Union min & guv to attend convocation ceremonies at silk city institutes today
States transport minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, higher education minister Suryabanshi Suraj and fisheries and animal resources development minister Gokulanand Mallick will grace the conventions in both the institutes as guests of honour. While Pradhan will deliver the convocation address in its 26 th convocation in Berhampur University,Kambhapati will deliver the convocation address in the IISERs fifth convocation.
Both the institutes have made elaborate arrangements to hold the convocations. The institutes will hand over the degrees to their passing out students in the convocations.
Before attending the convocation in Berhampur University at 11 AM, Pradhan is scheduled to visit Maa Budhi Thakurani temple here, one of the famous Shakti Shrine in the state to offer rituals and to attend the Triranga Yatra in Silk City, organised by the BJP's Ganjam district unit.

Cut import, increase exports to become ‘vishwaguru': Gadkari
1 2 3 Nagpur: Without directly referring to the ongoing US tariff imposition, Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said that reducing imports and boosting exports is the biggest patriotism today if India wants to become a 'vishwaguru'. Speaking during the Prof VG Bhide memorial lecture at VNIT, Gadkari stressed that science and technology hold solutions to the country's major problems under the present circumstances. "Knowledge is power. Duniya jhukti hai, jhukane wala chahiye (The world bows, you need someone to make it bow)," he said. "If our scientists and institutions work as per the needs of the country, then the rate of our growth and development will increase thrice. When our economic growth rate and export increases, I don't think we will need anyone's support. Today, those who are bullying others can do so because they are economically self-reliant, and technologically sound. But when we have better technology and resources, we wouldn't indulge in bullying others. Our tradition teaches welfare of the world 'vishwa kalyan'," he said. Calling for indigenous technology, Gadkari said Bhide's research remains a guiding light. He lamented that research centres have not worked enough on hyperlocal problems but praised VNIT's ongoing work. Sharing an example from Covid times, he said a unit to treat black fungus-related blindness was set up in Wardha after he intervened for licensing. Remembering Satyapal Malik: At Khatkar toll plaza, khaps to salute governor who became their voice
Jind: The khap panchayats of Haryana have announced that they would be holding a ceremony in the memory of former governor Satyapal Malik at Khatkar toll plaza on Sunday — the venue being a symbolic reference to the deceased BJP leader's support to farmers during the 2020-21 protests. Harikesh Kaabarchaa, the head of Khatkar Khap, said farm organisations and members of at least another three khap panchayats — Kandela, Dharan, Chahal — would participated in the event at Jind, which is being organised as no state honour was extended to Malik on his cremation. "Khatkar toll plaza has been chosen as it was the epicentre of the protests in Jind during the 13-month-long stir against the three agri-marketing laws," said Kaabarchaa. Kaabarchaa added it was at the same toll plaza where Malik had supported the wrestlers' protest against Brij Bhushan Singh. "At the same plaza, when he was a serving governor, Malik had shared his personal experiences and strongly criticised BJP govt over Pulwama and other issues. His connection with farmers and khaps began strengthening after that gesture of support," added Kaabarchaa. In 2023, a day after being summoned by the CBI in a corruption case, Malik, who served as governor of four states, went to surrender at Delhi's RK Puram police station. "At the time, khap leaders and farm groups' representatives from western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan visited his Delhi residence and accompanied him to the police station," said Kaabarchaa. He added they had also honoured Malik at Kandaela village of Jind district in 2022, after the agri-marketing laws were repealed in Dec 2021. "It is heartbreaking that a man who was always saluted during his tenure in office was denied his final salute by the govt," Kaabarchaa added. "This is why we are going to pay our tributes to him like this. This is our salute to the man who became the voice of farmers, soldiers, and wrestlers.
