BLACKPINK still in your area: 9 years on, the band reigns supreme in K-pop scene

Nine years ago, BLACKPINK entered your area and locked everyone in. A group of four young women- Jisoo, Jennie, Ros, and Lisa- debuted as BLACKPINK under YG Entertainment, with a swagger that redefined what a K-pop girl group could be. Today, BLACKPINK stands as one of the few acts from South Korea to command both stadiums and charts worldwide, blending music, fashion, and personal branding into a cultural discography thrives on an addictive blend of fierce rap verses, anthemic choruses, and sleek production. Tracks like 'DDU-DU DDU-DU,' 'How You Like That,' and 'Pink Venom' embody their signature 'girl crush' concept, a mix of empowerment, swagger, and style that transcends language barriers. Their music videos, boasting with high-fashion visuals and cinematic storytelling, have become cultural moments in themselves. The instant memorable choruses make their music as much festival anthems as radio hits. (Credit: Instagram/sooyaaa__) As they celebrate nine years, BLACKPINK remains one of the few K-pop girl groups to crack both the cultural and commercial code globally. They've built a legacy on selective output, massive spectacle, and an unshakable brand identity. BLACKPINK's career has been a series of record-breaking milestones. They are the most-subscribed music act on YouTube (as an individual group), have the highest-charting K-pop girl group album on the Billboard 200 ('Born Pink' debuting at No. 1) and became the first K-pop girl group to headline Coachella (2019) — returning in 2023 as the first Asian act to top the festival's lineup. Their 'Born Pink' world tour became the highest-grossing tour ever by a female group, earning over $260 million. Their solo records add to the legacy of their individual power play and the group with sporadic releases, their group dominate streaming charts globally each comeback. Case in point: the dropped their first single JUMP in over two years. In an industry that thrives on being in public eye, a part of their longevity lies in their ability to flourish as both a collective and as individual artists. Jennie's sharp-edged rap-pop, Ros's emotive ballads, Lisa's hip-hop, and Jisoo's elegant pop have carved out separate fanbases, while still retaining their status quo as Queens of K-pop- presence is as much about what you see as what you hear. From cinematic music videos shot across the world to stadium tours, the group serves- everytime. Currently, they are on their world tour titled Deadline, busy creating and breaking cannot be at the top without having faced your share of criticism, so has BLACKPINK. They have often faced critique over long gaps between releases, perceived overemphasis on image (blame K-pop industry for that), and navigating pressures of global stardom. Yet, they've weathered it all with each comeback, strategic appearances, record-breaking tours, and performances at Coachella and Hyde Park. In an industry where girl groups often have shorter commercial shelf lives, their sustained dominance is reports suggest that the group will return with a new album later this year. This obviously sent BLINKs (fandom) into an overdrive. After their contract renewal as a group with YG Entertainment in late 2024, (they are now signed to different labels individually) speculation has mounted that the group's next release will be their most ambitious an industry where trends shift overnight, BLACKPINK's name still commands immediate attention, and as their 9th anniversary shows, the world is still very much in their pink era (read-area).- EndsMust Watch

The first look of Ramayana left fans even more curious; however, they were now sure that they were in for a visual treat. With music by Interstellar fame Hans Zimmer, in collaboration with AR Rahman, VFX by Hollywood artists and the deep baritone which took fans inside the word of Ramayana, fans can't seem to zero-in on one key moment from the first look. A section of social media users said they were in awe of Ravana aka Yash in Ramayana. Others lauded the background score and VFX. Ranbir Kapoor fans rooted for him in the comment box. And some remained neutral: 'Every second is a wow moment especially rama's arrow and the beautiful title." Take a look: View this post on Instagram A post shared by The World Of Ramayana (@worldoframayana) Ramayana: Ranbir Kapoor's Lord Rama clashes with Yash's Ravana Ramayana will be released in two parts. On July 3rd, 2025, the makers unveiled the epic universe with a global launch of Ramayana: The Introduction, setting the stage for the timeless battle between two of mythology's most iconic forces: Rama Vs Ravana. The video started from the roots – the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva who rule the world. With striking animation, the video introduced characters from Ramayana – Lord Rama played by Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. 'Ten years of Aspiration. Relentless Conviction to bring the Greatest Epic of all time to the World. An outcome through a collaboration of some of the world's best to ensure that Ramayana is presented with the greatest amount of Reverence and Respect. Welcome to the Beginning. Let's Celebrate the IMMORTAL story of Rama v/s Ravana. Our Truth. Our History," wrote the makers while sharing the first look. Watch Ramayana first look here: Ramayana budget to cross Rs 4000 crore? Ramayana, touted as one of the most expensive films ever made, is backed by Namit Malhotra. Reportedly, the film's budget is speculated to cross Rs 4000 crore. Trade analyst Komal Nahata recently addressed speculation around the film's budget on Faridoon Shahryar's podcast. 'I don't know if it's ₹4,000 crore. I asked the same to Namit [Malhotra, co-producer], and he was visibly hurt that I asked that question. He said, 'I'm not here to calculate the budget. I want to make Ramayana part 1 and 2 out of shiddat [passion],'" Nahata recalled. Malhotra, the force behind global VFX powerhouse Prime Focus (and its Hollywood wing DNEG), had earlier opened up on the project during a conversation with Prakhar Gupta. 'So, when we set out to make it, six, seven years ago, just after the pandemic, when we started to really get serious about mounting it and producing it, and budget-wise, it was like everybody thought I'm a lunatic. Because no Indian film, by a long distance, comes close to it. So, to put it simply, it'll be about $500 million by the time we're done, on both films put together, part one and part two, which is over Rs 4,000 crore," Malhotra stated. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios along with the 8-time Oscar-winning VFX studio DNEG, in association with Yash's Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is being filmed for IMAX and will be released worldwide: Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027.
