KOTA BHARU – Determined to stay in peak condition for his duties, Constable Mohammad Aiman Abdullah took a decisive step to overhaul his lifestyle, losing an impressive 27.8kg in just six months.
The 32-year-old officer from the Transport Unit at Gua Musang district police headquarters (IPD) reduced his weight from 105.8kg to 78kg. Aiman (right) also received a bicycle as a prize, presented by Mohd Ali (centre). - PHOTO: SINAR/ADILA SHARINNI WAHID
This achievement came as part of the Kelantan Contingent Police's Biggest Losses health programme.
What stands out most about his journey is that his transformation didn't rely on slimming supplements or expensive gym memberships.
Instead, Aiman simply committed to a disciplined eating plan, eliminating rice and sugary drinks and maintaining a daily habit of brisk walking.
'I had to change my lifestyle because being a police officer isn't an easy job.
"You need to be in top form. I gave up rice completely, stopped drinking sweet beverages, and only drank plain water,' he said after the programme's closing ceremony, held at the Kelantan Police Headquarters recently.
The event was officiated by Kelantan deputy police chief Deputy Commissioner Mohd Ali Tamby.
Aiman was named the program's top performer, having brought his Body Mass Index (BMI) down from 37.9 to 28 over the course of the challenge, which ran from November last year to April this year.
He said his decision to take action was driven by health concerns that began affecting his work, including frequent shortness of breath during duties outside the office.
'This wasn't about looking good, it was about doing my job properly and fulfilling my responsibilities to the force and the community. I never thought I'd lose almost 28kg,' he said.
The weight loss programme involved 354 police personnel, officers and administrative staff from the police force in Kelantan, all of whom had been classified as obese following initial health checks.
Of that number, 90 participants successfully moved out of the obesity category by the end of the programme.

Weight loss programme turns Besut cops lean and mean

JERTIH: About 28 police officers shed up to a phenomenal 25kg in a two-month weight loss programme held from early June to July. Besut police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu said officers from various divisions had successfully lost weight through the 'Biggest Losses' Body Mass Index (BMI) reduction programme implemented for the first time by the Besut district police headquarters. "The healthy weight loss was achieved through physical activities such as hill-climbing, walking by the beach, military-style exercise and fitness training, as well as nutritional care. "The ideal BMI is not only a requirement for improving work quality but also reflects the image of professionalism of members when carrying out challenging tasks more effectively through the level of physical preparedness as well as increasing public confidence,' he told Bernama after the closing ceremony of the programme at the Gelam Mas Police Quarters here. Azamuddin said the programme, in collaboration with the Besut District Health Office, showed positive success as despite the training being held for only three times a week for two months, the effects were most encouraging. In January, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution announced that the Royal Malaysia Police will only confirm a promotion if the officer's BMI is between 28 and 30. In February, Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin reportedly said that 40% of 3,900 officers had a BMI that disqualifies them from promotion as the BMI threshold was set at a decent rating of 28. In Kuala Lumpur, a fitness crackdown was launched after police discovered that some 10% of its 122,000 officers were overweight. That means 11,000 cops were assigned to huffing and puffing through mandatory workouts and calorie-counting diets. — Bernama

Kelantan police BMI programme helps 90 officers overcome obesity

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has successfully helped 90 officers and staff transition out of obesity through its six-month 'Biggest Losses' Body Mass Index (BMI) reduction programme. Out of 354 participants, these individuals achieved healthier weight ranges, while the remaining 264 continue their progress under close monitoring. Deputy Police Chief DCP Mohd Ali Thamby emphasised the programme's goal of enhancing personnel readiness through improved health. 'The ideal BMI is not just a health indicator, it reflects physical readiness, professional image, and the ability of personnel to perform demanding duties more effectively,' he said during the programme's closing ceremony at the Kelantan Police Headquarters. Launched last November by the Training Branch of the Kelantan Contingent Management Department, the initiative involved personnel from 10 districts and departments across the state. Among the success stories was Constable Muhammad Aiman Abdullah, 32, from the Gua Musang District Police Headquarters transport unit. He lost 27.8 kg, dropping from 105.8 kg to 78 kg in six months. 'Previously, I would tire and feel sleepy easily, but now that I'm lighter, I feel more energetic and motivated to work,' he shared. His strategy included cutting sugar, avoiding rice at night, and opting for egg whites and grilled food. The programme highlights PDRM's commitment to fostering a healthier workforce, ensuring officers remain fit for duty while promoting long-term wellness. – Bernama
