David Attenborough celebrates a milestone birthday — 3 of his best Netflix documentaries to stream now
Today also happens to be his 99th birthday, and with a new feature-length documentary about the ocean premiering in London this week, he's not slowing down. All this combines to making it the perfect opportunity to revisit some of the jaw-dropping documentary shows the legendary presenter has been involved in.
The naturalist's compelling narration has been a hallmark of some truly ground-breaking TV work over the last half-century. Sir David doesn't shy away from the challenges facing the climate but always maintains hope that the environmental concerns that underpin his recent documentaries lead to meaningful change.
Attenborough's documentaries aren't just educational, they're visually stunning productions often employing some of the most cutting-edge camera techniques. You can go from watching an eagle swoop across a vast grassland and polar bears sliding around on the Arctic ice to following a trail of fire ants across a jungle floor.
Forget your epic sci-fi movies or taut dark thrillers, if you really want to see what the best OLED TVs are capable of, fire up one of David Attenborough's stunning shows and sit back with a nice cup of tea.
While Attenborough is mostly known for his work with the BBC, the naturalist has collaborated with other streaming services like Netflix, Max and Apple TV Plus to bring his message to more viewers. To celebrate the fact he's entering his 100th year on planet earth, I've picked out the three best Attenborough shows on Netflix specifically you should stream right now.
The obvious starting point for anyone with a Netflix subscription and a passing interest in the natural world, Our Planet is a must-watch. Attenborough acts as narrator across this eight-episode series that spans the globe from jungles and deserts to grasslands and coral reefs.
Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips.
The first season debuted in 2019 with a second arriving in 2023. The incredible close-ups of animals in their natural habitat is a marvel of filmmaking and, of course, the show reveals the important threats posed by climate change. If you only watch one Attenborough show, make it this one.

I think of David Attenborough shows in two parts, there's the mainline entries — like the Planet Earth or Our Planet series — and then these quirky offshoots that deep dive into a specific part of the natural world.
This limited series from Netflix uses innovative technology to examine how animals use color (or, as we say, colour) to survive and thrive in the wild. Attenborough is on board once more as a narrator and he'll explain in that grandfatherly tone how the animals use different hues to look for a mate, ward off predators or signal that they're ready for a fight.

This one is more about the climate crisis than just looking at pretty pictures of our world's flora and fauna. It's a 75-minute feature that has Attenborough teaming up with scientist Johan Rockström to examine the science behind climate change.
The film examines things like environmental thresholds we can't afford to break if we want to keep global warming under control. It's a bleak watch in places, and doesn't shy away from the big changes humanity has to make. But it also doesn't just offer problems without solutions.
Using the latest science as its foundation, the film provides some suggestions on solutions we need to put in place to protect the planet and give not just animals, but humans as well, a fighting chance at a better future.

