‘Congress office in Turkey' claim: After FIRs, Arnab's Republic TV admits error, Amit Malviya defiant
Indian Youth Congress worker Shridhar M.M. and a lawyer, Shrikant Swaroop B.N, filed separate police complaints against Malviya and Goswami in Bengaluru, in Congress-ruled Karnataka.
Republic TV ran a visual 15 May on its 'digital platform' in which it 'erroneously' depicted a building as the Congress party office in Turkiye. The clip was also shared on X by Malviya.
Bengaluru: Two individuals including an Indian Youth Congress worker have filed police complaints against BJP Information Technology department head Amit Malviya and journalist Arnab Goswami, accusing them of 'masterminding a criminally motivated campaign' to disseminate 'false information' that the Congress has an office in Türkiye.
While Shridhar's complaint, shared on X by the Karnataka unit of the Indian Youth Congress handle, only mentions Malviya, Swaroop's also names Goswami, editor-in-chief of Republic TV. Swaroop's complaint was shared on X by the Indian Youth Congress.

Shridhar said in his complaint that India is going through 'testing times' given the tensions with Pakistan, and in such a situation, Malviya 'posting such malicious content' can promote enmity towards the Congress and incite violence against its leader Rahul Gandhi.
'(It) is also prejudicial towards national integrity and peace & harmony in the society in such testing times,' he alleges.
He references social media posts by Malviya, including the one in which he states that Gandhi, 'is speaking the language of Pakistan and its benefactors'. The post also includes an AI image that juxtaposes Gandhi's face with Pakistan Army chief Gen Asim Munir.
It is not surprising that Rahul Gandhi is speaking the language of Pakistan and its benefactors. This came amid a downswing in India-Turkiye relations after New Delhi revealed that Pakistan used 300-400 Turkish drones to infiltrate Indian airspace during the military conflict between 7 and 10 May. Since then, Indians have in large numbers cancelled planned trips to Türkiye. Several Indian institutions, including Jawaharlal Nehru University, IIT-Bombay and Jamia Millia Islamia, have suspended MoUs with Turkish universities.
In his complaint, Swaroop accused Malviya and Goswami of 'masterminding a heinous and criminally motivated campaign' to disseminate 'patently false information', to 'deceive the Indian public, defame the Congress, manipulate nationalist sentiments, incite public unrest and undermine national security'.
'The actions of Mr. Malviya and Mr. Goswami represent an unprecedented attack on India's democratic foundations, public safety, and national security. Their calculated misuse of influence to spread falsehoods with criminal intent demands the harshest response,' according to the complaint.
Both complaints have been filed under 192 (provocation to incite riots) and 352 (intentionally insulting someone with intent to cause breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The communication and legal cell of the Congress party had warned Malviya and Goswami of legal recourse after the clip was shared online. While Republic TV issued a corrigendum on 20 May, Malviya remains defiant. 'The FIR is for this video. Imagine,' he posted on X, responding to the Indian Youth Congress sharing the complaint on its official handle.
The BJP leader then doubled down on his attacks against the Congress. First, he went after Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge for reportedly calling Operation Sindoor a 'chhutputt yuddh' (a small war) which, the BJP leader claimed, inflicted 'more harm to India's cause than the entire Pakistani establishment put together'.
In a subsequent post, he said, 'The Congress is free to file as many lawsuits —but that doesn't absolve it from answering a serious question: Why did it open an office in Turkey in 2019? And why was this done just days after Turkey openly backed Pakistan at the UN on the Kashmir issue?' he said in a post Wednesday afternoon.

Indian Navy, UK Carrier Strike Group conduct high-tempo drill in North Arabian Sea
After a month-long high-alert deployment during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Navy has conducted a high-tempo Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with the United Kingdom's Carrier Strike Group in the strategic North Arabian drill, held on June 9 and 10, featured Indian naval assets including the stealth frigate INS Tabar, a submarine, and the long-range maritime patrol aircraft P-8I. The UK's naval contingent included HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Richmond. advertisementThe exercise highlighted advanced operational coordination and interoperability between the two forces. With synchronised tactical manoeuvres and unified helicopter control operations, both navies demonstrated their readiness and high-end combat capabilities. The professional exchange of officers further cemented the bond between the Indian and Royal Navies, reinforcing ties beyond routine joint drills. This engagement comes on the heels of the Indian Navy's prominent role in Operation Sindoor, where it was forward-deployed in the North Arabian Sea. The exercise served as a testament to the operational strength and combat preparedness of Indian naval units, both surface and underwater. Indian submarines and warships were instrumental in executing complex maritime tasks during the operation, earning them recognition as some of the most capable units joint PASSEX carries strategic significance due to its location. BSP plans to increase its tally to 30, chalks out poll strategy
Nagpur: After BJP and Congress, it is the Bahujan Samaj Party ( BSP ) that is a major player in the Nagpur civic body polls, even emerging the third-largest party in the 2017 polls. With 10 seats under its belt, BSP is now gearing up to increase the tally to 30 and has chalked out a strategy for the same. BSP leader Prakash Gajbhiye said, "A huge population resides in slums and lower-income areas within Nagpur city, and those in power have neglected this completely. I can show you so many places in Nagpur where there is no proper sewage system, no proper roads, and the water supply is also not regular. People have realised that BJP or Congress will never solve these problems; hence they will turn to BSP for that." The party has also worked out their targeted seats in the NMC assembly constituencies, highlighting their preparedness. Gajbhiye said, "Our maximum seats will come from North Nagpur, for which our target is 15. The next highest will be from South-West, where we hope to bag around seven seats. Then in the West and South, our target is three each. And for Central, it is two seats. Now, this is the minimum target, but we are confident of getting much more. " He added that BJP's strategy of regularisation of land and building pucca homes, which can help connect with voters, won't work in the polls. Regarding Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), Gajbhiye said, "People now realise that VBA won't be able to have any impact on their lives. We have been representing Nagpurians' voices in the civic body for a long time, so we have a proven track record." Their ace up the sleeve is party chief Mayawati herself. "We are planning for two major rallies in Maharashtra. One will be in Mumbai and the other in Nagpur. If Behenji holds a rally, then the entire voting dynamic changes at one stroke," said Gajbhiye.

Setback for India: Jairam Ramesh after US general praises Pakistan's terror fight
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh questioned the Indian government on Wednesday over recent remarks by a top United States military official praising Pakistan's counter-terrorism efforts. Taking to X, Ramesh wrote, 'Recently, the head of the US Central Command called Pakistan a 'great partner in the counter-terrorism campaign'. What will our Prime Minister and his ovation say to this? Is this not a diplomatic setback for India?'advertisementHis statement followed US Central Command chief General Michael Kurilla's testimony before the House Armed Services Committee, where the outgoing commander described Pakistan as a 'phenomenal partner' in counter-terrorism comments came at a time when India had been actively campaigning to expose Pakistan's support for cross-border terrorism, particularly after the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam in April. During the hearing, General Kurilla urged Washington not to adopt a zero-sum approach in South Asia, stating that the US must maintain strategic relations with both India and Pakistan."We need to have a relationship with Pakistan and with India. I do not believe it is a binary switch that we can't have one with Pakistan if we have a relationship with India,' he said. 'We should look at the merits of the relationship for the positives that it has.'advertisementKurilla's remarks came even as India stepped up diplomatic efforts to hold Pakistan accountable for its alleged role in the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people on April 22. In response, India carried out precision air strikes on terror infrastructure across the border in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May military escalation ended on May 10 after the Directors General of Military Operations from both countries reached an officials, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, had reiterated that India would not accept any equivalence between victims of terrorism and the perpetrators.
