The UAE will deploy artificial intelligence (AI) drones to sight the crescent moon that marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid Al Fitr 2025.
The innovative approach to moon sighting aims to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the centuries-old tradition that determines the start of the Islamic Holy Month. The Ramadan Crescent Moon Sighting Committee, operating under the UAE Council for Fatwa, has invited citizens and residents to observe the crescent moon on the evening of Saturday, March 19, 2025, (29 Ramadan 1446 AH)
If you happen to spot the moon, you are encouraged to report the sighting. There's an the official hotline to call, 027774647 or an online form. The drones are expected to provide more precise data and minimise errors in determining the start of Ramadan.
And while we are waiting on the drones to determine the exact date, the question on everyone's mind is will Eid be on March 30 or March 31?
For Eid, RTA have announced a change in Dubai Metro times and free parking.
Eid Al Fitr is also known as the 'Festival of Breaking of the Fast' and is one of two official holidays celebrated in Islam. It is celebrated by Muslims worldwide and marks the end of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, which is the foundation of the religion. The pillars are the framework by which Muslims everywhere live, and Ramadan is considered the holiest time in the Islamic calendar. It is a time for prayer, reflection, and religious devotion, to cleanse past sins and to focus on Allah through good deeds.

From script to structure: Diwani wins international spotlight

Al Muntada Al Islami opens doors of hope for inmates
Targeting rehabilitation and social reintegration This distinguished activity is part of an extensive programme focused on Islamic culture, targeting inmates in correctional and reform institutions. The goal is to rehabilitate them and integrate them back into society, based on the tolerant principles of Islamic Sharia that call for forgiveness, reform, and building hope. Programme titled "building hope – a journey to life" Al Muntada holds this programme under the title "Building hope – a journey to life," offering specialised lectures and scientific courses combining authenticity and modernity. It covers concepts of moderation, balance, the foundations of positive coexistence, and the importance of social responsibility. The programme also includes practical workshops aimed at developing inmates' life skills and enhancing their cultural and knowledge abilities, enabling them to start a new life after serving their sentences. Importance of collaboration with correctional institutions Mohammed Hassan Al Dhaher, Mufti at Dubai's Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department and imam and preacher, emphasised the significance of implementing this cultural programme through fruitful cooperation with correctional institutions. He stated the goal is to enable inmates to acquire useful knowledge and instil positive values in them to strengthen their ability to integrate positively into society after release. Sheikh Sultan directs to build 1,365 housing units in Sharjah's Mehathab area
His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered the construction of three residential complexes in the Mehathab Suburb. These will comprise a total of 1,365 homes; 362 in Residential Qutainah (1), 428 in Residential Qutainah (3) and 575 in Al Shanoof Residential Complex. This announcement was made by Engineer Salem Al Abdouli, Director of the Sharjah Housing Department, through the 'Direct Line' programme, which is broadcast in Sharjah. He said that the houses feature a blend of local, Islamic and modern architectural styles, and are equipped with a fire detection system to enhance quality of life. Each 3,300-square-foot residence has a guest room, a sitting room, a kitchen, and four bedrooms on the ground floor. The housing units will be delivered with full infrastructure services. Concurrently, the department has initiated the delivery of residential units within Al Qutainah Residential Complex 1, representing the inaugural project to be realised in the Mehathab Suburb. The infrastructure for the three complexes is currently being completed. On the other hand, Dr Sheikh Sultan responded to a caller named Abeer on the programme and instructed the Sharjah Police to address the issue of her brother Obeid, who is mentally ill and causing problems at home. Media personality Mohammed Al Suwaidi then informed the caller that there is a designated facility for cases like her brother's, which will be ready within a month.
