NEW ERA CAP DONATING $250 TO VETERANS FOR EVERY PAUL SKENES STRIKEOUT THIS SEASON
Reigning NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes signs on as New Era Cap ambassador, launching new veterans-focused charitable partnership
BUFFALO, N.Y., May 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- New Era Cap, LLC, the international sports and lifestyle brand and exclusive on-field headwear provider for Major League Baseball (MLB), has signed Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes as an ambassador for the 2025 MLB season. Through their new ambassador partnership, New Era and Skenes will launch a charitable initiative to support America's veterans. For every strikeout the Pirates phenom throws this season, New Era Cap will donate $250 to a veterans-focused charity of his choosing.
ESPN is currently projecting Skenes to throw 195 strikeouts during the 2025 regular season — which would lead to New Era Cap donating $48,750 to veterans organizations. In addition to the end-of-season charitable contribution, New Era will provide Skenes' four military guests at every home game with New Era Pirates caps.
"New Era Cap is joining Paul Skenes in standing up for veterans, donating $250 for every batter he sits down in 2025," said Tim Shanahan, Sr. Director, Licensed Products at New Era Cap. "Every strikeout delivers an impact — and with our new partnership, it will be even more meaningful this season. With 170 strikeouts in the 2024 season, and 53 already this year, we'll be rooting for Paul to continue his momentum on the mound and in service to our nation's veterans."
"I'm honored to join New Era Cap's legacy as an MLB ambassador – and I'm especially excited our partnership will make a difference for veterans," said Paul Skenes. "New Era shares my commitment to honoring veterans and serving military families. This work is very close to my heart, so I'll do my best to keep the strikeouts coming."
Paul Skenes has quickly established himself as one of the league's most electrifying young talents. In his rookie season last year, Skenes set an MLB record with more than seven strikeouts in nine of his first ten career outings, while breaking a nearly 100-year-old Pirates franchise record for strikeouts by a rookie. Skenes' dominant performance earned him National League Rookie of the Year honors, finished third in voting for the 2024 National League Cy Young Award, and recently has been selected to pitch for Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Dodgers Star Shohei Ohtani Reacts to Major Aaron Judge News
Dodgers Star Shohei Ohtani Reacts to Major Aaron Judge News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers fell to the New York Mets on Monday night, but it was another impressive game for two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, who hit his MLB-leading 23rd home run of the season. Additionally, the three-time league MVP tied the game for Los Angeles in the ninth inning with a sacrifice fly, his 39th RBI of the season. Advertisement June has started well for Ohtani, which follows a torrid May in which he slugged 15 home runs and posted an incredible 1.180 OPS. In response to this, MLB named Ohtani its National League Player of the Month for May, joining New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge who won the award in the American League. Judge and Ohtani are the reigning league MVPs, each winning the award unanimously in their respective leagues last season. The two superstars also faced off in the 2024 World Series that Los Angeles won in five games. Reacting to the news that he and Judge had been named Player of the Month, Ohtani made a post on his Instagram story: Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani posts on his / Instagram There is a lot of mutual respect between Ohtani and Judge. This was on display in a recent three-game series between the Yankees and Dodgers. He's one of the best players in the game for a reason." Both Ohtani and Judge could very well win MVP again this season. MLB Insider Calls Cubs Trade Fit for Recent 17-Win Ace, If He 'Becomes Available'
MLB Insider Calls Cubs Trade Fit for Recent 17-Win Ace, If He 'Becomes Available' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Cubs could use starting pitching help at the MLB trade deadline if they want to be considered serious World Series contenders in 2025. Advertisement And ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan highlighted a very intriguing trade fit on June 3, but there's a catch. This recent 17-win ace and Cy Young finalist finds himself on a team that was not originally expected to be a seller this season. Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen was identified as a trade fit for the Chicago Cubs if he becomes Reiner-Imagn Images After going 2-8 over their past 10 outings, the Arizona Diamondbacks have dropped to 28-31 on the year. If that trend continues, insiders around the league believe they could begin a sell-off that better positions them for 2026 and beyond. Passan is one of those insiders, identifying Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen as a potential Cubs target to watch for if he becomes available. Advertisement After detailing a trade idea for Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara on June 3, Passan added that "the calculus here could change if [Framber] Valdez or Gallen becomes available." "Among Shota Imanaga, Matthew Boyd and Jameson Taillon, the Cubs have a perfectly OK starting rotation to take into a playoff series," Passan noted within the article before warning: "Considering the lineups they could face in the NL playoffs -- the [Los Angeles] Dodgers, [Philadelphia] Phillies, [New York] Mets and Diamondbacks, among others -- OK might not be enough." Gallen is off to a rough start in 2025, similar to Alcántara, with a 5.54 ERA over 12 starts and 66.2 innings pitched. But this is still a 29-year-old recent ace with dominant stuff that we're talking about here, and the Cubs would benefit from either of the two high-end starters joining their staff. Advertisement Having said that, Gallen's potential availability via trade all depends on Arizona's status as a buyer or seller. This massive Diamondbacks decision could hinge on fellow starter Corbin Burnes' upcoming prognosis following an elbow injury.
