Every new season of Black Mirror launches a feverish debate over which episode was the best. Emmy voters gave three consecutive Best TV Movie awards to "San Junipero" (2017), "USS Callister" (2018), and "Bandersnatch" (2019), but how does the entire fandom rate the best and worst installments? We've consulted the cumulative IMDb scores for all seasons and have come up with the definitive ranking of Black Mirror episodes. Can you guess the No. 1 choice?
Season 7 was released in April 2025 and brought the total number of episodes and specials to 34. Created by Charlie Brooker, the sci-fi anthology series began on the U.K.'s Channel 4 in 2011 before moving to Netflix (and becoming a worldwide phenomenon) in 2016. The show took a four-year break after Season 5, thanks in part to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, but that just gave people even more time to relive their favorite episodes from the beginning.

Netflix's ‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch' Brings Sam Fisher Out of Retirement

Fans of stealth video games likely have a soft spot in their hearts for Splinter Cell. Ubisoft's sub-series of stealth-action games endorsed by Tom Clancy has been MIA for over a decade, even with a remake of the original game on the horizon. After doing guest roles in other Clancy games and in Netflix's Far Cry anime, series lead Sam Fisher is back in all his shadowy glory in Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. Developed by John Wick alum Derek Kolstad, the animated series sees Fisher—voiced by Liev Schreiber rather than longtime game actor Michael Ironside—as a field commander for the covert Fourth Echelon unit. Like in the games, Sam is assigned to stop a threat to global security: in this case, the mission is 'personal.' Splinter Cell: Deathwatch deploys on Netflix October 14. Want more io9 news? Hannah Einbinder says she ‘gasped in horror' when she read the final episode of ‘Hacks' Season 4

After four seasons playing comedy writer Ava Daniels on the Emmy-winning HBO hit Hacks, star Hannah Einbinder says she never knows what to expect when reading the scripts. In the final episode of Season 4, Ava awakes to a frantic call from her agent Jimmy (Paul W. Downs), who tells her TMZ is reporting that her boss and close friend Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) is dead. Einbinder says that when she first read the script, she was scared… but also skeptical. More from Gold Derby 'The Pitt' would be the first show to win Best Drama Series since '24' with a season longer than 13 episodes 'We'd love to win... next year': Producers Molly McNearney and Jesse Joyce confirm Jimmy Kimmel is '100% voting for Stephen Colbert' at the Emmys 'I definitely gasped in horror,' she admits. 'But after many seasons of believing that these things were going to really happen and there have been so many cliffhangers I was like, 'They ain't getting me again. I'm not falling for it.'' In the end, it turns out Vance is alive — if slightly hungover — and the obituary was published in error. 'I was still shocked, and I cried reading the script, but I was suspicious," she says. Einbinder has earned four Emmy nominations for her role opposite Smart and says their relationship has only grown stronger over the years. 'We were fast friends. Jean is a super open person, and we got to a very deep level of confiding in one another pretty quickly. We've been through so much and time has only deepened it," she says. "I think the connection that we have on screen is reflective of something very real between the two of us.' One of the most emotionally intense scenes of the episode, titled "Mrs. Table," involves Ava flipping out — an experience Einbinder says was particularly difficult to shoot. 'I was working myself up and yelling, and the actress that I'm yelling at is one of my best friends. She directed my stand-up comedy special. I'm having to yell at my best friend, and so I was choking back tears because it is scary for me.' And when Ava throws food — a branzino, to be specific — at the wall in a dramatic outburst, getting the moment right took some effort. 'We did that a couple times just to try to get the fish to go right towards the lens on the other side of the wall. It just was so crazy,' Einbinder says. Now enjoying the show's continued critical acclaim and multiple Emmy nominations, Einbinder reflects on her time with Hacks with nothing but gratitude. 'Being a part of the show has been the biggest blessing of all time,' she says. 'It's an embarrassment of riches.' ‘We'd love to win… next year': Producers Molly McNearney and Jesse Joyce confirm Jimmy Kimmel is ‘100% voting for Stephen Colbert' at the Emmys

