SeGAC Highlights Govt's Push For Digital Transformation In Public Sector Finance

GENERAL KEPALA BATAS, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The Standard Accounting System for Government Agencies Conference (SeGAC) has reinforced the government's commitment to accelerating digital transformation in public sector finance and accounting through the adoption of integrated, secure and efficient digital systems. Held over two days starting yesterday, the conference brought together nearly 500 participants from various sectors. It served as a platform to showcase the latest developments in financial technology and facilitate strategic knowledge sharing between government agencies and the Accountant General's Department of Malaysia (JANM). In a statement tonight, JANM said the event, jointly organised with the Public Sector Accountants Association Malaysia (PSA), featured eight presentation sessions across a range of topics, including economic outlook, digital transformation, sustainability, leadership, motivation, auditing, finance and organisational development. A total of 13 expert speakers were involved. The conference also spotlighted the role of the Standard Accounting System for Government Agencies (SAGA), a suite of financial and accounting applications, both custom-built and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS), along with supporting systems that integrate financial data, that must comply with the design standards outlined in the Accountant General's Circular (SPANM). 'SAGA enables government agencies to prepare financial statements more promptly, accurately and with greater integrity. It also ensures adherence to recognised accounting standards and enhances overall financial governance,' the statement said. JANM added that SAGA is designed to ensure data security and system reliability based on the principles of confidentiality, integrity and availability, guaranteeing that financial data remains protected, accurate and accessible at all times. Meanwhile, Accountant General Datuk Nor Yati Ahmad said the conference theme, 'Digital Evolution: The Core of New Era Sustainability', reflects the country's ambition to embrace technological transformation in line with the Malaysia MADANI policy framework, with sustainability as one of its core values. 'The theme underscores the importance of digital innovation in public sector finance and accounting, particularly through technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics, to support efficient, transparent and sustainable financial governance,' she said when officiating the event. Government agencies will be issued a SAGA Compliance Certificate once their financial and accounting systems are certified to meet the required compliance criteria approved by JANM.

Cropmate posts RM3.5mil net profit on RM45.7mil revenue in Q2

KUALA LUMPUR: Cropmate Bhd posted a net profit of RM3.5 million for its second quarter ended June 30, 2025. The company recorded revenue of RM45.7 million during the quarter, with local sales contributing about 96.9 per cent to the total. Cropmate achieved a gross profit margin of 17.5 per cent for the period. It said pre-tax profit stood at RM4.6 million, compared with RM5.0 million in the preceding quarter, as revenue slipped 5.9 per cent due to lower sales volume of fertilisers. Cropmate said its performance was mainly underpinned by sales to oil palm plantations and durian orchards. Looking ahead, the company said demand for fertilisers is expected to remain largely dependent on the performance of the plantation and food crop sectors. It added that any changes in political, social and economic conditions, including tariffs or trade restrictions, could affect demand and disrupt supply chains. Cropmate managing director Lee Chin Yok said the company remains committed to enhancing operational efficiency, helping customers boost productivity, and driving its growth initiatives. The company had used RM23.2 million from the RM42 million raised through its initial public offering. The proceeds were channelled towards working capital, capital expenditure and listing expenses. Cropmate said it is advancing its strategic expansion plan, which includes the proposed acquisitions of Factory Lots 8949 and 8950 and the planned disposal of Lot 51.

MBSB Bank inks RM1.3bil Islamic financing deal with Cypark

KUALA LUMPUR: MBSB Bank Bhd has formalised Islamic financing facilities worth RM1.3bil for Cypark Resources Bhd , making it the company's principal banking partner. In a statement, MBSB said the facility, which combines refinancing and working capital solutions, is structured to strengthen Cypark's capital structure, optimise cash flow and support growth. Cypark will also place funds into MBSB Bank's Sustainable Term Deposit-i, a product that channels deposits into environmental and social projects. 'This facility is a milestone in our own transformation as we align Islamic finance with national energy goals. By matching capital to long-term renewable assets, we are also shaping Malaysia's clean energy future,' MBSB group chairman Datuk Wan Kamaruzaman Wan Ahmad said. Cypark, Malaysia's integrated renewable energy and environmental solutions provider, is known for solar, biogas and waste-to-energy projects, including the country's first SMART Waste-to-Energy facility. With 400MW of installed renewable capacity, it plays a key role in Malaysia's decarbonisation. The financing marks a milestone in its Cypark 2.0 plan to strengthen finances, enhance operations and drive clean energy growth. Through this financing, MBSB Bank will refinance Cypark's established renewable energy assets in solar and waste-to-energy initiatives. Cypark chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said the refinancing of the group's debt alleviates a key financial exposure and positions the company to deliver sustainable growth while optimising shareholder returns. 'We value MBSB Bank not only as a financier but as a strategic partner who shares our vision for a low-carbon economy for Malaysia. Their confidence in our capabilities and commitment to the nation's energy transition have been instrumental in achieving this milestone. We look forward to working closely with MBSB Bank to deliver robust solutions for firm renewable energy supply to the grid.'
