Govt. signs MoU with Japan's Kitakyushu City to boost eco-growth and urban innovation
Welcoming the Japanese delegation led by Kitakyushu City Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed delight and recalled his recent visit to Japan, where he had the opportunity to study the development model of Kitakyushu.
He noted that the city's innovative eco-town model served as a major inspiration for Telangana's plans as well. 'We have signed agreements with several Japanese companies to replicate a similar eco-town model in Hyderabad,' he stated.
Highlighting the importance of the newly inked cooperative agreement, Mr. Revanth Reddy said he was optimistic that the collaboration would lead to the creation of a comprehensive ecosystem for sustainable economic development. 'This partnership will help us achieve inclusive growth, zero-emission goals and foster urban innovation,' he added.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also briefed the Japanese delegation on Telangana's ongoing Musi River rejuvenation project, aimed at environmental conservation and economic asset creation.
He shared that there is a growing interest among Telangana students to learn the Japanese language, with many eager to explore employment and educational opportunities in Japan. Mr. Revanth Reddy requested support from the Japanese delegation to help train students in Japanese.
The CM also revealed plans to improve air connectivity between Hyderabad and Kitakyushu, stating that such links would bolster tourism, trade and exchange programmes.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has observed that the 'People's government' headed by him, while setting its sights on competing with global cities, is fully committed to delivering welfare benefits to uplift the disadvantaged sections of society. Addressing the Independence Day celebrations at Golkonda Fort on Friday, Revanth Reddy listed out his government's welfare schemes and their positive impact on society. The People's government had adopted a two-pronged approach, he explained. On the one hand, the government set for itself goals to compete with global cities; and, on the other hand, the government was delivering welfare benefits to fulfil the aspirations of the poor. "Clarity in thinking and transparency in implementation are the hallmark of our governance", the Chief Minister said. The state government had chosen an inclusive development approach by involving everyone and created miracles. So, Telangana had become a 'role model' for the country within 20 months, Revanth claimed. The present Congress government, soon after assuming power on December 7, 2023, 'restored democracy' and took policy decisions in tune with the aspirations and goals of people as well as Telangana activists and martyrs. The People's government accorded priority to the future and welfare of farmers, women, and youth. 'We took historic decisions to invent a social Telangana. We fulfilled the 100-year dream of the weaker sections by conducting the (Socio-Economic) Caste Census and implemented SC sub classification, thereby ending decades of waiting for the Scheduled castes. The two important decisions taken by the government are not only significant but also courageous in the history of India,' the CM remarked. On farmers' welfare, the Chief Minister said that farmers in the state could get rid of their debts and register the highest crop production in the country, upon implementation of the loan waiver scheme, Rythu Bharosa, along with bonus of Rs 500. Revanth Reddy said that women empowerment schemes, including free travel in RTC buses, had brought a paradigm shift in the lives of women in the state.

OpenAI staff plan to sell $6 billion in stock to SoftBank, other investors
Current and former OpenAI employees plan to sell approximately $6 billion worth of shares to an investor group that includes Thrive Capital, SoftBank Group Corp. and Dragoneer Investment Group, in a deal that values the ChatGPT maker at $500 billion, according to people familiar with the matter. The talks are early and the size of the share sale could still change, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private information. The secondary share investment is on top of SoftBank's commitment to lead OpenAI's $40 billion funding round, which values the company at $300 billion, according to another person familiar with the deal. That round remains ongoing, with OpenAI recently securing $8.3 billion from a syndicate of investors. Representatives for Dragoneer and Thrive didn't respond to requests for comment. Spokespeople for OpenAI and SoftBank declined to comment. All three firms are existing OpenAI backers. Allowing employees to sell shares is an important tool for startups trying to retain top talent, without requiring the company to go public or be acquired. In some cases, early investors also use these deals to sell down their stakes, though OpenAI investors are not eligible to do so in this round, according to a person familiar with the matter. Current and former employees who spent at least two years at the company are able to participate. With its participation in the share sale, as well as its previous commitments, SoftBank is making a pivotal bet on the success of OpenAI. In addition to those deals, the Japanese conglomerate headed by Masayoshi Son recently closed a separate $1 billion purchase of OpenAI employee shares at a $300 billion valuation, according to a person familiar with the matter. Negotiations for that deal started before talks around the $500 billion secondary valuation began, they said. Harish criticises Cong govt for increasing taxes & burdening people
Hyderabad: Former minister T accused the Congress govt of burdening the public by increasing taxes, contrasting it with the previous BRS administration which, he claimed, had reduced the tax load. He pointed out that the Transport Department alone had imposed an additional 2,000 crore burden on citizens by hiking service tax, vehicle service tax, road tax, and motor vehicle tax. "The recent hike in life tax on vehicles by the Congress govt is nothing short of a ruthless blow to poor and middle-class families in . Without any justification, the govt issued GOs 53 and 54, increasing life tax on new vehicles and placing further financial strain on the poor and middle class," said Harish. The BRS leader noted that, in today's economy, even a two-wheeler costs over 1 lakh. Farmers, small traders, and daily wage workers depend on such vehicles for their livelihood. Raising the life tax from 12% to 15% on two-wheelers priced above 1 lakh amounts to extortion, he alleged. He further criticised the govt's plan to increase market values for property registration and its proposal to open more liquor shops in every mandal.
