Yahoo17-05-2025

Although they may no longer be a part of their respective Hawkeye programs, both Caitlin Clark and her boyfriend Connor McCaffrey keep close tabs on the happenings around Iowa City.
While the past few months have been McCaffrey's time to shine as he joined Butler's coaching staff as an assistant, Saturday will mark the start of Clark's time to shine. One year after winning WNBA Rookie of the Year, her second season with the Indiana Fever will tip off against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on Saturday.

With McCaffrey presumably ready to cheer on Clark, he also made sure to shout out one of his former teammates, Austin Ash, who is also getting into coaching post-basketball.
The former Iowa and Citadel hooper was named the head coach at Earlham High School in Iowa, which led to McCaffrey writing "Let's go 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏."

Ash played four of his five college basketball seasons at Iowa before transferring to The Citadel. He and McCaffrey, who played six years of college basketball at Iowa, played on three NCAA Tournament teams together, advancing to the second round twice.
Across his five college basketball seasons, Ash averaged 7.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game, with his best season coming in his lone season at The Citadel, where he averaged 15.2 points per game.

She and Reese, who have been rivals since their college days, will face off in a game that is set to tip at 3:00 p.m. ET and air on ABC. ESPN BET currently has the Fever as 7.5-point favorites, with the Matchup Predictor giving them a 69.7% chance of winning.

Angel Reese #5 of the Chicago Sky looks on against the Indiana Fever during the first quarter in the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on June 01, 2024 in Indianapolis, to Watch Indiana Fever at Chicago Sky Date: Saturday, June 7, 2025 Time: 8:00 PM EDT Channel: CBS Stream: Fubo (Try for free) With Clark out, the Fever leaned heavily on Kelsey Mitchell last time out as she led the way with 24 points in a win over the Washington Mystics. Meanwhile, Lexie Hull continues to step up and is making an early case for Most Improved Player. She finished the win over Washington with 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Indiana's win on Tuesday broke a three-game losing streak for the Fever, which has struggled a bit with Clark out of the lineup. As for Chicago, the Sky haven't taken much of a leap forward this year despite trading the No. 3 pick to the Mystics in a win-now move to acquire Ariel Atkins. However, Chicago has won two in a row, so maybe things are turning around, or maybe Chicago just got lucky to play back-to-back games against a struggling Dallas Wings team, winning once with Paige Bueckers in the lineup and once with her sidelined by a concussion. Chicago Sky Had 5 Words Before Historic Indiana Fever Game

Chicago Sky Had 5 Words Before Historic Indiana Fever Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Sky have had a challenging start to their 2025 WNBA season, holding a 2-4 record. Despite early struggles, the team has shown signs of improvement with back-to-back victories over the Dallas Wings. Key contributions from players like Ariel Atkins, who scored 26 points in the second win, have been instrumental in this turnaround. Advertisement On Saturday night, the Sky are set to face the Indiana Fever in a nationally televised game. This Commissioner's Cup matchup is significant for both teams as they aim to climb the Eastern Conference standings. The Fever, currently at 3-4, recently snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over the Washington Mystics. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese (5) and guard Marina Mabrey (4).Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images The Sky had previously announced this upcoming game would be held at the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls, instead of their usual venue. Typically playing at Wintrust Arena, the Sky will be playing the first WNBA game at United Center in the building's history. Sending a message ahead of this historic game, the team took to social media on Saturday morning: Advertisement "New crib for the night," the Sky posted on X. This game also serves as a rematch of the season opener, where the Fever dominated the Sky with a 93-58 victory. However, the dynamics have shifted since then. Indiana's star guard, Caitlin Clark, who has been averaging 19.0 points, 9.3 assists, and 6.0 rebounds per game, is sidelined with a left quadriceps strain and will miss the game. Her absence could provide the Sky with an opportunity to avenge their earlier loss. Additionally, the Fever will be without head coach Stephanie White, who missed practice on Friday due to personal reasons (via Chloe Peterson of IndyStarSports). Assistant coach Austin Kelly is expected to step in for White.
