, Ramesh Bhaliya arrived in Ahmedabad not to receive warm hugs but to collect the mortal remains of his youngest son and meet his eldest son, who miraculously survived the AI 171 crash and is his only solace now.
The London businessman had flown halfway across the world to Civil Hospital, where Ajaykumar lay in the morgue, while his eldest son Viswashkumar was recuperating in the ward.
Viswash, who was seated on 11A of AI 171, is the sole survivor of the plane crash. Both the brothers are British citizens and had come down to Ahmedabad for business purposes.
The weight of grief has rendered Ramesh speechless. "Rameshbhai is in no state to talk to anyone.
He is still grappling with the tragedy," says Deepak Devji, the village sarpanch from Diu who travelled to Ahmedabad to support the grieving family. Ramesh has taken refuge in a local hotel nearby, while a close friend maintains watch over Viswash as he recuperates. "No other close family members have travelled with him to the city," Deepak adds.
The brothers originally hail from Patelwadi area of Bucharwada village in Diu, having migrated to London several years ago to build their dreams.

Seat 11A became a lifeline for Viswash since it was near the emergency exit on the ill-fated AI 171. Just across the aisle, on 11J, sat his younger brother, Ajaykumar Ramesh. Within 30 seconds of take-off, fate intervened mercilessly, separating the brothers in ways nobody could have imagined.
Viswash stumbled from the burning wreckage, his survival captured in heart-wrenching video shot by rescue workers and volunteers. It shows him staggering through the debris, bloodied and in shock, crying out: "Plane fatyo che! Plane fatyo che!" (The plane has exploded). Local residents and rescue workers rushed to his aid, pulling him into an ambulance as the magnitude of the disaster unfolded around them. The brothers and their uncle and aunt were among 15 residents from Diu's Bucharwada and Vanakbara villages aboard the flight.

New Delhi: Vishwash Kumar Ramesh's name is etched in history as the sole survivor of the Air India flight AI-171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed into the hostel building of the BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad on June 12. A new video, doing the rounds on the internet, shows Mr Ramesh walking out of the crash site with thick clouds of smoke behind him. In the video, Mr Ramesh is seen in a white t-shirt walking out of the crash site with a mobile phone in his left hand. The 40-year-old British-Indian still finds it unbelievable and says he is not clear how he survived. "I don't know how I came out of it alive," he told Doordarshan. "For a while, I thought I was about to die. But when I opened my eyes, I saw I was alive. And I opened my seat belt and got out of there. The airhostess and aunty uncle all died before my eyes," he said. The emergency door apparently came off when the plane struck the hostel. Asked if he landed on the hostel, he said, "No, I was closer to the ground, the ground floor, where there was space. So I came out from there. The building wall was on the opposite side and I do not think anyone was able to come out that way". Describing the moment the plane crash, Mr Ramesh said, "A minute after the take-off, it felt like the plane had got stuck. Then green and white lights came on. They (the pilots) tried to raise the plane but it went full speed and crashed into the building". The plane flying to London from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport crashed within 32 seconds of take-off and 241 people on board, including 10 cabin crew members and two pilots, were charred to death. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is one of the victims of the horrific crash. DNA testing is underway to identify the victims and handover their bodies to respective families.

Delhi bound Air India Dreamliner diverted to Hong Kong due to suspected technical issue
New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): An Air India flight, which was supposed to land in Delhi, was diverted back to Hong Kong after the pilot suspected a technical issue mid-air, sources said on Monday. The AI 315 flight, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had departed from Hong Kong to Delhi. According to the flight tracking site, Flight Radar 24, the air India flight was supposed to reach Delhi by 12.20 PM. Sources from Air India said that the passengers have been deboarded safely and the plane is undergoing a safety check. 'The pilot suspected some technical issue in the flight and, as a precautionary measure, the flight returned to its origin. Passengers have been disembarked and the flight is going through the check,' the source said. This incident comes up just days after the tragic Air India AI 171, also a Dreamliner 787-8, on June 12 in Ahmedabad, killing 241 people. Following the crash, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also ordered enhanced safety checks on Air India's Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet. The airline has stated that inspections on nine out of its 33 Dreamliner aircraft had been completed, with the remaining 24 on track to be inspected within the timeline provided by the regulator. The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was en route to London from Ahmedabad when it crashed shortly after takeoff. There were 242 people on board, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members. A high-level meeting on civil aviation security, chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, is set to take place on June 17 in the wake of the recent Air India plane crash. According to sources, the meeting will bring together top officials, including the Civil Aviation Secretary, a representative from the Gujarat government, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, and other key agencies to review the incident and assess security protocols across the aviation sector.
