Emmerdale star Ryan Hawley says it was 'right time' to return as Robert Sugden
Hawley officially returned as Robert Sugden in a dramatic episode tonight, May 28, and he says he is back 'for good'.
Ryan Hawley made a dramatic return to Emmerdale tonight as Robert Sugden, and the actor has now confirmed that he's back "for good" after six years away. Robert crashed the wedding of his ex Aaron Dingle and half-brother John Sugden in the ITV show's latest episode, years after Robert was sent to prison for the murder of Lee Posner.
Speaking to The Mirror, Ryan revealed that not only is he back on the soap, but that he won't be going anywhere. "The secret is out today! My character is returning permanently and not just for Aaron and John's wedding. I am back for good, and I am so excited to be playing Robert again," he said.
Hawley went on to explain that he had been asked to return in the past to reprise the iconic role, but it had "never felt quite right" to do so. "Recently, while I was living in Brazil with my family, where we had been for the past year, Danny texted to see how I would feel.
"We've always kept in touch, and after a lot of thought, I told him, 'Yeah, I am up for it. ' I then got a call swiftly from the producers, and it went from there," he added.
Robert added that he's now moved back to the UK permanently for Emmerdale. "The timing felt right for us to not only move back to Britain, but also for me to come back to Emmerdale. Enough time has passed, and with this big wedding storyline, it is the right time for Robert to cause chaos and huge drama!'
Elsewhere in Emmerdale news, Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Dingle, revealed that he doesn't let his kids watch his character on the show.
During Tuesday's (May 27) instalment of Loose Women, lead panellist Ruth Langsford was joined by Coleen Nolan, Janet Street-Porter and Denise Welch spoke to Danny ahead of the anticipated Emmerdale wedding ceremony.
Coleen congratulated the actor as he had announced that he and his partner Steph are expecting their third child.
He replied: "We had a day where we thought we were never going to have a baby and now we've got three, and Steph is the most amazing wife."
When asked what his children make of him being on Emmerdale, Danny responded: "We went to a superstore yesterday and there was magazines all over, and they were spotting me on all of them because of the wedding which was really surreal.
"I tend not to let them watch Emmerdale, I mean it's on too late they should be in bed. Also, they might just be a bit confused that I'm not kissing mummy but I'm kissing another man.
"Certainly the other side of it is my character tends to be in a lot of fights and stuff, and I just don't want them to see that because I don't want them to think I'm that kind of person.
"I don't want them to say that's what you do when you go to class and punch somebody because you don't like their opinion."

Gazza looks better than ever as he shares feelings that 'run riot' in his life
Once described as the most gifted English footballer of all time, Paul Gascoigne - aka Gazza - is 58 and looking fantastic. And he tells The Mirror he wants people to get to know 'the real me' Looking like a man at the top of his game, as he poses for an exclusive photoshoot, Gazza says: 'I feel better now than I have in years.' Once described as the most gifted English footballer of all time, now 58 and looking fantastic, he tells The Mirror: 'I hope I am at a point that I can really look back over everything I've gone through in my life with a different - and more positive - perspective. After so many years in the spotlight, I feel like it's time people got to know the real me.' Speaking ahead of his new book Eight being released by Mirror Books in the autumn, he has named it after the number 8 shirt he famously wore for England for Euro 96, as well as for Spurs. Eight, he reveals, also relates to the eight emotions he says have 'run riot through my life…sometimes all in the same afternoon!' The book promises to give the real story behind some of the more infamous events in the life of the Spurs, Rangers, Middlesbrough and England champion - from the drinking, to living with bipolar and his bizarre involvement in the hunt for killer his bizarre involvement in the hunt for Raoul Moat. Gazza, who recently appeared on a video tribute to Gary Lineker, when he bowed out as host of Match of the Day, thanked his former England and Spurs teammate for being there during his tougher times and hoped they would go 'gallivanting' together, now he has more free time. Gazza's well-documented addiction problems in the past have led to a series of arrests for drunk and disorderly and drink-drive offences. And his marriage to Sheryl Gascoigne in 1996 was dogged by allegations of domestic violence. But, despite their divorce in 1998, she has written about her ongoing attempts to help him. Coming 20 years after his autobiography My Story in 2005, Gazza feels that in Eight, he shows he now has a better grasp of what was happening to him during his rollercoaster life journey. Billed as 'Paul Gascoigne as never before,' if his story is anywhere near as showstopping as his new pictures, then it will be a riveting read. 'Gazza's looking better than ever - he was one of the heroes of my youth' Mirror photographer Rowan Griffiths photographed his footballing hero Gazza for the first time two weeks ago and says: 'He looks fantastic.' Meeting at a hotel in Didcot, Oxfordshire, Rowan says: 'Gazza knows how to hold the room. He was very genuine, asking how we all were. He was doing a speaking tour and seemed very well. I was so relieved to see him looking so good, as I was a fan from way back in the day myself. He was one of the heroes of my youth.' Rowan, who has been a Mirror photographer since 2003, reminisced with Gazza about the World Cup game against the then Czechoslovakia in 1990, when he scored one of the goals that bagged England a 4-2 win. 'I went to the Czech game,' says Rowan. 'Gazza recalled every detail of that game to me. Someone else asked if he remembered every game and he said yes he did. It's amazing to have that recall.' Disclosing that he has swapped hotel stays for Airbnbs when he is on speaking tours, so he has greater autonomy, when Rowan asked how he was feeling, Gazza said: 'I'm great.' While looking brilliant and posing like a consummate professional, Rowan says: 'He still likes a typical Gazza joke. We would be doing some serious portraits and the next thing, he was doing a ballerina pose! That's Gazza for you!'

