‘Blindsided' Hugh Jackman believed ex-wife ‘would not trash him to the press' after Deborra-Lee Furness' betrayal talk

Indian Express4 days ago

Hugh Jackman and his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness are heading towards finalising their divorce after the Australian actor moved to the Suffolk County Supreme Court in New York to file for an uncontested divorce, two years after the couple announced their separation. Post-filing, Furness spoke to the Daily Mail and seemingly confirmed the infidelity rumours surrounding the Wolverine star by talking about trauma and betrayal, stressing that her heart goes out to everyone who has ever dealt with the same situation as hers. Now, according to the same publication, a source close to Jackman revealed that the actor was completely caught off guard and had no idea about the public comments made, subtly shading his relationship with girlfriend Sutton Foster.

A source close to the actor told Daily Mail that the Wolverine star was 'blindsided' and 'extremely disappointed' by Furness's comments made right after ending their three decades of marriage. The source claimed that Jackman strongly believed there was an 'unwritten understanding that she would not trash him to the press,' and that now he 'knows that he cannot change anything.' Earlier, speaking to the Mail, Deborra-Lee Furness said that she sympathises with all those who 'traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,' adding that the difficult time is 'a profound wound that cuts deep.' Though she said she is grateful for her time spent with Jackman, with whom she shares two kids, Oscar and Ava, she added, 'I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working for us.' She added, 'Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose. It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.'

While Furness didn't exactly spill the words that have been circulating on the internet for a while, she dropped subtle clues enough to support theories that Jackman's dating timeline with Foster overlapped with his marriage to Furness. The duo got married in 1996 after meeting for the first time on an Australian reality series in 1995. In 2023, while announcing their separation via a joint statement, they said they 'decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,' calling it a 'wonderful, loving marriage,' and concluded with, 'This is the sole statement either of us will make.' But Furness abruptly broke her silence with another statement, calling her experience a lesson and stating they are all on their individual journeys, believing any kind of relationship that happens in life is not random and that, 'We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognise and heal the broken parts of ourselves.'
Jackman, on the other hand, fueled dating rumours with Foster in late 2024 when the friends-turned-lovers were caught by photographers painting the town red with plenty of PDAs. Then, in January 2025, they walked hand in hand, publicly confirming their relationship. The two have known each other since 2008 and were famously known as Broadway buddies. In 2019, they were announced to lead The Music Man. They wrapped up the musical in 2023 and, within a year, both separated from their respective partners, with Sutton calling it quits with screenwriter Ted Griffin ahead of their 10th wedding anniversary. Around the time she divorced her husband, it was reported that she was already in a relationship with Jackman.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding 'under threat'; 'richest and most dangerous man in the world' is holding our home hostage, claim protestors

The much-anticipated wedding of billionaire Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez , set for June 24 in Venice, is facing fierce backlash from residents and activists who claim the lavish event is turning the historic city into a "playground for the wealthy." The $10 million celebration, planned on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, has triggered protests over blocked streets, luxury hotel takeovers, and environmental concerns, threatening to disrupt the Floating City during its peak tourist season. Venice locals are furious Venetians are furious over the scale of the wedding, which has led to Bezos reserving five opulent hotels and every water taxi in the city, according to a Daily Mail report. Enhanced security measures, including a heavy police presence, closed streets, and restricted airspace, are expected to accommodate an A-list guest list of celebrities, politicians, and business tycoons. The disruptions coincide with Venice's busiest travel period, exacerbating tensions in a city already strained by mass tourism. Local activist group Laboratorio Occupato Morion, which describes itself as an "anti-fascist, anti-capitalist, anti-racist, and trans-feminist political space," is leading the charge against the event. The group has planned a protest for this Friday near St. Mark's Square, with a larger demonstration scheduled for the wedding day. Their rallying cry, 'No space for Bezos, No space for oligarchs!' is emblazoned on flyers featuring Bezos' head atop a rocket, accusing him of treating Venice as a personal playground. 'Jeff Bezos believes he can purchase the entire city,' the group's flyer declares. 'Those who live in Venice on a daily basis are left with discomfort, exclusion, and precariousness.' What are concerns regarding Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez wedding The wedding's environmental impact is a major point of contention. Venice's fragile lagoon and polluted canals are already under strain from overtourism, and the arrival of private jets—though Bezos' four Gulfstream jets will be joined by others—adds to the city's carbon footprint. His $500 million superyacht, Koru, cannot dock near Venice due to its size, but the influx of guests is expected to further stress the city's delicate ecosystem. 'Bezos embodies what this city and global movements have been fighting against for decades—a financial and technological oligarchy that exploits workers, the planet, and entire territories,' said Alice Bazzoli, a spokesperson for Laboratorio Occupato Morion, in an interview with the Daily Mail. The group views the wedding as a symbol of growing inequality and the commodification of Venice, a UNESCO World Heritage Site struggling to preserve its cultural and environmental heritage. Full week of protests planned The protests last week is said to be just the beginning, with Laboratorio Occupato Morion planning a series of smaller events in the week leading up to the wedding, culminating in a major demonstration on June 24. Activists argue that the event highlights the broader issue of Venice being overtaken by wealthy elites, leaving locals feeling marginalized in their own city. City officials have not yet commented on the protests or the wedding's logistical arrangements, but the growing unrest signals a clash between Venice's residents and the global elite. As the wedding date approaches, all eyes are on whether Bezos and Sanchez's celebration will proceed as planned or face significant disruptions from an increasingly vocal opposition. Brad Pitt reportedly reeling from divorce, but ‘admitting that publicly would give Angelina Jolie…'

Brad Pitt has reportedly been deeply affected by his years-long divorce war with ex-wife Angelina Jolie. When asked by GQ if the finalisation of his divorce in late 2024 brought him relief, Pitt replied, 'No, I don't think it was that major of a thing. Just something coming to fruition. Legally.' 'It's been in the news for 30 years, bro. Or some version of my personal life, let's put it that way.' But one source told the Daily Mail, 'Brad's had his fair share of meltdowns over the years as their feuding got more and more intense.' The couple shared six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox. But following a 2016 incident on a private plane, Jolie filed for divorce and accused Pitt of abuse. The Bullet Train star has denied and was later cleared by authorities. Now, in the past year, several of the children have dropped 'Pitt' from their last names. Shiloh filed a legal petition to do so, while Zahara and Vivienne opted out of using it publicly. Pax even called Pitt a 'world-class a**hole' and a 'despicable person' in a private Father's Day post. 'They've fought about so many things that have brought him close to breaking point, including the winery and more importantly their children,' a source told Daily Mail.