For the first time ever, an Emmy nominee constructed a billboard openly campaigning for someone else to win their category. But is Jimmy Kimmel's "I'm voting for Stephen" message actually real, or just a joke? "He is 100 percent voting for Stephen Colbert," confirms Molly McNearney, Kimmel's wife and an Emmy-nominated producer this year for Jimmy Kimmel Live. With Emmy voting now open, Gold Derby spoke about the state of late-night television with McNearney and Jesse Joyce, a writer on Jimmy Kimmel Live who's currently nominated for producing the short-form series The Rabbit Hole With Jimmy Kimmel. More from Gold Derby Hannah Einbinder says she 'gasped in horror' when she read the final episode of 'Hacks' Season 4 'Eden' reviews dismiss Ron Howard's 'eccentric' new movie as a 'shipwreck' Following the shocking cancellation of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, McNearney seems to have accepted the fact that the Emmy tide has turned toward Colbert winning Best Talk Series. "Maybe Jimmy Kimmel Live can win next year," she tells us. "We would love it! We'd love to win... next year. Can we have that?" McNearney won her first Emmy Award last year for producing the 2024 Oscars, which Kimmel hosted, and she keeps the trophy in her home office. "I tell my kids that it's my World's Best Mom Award, and they believe it," she laughs. This year's Oscar host was Conan O'Brien, whom she says did an "amazing" job, adding "I'm glad to see he's doing it again [in 2026]. It'll be great." The following interview has been edited for length and clarity. Gold Derby: Congratulations on another Emmy nomination for Best Talk Series for ! Does it still feel just as exciting as it has in the past? McNearney: Yes, I think it definitely feels just as exciting as it has in the past. It's always nice to feel recognized. We like to believe that awards are meaningless — unless, of course, we're nominated for one, and then they're super meaningful! [laughs] It's really nice particularly to be nominated alongside your peers, who we have deep respect for. I was disappointed that there could only be three. I wish there was room for more, because I think there are also other shows that are deserving of this nomination. Joyce: I am very proud of the show. I love that every time I talk to comics and people in comedy, they're always like, "This is the show I watch." And that means a lot that your comedic peers get it. So, I think that's really cool, and that's one of the neat things about the Emmys. The elephant in the room is that was canceled just about a month ago. What was your reaction when that news came down? McNearney: I was very upset. I actually happened to be at a rally in Jackson Hole with Jimmy and our kids, an anti-Trump rally where my kids got flipped-off I think three to four times. And then my phone was buzzing, and I looked down and saw that Colbert's show was canceled, and I was truly devastated by it. And so was Jimmy. We have a deep respect for Stephen Colbert and his entire crew and cast and staff, and I'm really disappointed. Not only is he not going to be on the air, and I think his show is fantastic, the actual whole Late Show is gone. I have real nostalgia, as we all do, for what David Letterman created there. I'm still honestly in a bit of disbelief that it's over. Joyce: Yeah, same with me. I've always had a ton of respect for him. I also was bummed at what preceded it, was After Midnight With Taylor Tomlinson getting canceled. I used to work on the original @Midnight, and I did that for five years. I loved that show. But The Late Show is an institution. There are not that many of these jobs that we have, and to see a whole bunch of people get cleaved into the sea is a pretty effed up thing. McNearney: There's never been a more relevant time for late night. I think it is incredibly important, the work that Stephen and his show does, and for that to be missing is going to be detrimental. A lot of people oddly get their news from late night, and right now it's vital that these shows provide a place or outlet of release, frustration, anger, and inspiration every night. What a wild time to be alive. And to have one less voice in that fight is sad. Although, I'm fairly confident Stephen will find a different platform. I can't imagine he's going to go away. Jimmy Kimmel put up a billboard in Los Angeles that said, "I'm voting for Stephen." Can you confirm, is Jimmy actually voting for Stephen at the Emmys, or is that just a joke? McNearney: He is 100 percent voting for Stephen Colbert, which of course, we support and love. But also it just means another year wearing uncomfortable shoes for nothing. But that's OK! We'll all look good losing. We always do. We're used to it. But yeah, I think it's a good year for Stephen to win. If there are any Emmy voters reading this interview, what would you like to tell them? is still a great show, and it still deserves the prize, right? McNearney: Yeah, I think we're deserving of an Emmy. I felt that way for a long time. I think that we can win other Emmys, like for our amazing short series, The Rabbit Hole, that Jesse Joyce created. It's fantastic writing, and it's a real unique piece in comedy that we have online right now. And maybe Jimmy Kimmel Live can win next year. We would love it! We'd love to win — next year. Can we have that? Jesse, tell us about , which is nominated for Best Short-Form Comedy, Drama, or Variety Series. That's a gobbledygook category title. Joyce: Well, I love anything wordy. The show is six minutes long, so it makes sense that it's the longest title in the Emmy nominations. McNearney: Jesse's pitches are typically like leaflets, so this is good for him. Joyce: Yeah, I'm notorious for that. But, I'm super proud of it. It's kind of my baby. That's how my brain works, and I love pitching this goofy shit, and I was really thrilled that Jimmy and Molly responded to it. In order for any of these conspiracies to work, they have to build, and you need to plant little dumb pieces of evidence along the way, to then call it back later. That's the way they unfold, and there's not real time to do that in the monologue. And so the fact that Molly came up with this idea that we could put it online is really great. So yeah, I'm delighted that this has an outlet for my goofy brain. is up against a short, a short, and a short. So, Stephen Colbert cannot win this one. McNearney: Thank God! Joyce: Yeah, there will be no guilt about winning this. McNearney: And we've never lost to The Daily Show before. Oh, wait a minute. Yes we have, about 17 times. Joyce: What I'm doing in The Rabbit Hole is total buffoonery, and I am well aware of that. I'm satirizing conspiracy, but I still get the exact same sort of adrenaline kick when I find a piece of connective tissue that real conspiracy dingbats get. When I find a reference to tiny testicles in the Nixon tapes, I'm like, "I've done it." Can you believe you're getting honored and recognized for buffoonery? This is your job. Joyce: Yeah, I've had some people from my old days working on other stuff, where I've always pitched conspiracy-brained bullsh-t, that have said, more or less, "This feels like the culmination of your life's work." So yeah, it is neat. I'm pretty delighted that people noticed. We touched on it earlier, but a lot of people are talking about the future of late-night television, and where things might go from here. Molly, what is your take on that hot topic? McNearney: I think there's a place for late night forever, honestly. People need voices to make us laugh and connect and evaluate the news of the day. I don't think that's going anywhere. The formats and platforms might change a little, but we are here to stay, so we look forward to continuing the work. Also, Jimmy's not moving to Italy. That was taken out of context. We're definitely here to say that. That guy is way too f--king patriotic to ever leave this country. First of all, he has American flag crocs, and 4th of July is his favorite holiday. And also, the guy is a fighter. He would never leave this country. He cares way too deeply about it. Trust me, I've suggested it. He will go nowhere. The Best Short-Form category will be handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 7, and the Best Talk Series category will take place at the Primetime Emmys on Sept. 14.