Cruiserweight Jake Paul and lightweight Gervonta Davis announce they will fight on Nov. 14
ATLANTA — YouTuber-turned-cruiserweight boxer Jake Paul and undefeated WBA lightweight champion Gervonta 'Tank' Davis have agreed to fight on Nov. 14 at Atlanta's State Farm Arena. Paul's promotional company, Most Valuable Promotions, and Netflix announced the highly unusual matchup Wednesday. Netflix will stream the fight worldwide to its more than 300 million subscribers. The 30-year-old Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), a three-division world champion, would be the first star near his ostensible prime to face Paul (12-1, 7 KOs), the online celebrity who has become one of the world's highest-paid combat sports athletes despite never fighting an elite boxer. Netflix and Nakisa Bidarian, Paul's business partner, did not refer to the fight as an exhibition, but it's unclear how Georgia officials would allow the matchup to be held as a competitive bout, given the fighters' dramatic difference in size and experience. Paul typically weighs more than 200 pounds in the ring, while Davis is a 135-pound champion who has never fought above 140 pounds. The fighters did not announce a contracted weight or the number of rounds in their planned bout. The fight would mark a return to Netflix for the 28-year-old Paul, whose victory last November over the then-58-year-old Mike Tyson drew an estimated 108 million viewers globally. After Paul beat a tepid Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by decision earlier this summer, he entered the World Boxing Association's cruiserweight rankings at No. 14 , making him eligible to fight for world titles. Instead of pursuing a cruiserweight belt, Paul recently discussed a fight with two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua — a more logical opponent in terms of size and strength — but shifted his focus to the popular Davis. who has jousted with Paul on social media for years. Perhaps Paul can look inside his own family for a plan: His older brother, Logan, weighed 189 pounds before fighting Floyd Mayweather at 155 pounds in an eight-round exhibition bout in 2021. Promoters said the spectacle sold more than 1 million pay-per-view buys and made more than $80 million. Davis has been billed by his promoters as 'the modern day Mike Tyson' because of the frequency with which he has won by knockout, but his career and life have been rocky in 2025. He struggled to a shocking draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in his most recent ring outing in March, and he was arrested on a domestic violence charge in Florida last month before the misdemeanor battery case was dropped last week. Bidarian said Paul and Davis are 'favorites of the Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences,' and that their bout will 'determine the true face of boxing's next generation.' 'This isn't just a fight, it's a spectacle that brings together two of the most electrifying figures in boxing today,' Netflix vice president Brandon Riegg said. ___ AP boxing:

‘KPop Demon Hunters' Outperforms Its Closest Rival By Four Times
KPop Demon Hunters, the Netflix animated epic about a group of crusading spirit stalkers is being watched nearly four times as much as its closest rival according to data from the streaming platform. Over the past week alone the surreal musical was watched 26 million times for 43.3 million hours. It brings the movie's total number of views since its release in June to 210.5 million giving it a total viewing time of 351 million hours. Based on both its number of views and hours viewed, KPop Demon Hunters is now closing in on 2021's Red Notice as the most-watched Netflix movie of all time. The heist comedy starring Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson has been viewed 230.9 million times for 454.2 million hours and statistics from Netflix show how quickly the demon hunters are catching up with it. Since 2023 Netflix has distributed detailed weekly data about its top ten titles showing the number of times and hours they were watched. Before 2023, the streamer only released the latter information and, thanks to its star power, Red Notice debuted with a staggering 148.7 million hours as shown in the chart below. As this report explained, Red Notice was far from a critical success so the length of time it was watched fell sharply over the following weeks. By its third week it was only being watched around a third as much as it was when it debuted. It fell a further 50% in its fourth week before slipping below 20 million hours where it remained until the ninth week after its release which was the last one when the viewing time of the movie was in the double-digit millions of hours. It only just scraped through as it was watched for 11.1 million hours. In contrast, KPop Demon Hunters debuted to just 15.4 million hours but its viewing time increased almost three fold the following week as the movie became a viral sensation. Unlike Red Notice, the amount of time it has been watched has increased since then and the latest data from Netflix shows that in its ninth week it was viewed for 43.3 million hours. It is almost four times more than the amount Red Notice was watched at the same point after release despite having a slight disadvantage as it is 15.3% shorter than its rival. If it keeps up its performance it will hit the top spot in just over two weeks. The latest data shows a slight increase in weekly viewing time so the demon hunters are showing no sign of slowing down.

The John Cena retirement tour continues in Indianapolis in the inaugural Wrestlepalooza event at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The event will be shown on the new ESPN direct-to-consumer streaming service, and streamed internationally on Netflix. According to a news release from WWE, Cena — who is scheduled to retire at the end of 2025 — will wrestle an opponent he has not faced in more than a decade, believed to be Brock Lesnar, who returned to WWE on the second night of Summerslam in August to attack Cena. More will be added closer to the event. Indiana Sports Corp and WWE announced a multi-year deal in 2024 that included the 2025 Royal Rumble and a future Wrestlemania and Summerslam at Lucas Oil Stadium.
