Couple finds shocking note with an eerie warning hidden in their new home
A couple found a shocking note with an eerie warning hidden in their new home... and it sparked a fierce investigation on the web into uncovering its true meaning.
Anita Rainier explained to Newsweek earlier this week that she and her husband moved into their new abode just outside of Seattle, Washington, back in December.
Recently, they began doing some planned renovations, when they accidentally unearthed a secret message that left them shaken up.
They were preparing to redo the cabinets in the kitchen when Anita was examining them and found a small piece of paper tucked into the corner.
'It was this really well-hidden bit of paper tightly tucked into the top of the cabinet, totally out of sight unless you got all the way down like I was looking up,' she explained to the publication.
And what it said was certainly shocking.
'Don't look under the floor,' the chilling message read, while the back contained a series of 'random numbers.'
'It was both hilarious and kind of exciting to think there might be some hidden mystery here,' she said.
Anita said she and her husband wondered if the note and the numbers were part of some 'scavenger hunt' that the old owner had left for them to solve.
They became determined to decode the message, and started by Googling the numbers - 29065300489382 - hoping to find some answers, but nothing came up.
They tried everything to figure out what the numbers could be related to, but eventually hit a dead end and decided to turn to the internet for help.
'We divided it by our unit number, ZIP code, year the building was built, etc., to see if we could get a whole number or phone number or something,' she continued. 'No luck.'
They shared their finding to Reddit, under the subreddit Weird, and it quickly went viral, raking in more than 1,600 comments filled with theories.
'We were hoping someone would be able to do some detective work and identify the number or know how to decode it,' Anita added.
'It feels weird to have been sleeping in a place with a little hidden secret for five months.'
'2906530 is a bolt action slug shotgun. 2005-(048938) is the library of congress identifier for a Private Investigator handbook The Private Investigator Handbook: The Do-It-Yourself Guide to Protect Yourself, Get Justice, or Get Even,' one person replied to the viral Reddit post. 'That's all I got lol, I'm grasping at straws.'

'That looks like a library card number,' a second penned.
Another agreed, 'That's a library card number. Probably the name of a book.'
'Dammit now I'm invested in another random a** Reddit post,' joked someone else.
'You are not alone. Let's get a Gofundme going for OP to tear up the floorboards,' added a different user.
'I sold a home in 2023 and I left cryptic notes all over that place. It's a good laugh for me and the new owners will be left wondering,' wrote a fifth person.
A sixth comment read, 'Imagine you tear up the floor board and find another note that just says, "Made ya look."'
'Flooring company takes marketing to a whole new level,' someone else said.
In the end, Anita told Newsweek that 'odds are,' they're going to 'take a look under the floor' if they don't get any definite answers soon.

Heartbreaking end in search for missing woman who disappeared in a state forest
A young woman who went missing for two days in a state forest has been found dead. Esmé Caverly, 25, was last seen at Minyon Falls Lookout in the Whian Whian State Conservation Area, in northern NSW, on May 21. She had frequently visited the park before she went missing. The Police Rescue Squad, State Emergency Services and the National Parks and Wildlife Services joined forces to search for her before finding her body on May 23. NSW Police said a report would be prepared for the Coroner and there were 'no suspicious circumstances' surrounding her death. One of Ms Caverly's best friends Eliza Hall set up a GoFundMe to help her family cover the funeral costs. 'Her absence is unfathomable and many hearts are hurting,' Ms Hall said. 'Her innate ability to connect with and comfort others was astounding. 'She was vibrant, creative and witty. A young woman who moved through life with both strength and softness. She was a force of nature.' Ms Hall said Ms Caverly's mother Rowena wished to lay her daughter to rest in Byron Bay, where she was born and raised. 'Byron Bay Cemetery will provide a permanent and accessible location for Esmé's loved ones to visit, to continue to be close to her,' she said. 'Esmé was kind, gentle, inclusive and compassionate. 'The cost of a burying a loved one is significant, especially for a pensioner. Your donation, no matter the amount, will go directly towards the multiple costs.' So far the fundraiser has exceeded its $15,000 goal with more than $22,600 raised.

Walmart self-checkout error leaves customer calling cops after he's charged enormous sum for avocado
A shopper called 911 on Walmart over a self-checkout glitch — then claimed the store had 'robbed' him. An employee recalled the incident on Reddit, saying it began with pricing errors on a self-checkout register. 'This guy came up with a bunch of stuff,' the worker wrote in a post. 'He said one item said it was $9.99 on the shelf but was coming up $19.99. We got teamlead to check it out [and] got it fixed for him.' 'Same thing with another Item. That one we couldn't change.' Things really unraveled when the customer made a mistake ringing up avocados. 'I guess he accidentally hit 999 avocados instead of the nine he intended [and] his total jumped up to over $1300,' the employee said. The Reddit user claimed the customer told him to 'get the f***' away from him and dialled 911. However, the customer was in for a surprise after deciding to take on one of America's largest retailers. 'This dude creates a whole circus then shows everyone the self checkout screen. We fix it but he still won't shut up,' the employee claimed. By then, asset protection employees were involved and warned the infuriated shopper they would call him a trespasser if he didn't calm down. He refused to back down, and after demanding Walmart compensate him for 'pain and suffering and distress,' he was kicked out of the store. 'They do end up trespassing him, and since he won't leave, his own cops he called put him in handcuffs and take him outside,' the worker added. Other Reddit users claiming to be Walmart employees sympathized with the employee over the matter and shared similar work horror stories. 'Truly unhinged, but you know he absolutely was making a scene intentionally after the second "price correction,"' a commenter wrote. 'I had a customer who was causing a disturbance and making it very hard to work,' another person revealed. 'They kept threatening to call the cops. I dialed the number and handed them the phone. It's amazing how quickly they left...' Walmart registers have been a growing nuisance in the eyes of social media users. The company has been working to ensure customers are safe from card skimmers, and several stores are using gadgets at self-checkout. Some locations have also removed self-checkout lanes, while its membership-only retailer Sam's Club axed them out at all stores to explore AI 'Scan & Go' technology. The register changes came after the chain announced its plan to invest $9 billion in store makeovers. The remodeling began in at least 650 locations, but the company has not revealed if self-checkout changes were part of it. While the changes were meant to raise customer satisfaction, they were not enough to cheer up shoppers who were furious over price hikes from tariffs. With prices jumping as much as 80 percent, the retailer was forced to slash about 1,500 US jobs last month on top of the hundreds initiated by the company in 2024.