Loose Women star lands huge new job just days after ITV daytime cull amid cash crisis
The Sun previously revealed how Loose Women is in chaos backstage with some of the stars doing the show 'through gritted teeth' as they face a 60 per cent pay cut big gig Loose Women star lands huge new job just days after ITV daytime cull amid cash crisis LOOSE Women star Judi Love has landed a huge new job just days after ITV announced their daytime cull. The ITV show's line-up had been left in the dark about cuts to their lunchtime talk show, which will take effect from January amid a cash crisis. 3 Lose Women star Judi Love has landed a huge new job amid ITV's daytime cull Credit: Rex Sweeping changes announced earlier this month mean the female-led, lunchtime talk show will only air for 30 weeks a year. So, it's a good job Judi, 44, has bagged herself a lucrative podcasting gig to keep the cash rolling in. The comedian announced on Instagram today that the first episode of Our Table will be released tomorrow. Fellow Loose Woman Charlene White is joining her, along with actor David Gyasi, comedian Michelle Deswarte and actress Deborah Ayorinde. She wrote: "Our Table will launch on Friday, the 30th, on YouTube and all major podcast platforms! "We have an exciting series lined up, featuring incredible guests and engaging conversations. Join us at Our Table!! #Ourtable #JudiLove." A second post saw the Strictly star posed with her special guests ahead of the series premiere. The Sun previously revealed how Loose Women is in chaos backstage with some of the stars doing the show 'through gritted teeth' as they face a 60 per cent pay cut. An insider told us: 'It's very tense backstage as the cast are all fuming. It's like they're putting on a brave face and doing the show through gritted teeth. 'Some people's pay could be cut by 60% as some get paid by the episode and they'll be slashed next year. ITV Daytime Shake-Up: Major Changes to Lorraine and Loose Women Revealed 'For some it's their main source of income and it's worrying to everyone.' This comes after an ITV source revealed: "We are not planning any radical changes to the panel. "All of our Loose Women are hugely valued and we celebrate each and every one and the experience and opinions they bring to the show every day. "Many of our long standing panellists have appeared on the show for the majority of its 25 year run on screens and those stalwart, Loose legends are at the core of the show's success and hugely popular with the audience. "The show remains a big priority within our daytime slate, having secured a BAFTA nomination, launched a podcast and celebrated a milestone anniversary in the last year alone." MORE ITV CUTS Loose Women isn't the only show affected by recently announced changes at ITV, that will come into play in 2026. Lorraine Kelly's show has been cut to just 30 minutes a day and will also only air for 30 weeks of the year. Good Morning Britain, with hosts including Susanna Reid, Ed Balls and Kate Garraway, will take half an hour from Lorraine and will run from 6am to 9.30am. More than 220 jobs will be lost as part of the shake-up — almost half of the 450 employed on the four flagship shows GMB, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women. ITV's daytime TV schedule changes in full Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes to run from 6am to 9.30am daily. Lorraine will run from 9.30am-10am, on a seasonal basis for 30 weeks of the year. During the weeks Lorraine is not on air, Good Morning Britain will run from 6am to 10am. This Morning will remain in its 10am-12.30pm slot on weekdays throughout the year. Loose Women will be in the 12.30-1.30pm slot, again on a seasonal basis for 30 weeks of the year. The changes will take effect from January 2026. 3 She's bagged herself a lucrative podcasting gig Credit: Instagram
