Vijayawada: The Rose Society of Andhra Pradesh has stepped forward to participate in the state government's 'P4' poverty eradication programme, adopting several 'Golden Families' to support their upliftment. The members of the society met with district collector Dr G Lakshmisha at his camp office here on Friday, expressing their commitment to social responsibility.
During the meeting, Collector Lakshmisha explained the significance of the P4 initiative, a key step towards achieving the vision of 'Swarnandhra' (Golden Andhra).
He stated that the programme aims at bringing new light into the lives of the poor, with the goal of achieving 'zero poverty' by 2029 through a transparent implementation process.
The collector highlighted that the P4 initiative is designed to empower the top 10 per cent of society to guide and uplift the bottom 20 per cent of families. He praised the idea that those who have been successful with the support of society should give back, acting as mentors for these families.
Lakshmisha revealed that 86,398 'Golden Families' have been identified in the district. So far, 4,279 mentors have come forward to adopt 33,505 families. He said that in addition to individual entrepreneurs, organisations such as the Red Cross, Rotary, and the Andhra Motor Merchants Association (AMMA) have also joined the effort.
He commended the Rose Society for responding to the government's call and encouraged more individuals and organisations to come forward voluntarily.
The delegation that met with the Collector included Dr Adusumilli Sitamahalakshmi (Advisory Chairperson), Surapaneni Usharani (President), Ghantasala Lakshmi (Secretary), and executive committee members A Ratnalakshmi, Kancherla Subha, and Atluri Sumabindu.

P4 launch on August 19 set to be National Benchmark: CM Chandrababu Naidu

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated that the P4 initiative, aimed at eradicating poverty in Andhra Pradesh, will achieve its Zero Poverty goal by 2029, with the first step already taken. He said AP's P4 model will become a benchmark for the nation. Conducting a video conference from the State Secretariat on Tuesday, Naidu reviewed the P4 program with MLAs, public representatives, and officials. The P4 model will be implemented across the state from August 19. Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, P4 Foundation Vice-Chairman C. Kutumba Rao, and officials from the Finance and Planning departments were present. The Chief Minister said, 'The P4 initiative is part of our mission to eradicate poverty. Our objective is to ensure a higher standard of living for every family in AP. The core intent is to give back to society. From these role models, even small support becomes big support for the poor. In that spirit, Pallakunta Hemalatha, a sanitation worker from the Avanigadda constituency, became a guiding light by voluntarily supporting an elderly woman'. What Bangaru Kutumbams need is emotional bonding & support: CM 'When there is a heart that responds, humanity rises to the occasion and steps forward to help. Those who contribute financially and through service are the real role models. What Bangaru Kutumbams need is emotional bonding and support.' Naidu said. He added, 'While the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Vedanta operate through CSR funds, our focus through P4 is to go beyond that, to directly uplift families. We are implementing the Zero Poverty Mission with people as our greatest asset.'

Farmers advised to explore horticulture

Vijayawada: NTR district collector G Lakshmisha has assured the farming community that the district administration stands firmly behind them in all aspects of agricultural development. He said the welfare of farmers remains the government's foremost priority and extends all kinds of support and assistance. Participating in the 'Polam Pilustondi' initiative organised at Guntupalli village in Ibrahimpatnam mandal on Tuesday, Dr Lakshmisha planted paddy in the field of farmer G Ravindranath Tagore. Dr Lakshmisha highlighted that every village faces unique challenges. To address these, the district administration is organising 'Polam Pilustondi' programmes every Tuesday and Wednesday to engage directly with farmers, understand their problems, and implement timely solutions. He outlined the support being provided under this initiative, which includes assistance with supply of seeds, fertilisers, CCRC cards, and crop loans. He said fertilisers are being distributed through a biometric-based online system, and he reassured farmers that there is no shortage of fertilisers in the district. Encouraging diversification of crops, Dr Lakshmisha advised farmers to explore horticulture along with paddy cultivation. Through the Employment Guarantee Scheme, farmers can establish fruit and flower gardens free of cost and potentially earn two to three times more income. He shared that the district has set a target of cultivating horticulture crops in 4,000 acres this year, with 3,800 acres already under cultivation. Crops like drumsticks can also be grown along bunds for additional income. District Agriculture Officer DMF Vijayakumari, AD Srinivasa Rao, Tech AO Vasudev Nayak, Mandal Agriculture Officer Y Rajani, PACS President Ramakrishna, progressive local farmers, and officials from various departments attended the programme.

Zero poverty possible with welfare, support: Naidu

Amaravati: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday expressed confidence that the Zero Poverty (P4) initiative taken up by the state government would achieve its goal by 2029, marking the first significant step towards poverty eradication. He stated that Andhra Pradesh's P4 programme was poised to become a national model. During a video conference with MLAs, people's representatives, and officials from the Secretariat, the Chief Minister reviewed the P4 programme. It was decided that the initiative would be officially implemented from August 19. The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Vijay Anand, Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav, P4 Foundation Vice Chairman Kutumb Rao, and other senior officials. The state government launched the P4 initiative on Ugadi, the Telugu New Year Day, on March 30. P4 stands for public-private-people partnership, wherein well-off individuals willing to contribute are called 'Margadarsies' (mentors), while the underprivileged beneficiaries are known as 'Bangaru Kutumbams (golden families). During the review on Tuesday, the Chief Minister highlighted that the P4 programme was aimed at improving the quality of life for 'Bangaaru Kutumbams'. "The primary objective is for people to give back to society," he said. He praised Pallekunta Hemalatha, a sanitation worker from Avanigadda, who became a 'Margadarshi' by helping an elderly woman. "If there is a responsive heart, people will come forward with humanity to help the poor," the Chief Minister stated. "Those who offer help, not just money, are also 'Margadarshis'. What these families need is emotional bonding and a helping hand. While organisations like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Vedanta work with CSR funds, P4 aims at going beyond that with the sole purpose of supporting families. We are implementing the Zero Poverty Mission with the people as our greatest asset." The Chief Minister clarified that the selection of Margadarshis is purely voluntary. "There should be no coercion or opposition. Those with zeal to help others, will join this initiative," he said, warning against attempts by some 'demonic" individuals to create negative public sentiment. "Some people have the financial resources but lack the heart to help, while others have the heart but lack the time. Identify such people and inform them about the P4 platform," he urged. The goal is to reduce economic inequalities, which are detrimental to society, he added. He added that today's beneficiaries could become tomorrow's mentors. "P4 provides additional support to 'Bangaaru Kutumbams' on top of government welfare schemes. Reach out to NRIs and industrialists abroad to inspire them," he suggested. So far, 937,913 'Bangaaru Kutumbams' have been identified, and 103,938 Margadarshis have registered. The needs of 1 million 'Bangaaru Kutumbams' across the state have been prioritised and analysed using an AI-based system. The findings reveal that 31 per cent require employment opportunities, 22 per cent need medical assistance, and 9 per cent seek support for small businesses, he explained. The initiative also includes a 'Fund a Need' feature. The programme's implementation will be reviewed every three months.
