign in Ludhiana West
In the run-up to the June 19 Ludhiana West assembly byelection, veteran Akali leader and former cabinet minister Sikandar Singh Maluka was re-inducted into the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Chandigarh on Saturday. Welcoming him back into the party fold a year after his unceremonious removal as head of the SAD disciplinary committee, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal described his return as 'a major boost for the party'. 'It gives me immense pleasure to welcome veteran Akali leader Sikandar Singh Maluka back to the Shiromani Akali Dal,' Sukhbir said, acknowledging his contributions to strengthening the party under the leadership of former chief minister and party patriarch late Parkash Singh Badal. 'I am happy to be back in my party,'said Maluka, who is set to campaign for the SAD to win over its traditional base in the high-stakes assembly byelection. In his post on X, Sukhbir urged Punjabis to unite in support of Punjab's 'only regional party' for peace and development in the state. Maluka, who rejoined the party in the presence of SAD secretary general Balwinder Singh Bhundar and former minister Daljit Singh Cheema, was once considered a close aide of the Badals and had been the SAD's Bathinda district president for 28 years. His daughter-in-law, Parampal Kaur Sidhu, a former IAS officer, had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election from Bathinda in June 2024 as the BJP candidate against the SAD's Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Maluka's son, Gurpreet Singh, is a former chairman of the Bathinda Zila Parishad. Maluka had claimed that he had tried to stop his son and daughter-in-law from joining the BJP, but in vain. However, back then he had also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which had not gone down well with the Akali Dal leadership. In April last year, he was removed from the post of SAD's Maur assembly constituency in-charge and was replaced by former minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon. On July 30 last year, Maluka was expelled for anti-party activities along with Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) ex-president Bibi Jagir Kaur, former SAD MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, former ministers Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Surjit Singh Rakhra and former MLAs Gurpartap Singh Wadala and Surinder Singh Thekedar .The action had come a day after the rebel leaders announced a 13-member presidium to strengthen the Shiromani Akali Dal Sudhar Lehar (Shiromani Akali Dal reform movement). The rebel leaders also had approached the Sikhs' highest temporal seat Akal Takht seeking a pardon for mistakes committed during two terms of the SAD-BJP government from 2007-17. The Sudhar Lehar was dissolved last December on the directions of then Akal Takht jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh.

'Significant damage': Iran breaches Iron Dome, strikes Israel's 'Pentagon' in Tel Aviv
Iran launched a powerful retaliatory strike late Friday night, targeting one of Israel's most heavily guarded military sites, the Kirya compound in Tel Aviv, following Israel's Operation Rising Lion, which targeted Iran's nuclear facility at Natanz. According to reports, Iran fired a barrage of missiles at the Tel Aviv-based military complex, striking deep into Israel's defence infrastructure. Israel's well-known Iron Dome air defence system failed to stop the targeted attack launched by the Khamenei-led Islamic Republic. The New York Times verified alarming social media footage showing a missile slamming into the area, causing what was described as "significant damage." "This is Israel's version of the Pentagon, the Kiryat, and the building on this compound was just hit," Fox News reported. "There is significant damage." The dramatic videos showed Israel's air defence systems firing interceptors into the night sky moments before a large explosion lit up central Tel Aviv. "The IDF cannot, and will not, allow Iran to attack our civilians," the military said in a post on X. Iran's targeting of the Kirya marks a major escalation in the ongoing conflict, as the site is one of the most sensitive and strategically important in the country, coordinating military planning, intelligence, and operational command.
