Eyewitnesses suggested that Hossain may have been experiencing a panic attack at the time of the incident, a possibility that has heightened concerns over his subsequent disappearance.
Live Events
After landing in Kolkata, Hossain was scheduled to board a connecting flight to Silchar. However, he never arrived, and his family, who were waiting at Silchar airport, say they have received no official communication regarding his whereabouts. His mobile phone is reportedly still in Mumbai and has remained unreachable since the incident, according to the TOI report.
'When we didn't find him on the Silchar flight, we contacted the local authorities and even went to Udharband police station near the Silchar airport. But we received no concrete information about his whereabouts,' said Zubairul Islam Mazumdar, a relative of the missing youth, as quoted by TOI.
His father, Abdul Mannan Mazumdar, who is currently battling cancer, voiced anguish over the sudden disappearance of his son. 'He was working hard in Mumbai to support us and was returning home. I saw the video this morning and now I don't know where my son is,' he said.
Responding to the incident, IndiGo said in a post on X (formerly Twitter): 'We are aware of an incident involving a physical altercation on board one of our flights. Such unruly behaviour is completely unacceptable and we strongly condemn any actions that compromise the safety and dignity of our passengers and crew. Our crew acted in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures. The individual involved was identified as unruly and handed over to the security authorities upon arrival. All appropriate regulatory agencies have been duly informed, in line with protocol. We remain committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment on all our flights.'

However, it is to be noted that the airline's statement did not clarify whether Hossain received any medical attention, counselling, or was taken into protective custody by the authorities following the incident.

After six years in jail, Mumbai man gets bail from Supreme Court in biz partner's murder

Mumbai: The Supreme Court granted bail to Sarang Patharkar, who was in jail for nearly six years in connection with the murder of his former business partner and ex-journalist Anand Narayan in Mumbai's Antop Hill area in 2019. The apex court cited prolonged incarceration and the absence of prior criminal records as key reasons for granting bail. The court set aside the order of the Bombay High Court's bail rejection in August 2024. "We have considered the submissions. Having regard to the fact that the appellant already suffered incarceration of about six years pending trial, and it is not pointed out that he has previous criminal antecedents, we are of the view that it is a fit case where the appellant be released on bail pending conclusion of the trial," the Supreme Court bench observed. The court directed that Patharkar be released on bail under conditions deemed appropriate by the trial court. She also pointed out that despite two time-bound directives from the Bombay High Court, the trial made little progress, with only 19 out of 51 witnesses examined so far. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? Anand Narayan, a former sales executive with a Marathi news channel, was found murdered in his apartment at Penta Galaxy, Antop Hill, on June 4, 2019. Police alleged that Patharkar killed Narayan following a financial dispute over a failed hotel business venture. The case is primarily based on circumstantial evidence, including CCTV footage and the testimony of a mutual friend who was present during the incident. Woman's decapitated, burnt body found from her backyard

Silchar: The decapitated and decomposed body of a 20-year-old woman, who was missing for a week, was recovered on Sunday from the backyard of her residence in Neelkantapur in Sribhumi district. Despite attempts to locate her, the family had no leads and finally lodged a missing persons report at Bazaricherra police station. Nearly six days later, a foul stench began emanating from their backyard. Shankar Malakar went to inspect and reportedly noticed footprints in the area. He immediately alerted the police. A team, accompanied by a magistrate, arrived at the scene and recovered the partially buried, decapitated body. The remains were sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. Mid-air slapgate: Cachar youth returns home, family slams airline for ‘negligence'

Silchar: Hoosain Ahmed Mazumdar, the 39-year-old from Assam's Katigorah, who was allegedly assaulted mid-air on an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Kolkata, finally returned home on Sunday morning, after a 48-hour ordeal, with his family members accusing the airline and authorities of severe 'negligence' in communication, leaving them in distress over his whereabouts. Hoosain was located by his cousin Dilwar at Barpeta Road station on Saturday evening, after he had boarded a train for Assam from Kolkata. His uncle, Jubaidul Islam Mazumadar, said, "We were in a state of shock. I had posted on Facebook that my nephew was missing after the flight incident. On Friday night, someone responded, saying the boy in the photo was sitting next to him." Jubaidul further said the man had helped the youth board a train, which was heading towards Tripura or Badarpur, before helping him get off at Barpeta Road station. "I managed to locate him on Saturday evening. He was sitting next to another person and was disoriented. I brought him home and we reached Katigorah around 7 am on Sunday," Dilwar said. Hoosain, who works as a cleaner at a gym in Mumbai, was flying home on a 2 am flight on Friday, when he was assaulted by a co-passenger. Recounting the traumatic experience, he said, "I was very scared on the flight. My body was shivering, so I asked the man's name who was sitting next to me. He said his name was Hafiz Uddin (Hafizur Rahman), and I gave him salam. But suddenly, without any reason, he slapped me 3–4 times." Hoosain said the cabin crew intervened and offered him water, before attempting to calm him down, adding that he had not misbehaved with his assaulter. Once the flight landed in Kolkata, both, Hoosain and Hafizur, were taken to Bidhannagar police station for questioning. While Hoosain was sent for a medical check-up, he missed his connecting flight to Silchar in the ensuing chaos. Meanwhile, Hoosain's family has strongly criticized IndiGo, stating that the airline failed to arrange a connecting flight or provide updates on his condition. "He was handed over to police, but after that the airline completely washed its hands off the matter. Neither did they inform us, nor did they help him travel further," a family member said. IndiGo, on its part, has officially declared the assaulter an "unruly" passenger and has also barred him from flying with the airline for a period of 30 days, pending an inquiry. Bidhannagar police, too, have initiated legal action against Hafizur. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes , messages and quotes !
