In Ferozepur, security personnel, acting on precise intelligence inputs, seized a packet containing two pistols and three smaller packets of heroin weighing 1.649 kg from an agricultural field near Bhakra village. The arms packet, wrapped in yellow adhesive tape, had a metal ring attached — a method commonly used for dropping consignments through drones from across the border.
In Amritsar, BSF troops recovered a packet of heroin weighing 609 gm from agricultural fields near Daoke village. This packet too bore smuggling hallmarks, with two illuminating sticks and an iron ring affixed. Officials said the recoveries highlight the BSF's unwavering vigilance in preventing Pakistani smugglers from pushing drugs and weapons into India. 'These operations reflect our commitment to securing the border and protecting the nation from the menace of narcotics and illegal arms,' the BSF's Punjab Frontier stated.

Rajasthan Police arrests suspects for plotting I-Day attack in Delhi, linked to Lawrence Bishnoi gang

The Rajasthan Police announced the arrest of three persons allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, along with detaining three minors for allegedly planning to carry out terror strikes in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior on Independence Day. The arrested persons have been identified as Jitendra Chaudhary, a native of Tonk, Sanjay, a native of Hanumangarh district, and Sonu alias Kali, from Kapurthala, Punjab.(AI Generated/ Representative) The arrested persons have been identified as Jitendra Chaudhary, a native of Tonk, Sanjay, a native of Hanumangarh district, and Sonu alias Kali, from Kapurthala, Punjab. According to the additional crime branch director general of police (ADGP) Dinesh MN, quoted in an Indian Express report, the three accused were arrested from Jaipur and Tonk districts last week and handed over to the Punjab Police's Amritsar Special Operation Cell. The accused were wanted in connection with a July 7 blast in Nawanshahr, Punjab. He also said that three minors were also detained during the operation. The ADGP informed that the three had thrown a grenade in front of a liquor shop in Punjab's Nawanshahr and fled to Rajasthan. The motive behind the grenade attack was to spread terror and extort money. A case was filed under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) sections 49 (abetment outside India for offence in India), 55 (abetment of offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life), 61 (2) (Criminal conspiracy), as well as sections of the Arms Act by the Punjab police. Following the Nawanshahr blast, a team led by the additional superintendent of police (ASP), Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Siddhant Sharma, went to Jaipur Range and Ajmer Range. 'The team concealed its identity and, without caring for their lives, worked hard to collect intelligence about the wanted and arrested them on August 10,' the ADG told the media. The connection to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang The accused were interrogated upon their arrest, and the police uncovered their alleged ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. According to the police, their handler is Zeeshan Akhtar, the alleged mastermind of the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai. Zeeshan reportedly lives in Canada and was connected to the three accused through social media. ADGP Dinesh MN also said that Zeeshan Akhtar, Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Manu Agwan and Gopi Nawanshahria are all allegedly connected with each other. 'They carry out criminal activities in different parts of the country and contact local youth by luring them with money to commit the crime. The accused in the present case are connected with Zeeshan Akhtar through Instagram and other online apps. Zeeshan Akhtar had also provided grenades to the accused for the Nawanshahr blast. He used to give instructions to them through online applications. He had also instructed them to carry out blasts in Delhi and Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on Independence Day, August 15,' the ADG said. Mumbai police had said in June that Zeeshan Akhtar had been detained in Canada. However, there has been little clarity on the case or Akhtar's whereabouts since then.

Strengthen BSF on Bangladesh border: Assam Congress to Amit Shah

The Assam unit of Congress has urged Home Minister Amit Shah to strengthen the security measures along the State's border with Bangladesh amid increasing cases of infiltration. Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of the Opposition in the 126-member State Assembly, expressed concern over the pushback operations by the Assam police since May. Also read: Assam pushed back 330 'illegal immigrants' into Bangladesh: Himanta Biswa Sarma 'While the State government has repeatedly acknowledged the deportation of undocumented Bangladeshi nationals, the situation raises serious questions about the effectiveness of existing border management frameworks and coordination between agencies,' he wrote in a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday (August 16, 2025). Mr. Saikia said the Assam Government announced the new pushback strategy on May 10, reportedly sending more than 300 Bangladeshi nationals who entered the country illegally back by August 3. 'These recurring operations, despite the deployment of the Border Security Force (BSF) along the 267.5 km stretch of the Assam-Bangladesh border, suggest that infiltration continues to be a serious challenge,' he wrote. He sought an assessment of the effectiveness of BSF deployment and resource allocation in a difficult terrain, reducing the gap in coordination between Central and State agencies as evident from the involvement of the Assam police in direct pushback, and addressing possible legal and diplomatic complications arising from State-level pushback conducted without the processes through the Foreigners Tribunals. Mr. Saikia advised Mr. Shah to strengthen the BSF, increase coordination protocols among security agencies, utilise technology-driven border surveillance systems more effectively, and engage with Bangladesh proactively to address the root causes of infiltration. The Congress leader submitted the letter hours after the Assam police pushed back 21 Bangladeshi nationals, including women, who entered the Sribhumi district illegally. The political parties and NGOs also drew the attention of the Centre to the attacks by alleged Naga miscreants on three Assamese youths near the Assam-Nagaland border on August 15. The incident happened near the Merapani area of eastern Assam's Golaghat district. The three youths — Simsat Basumatary, Subrata Nayak, and Prakash Boro — were attacked while returning from a picnic spot across the border in Nagaland. One of the three sustained a gunshot wound. Officials in the Golaghat district said three suspects were arrested by the Nagaland Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel in a joint operation.

NIA takes terror-suspect, woman accomplice into custody from two districts of Andhra Pradesh

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials took a man named Kothwal Noor Mohammad (40), suspected of having links with terrorist groups in Pakistan, into custody in Dharmavaram town of Sri Sathya Sai district in the early hours of Saturday (August 16, 2025.) According to information, Mohammad settled in Dharmavaram town about 15 years ago and started eking out a livelihood by working in local hotels. Currently, he is working at a tea stall located at Market Street. The NIA sleuths, along with a team of local police of Dharmavaram, swooped at his residence at the local Kota Street in the early hours and took Mohammad into custody. NIA arrests two alleged U.S donkey route human traffickers As per sources in the police, the Central agencies had detected the frequent communication between Mohammad and suspected Pakistani terrorist outfits through some social media platforms. He was immediately whisked away in a police vehicle, which left for Chennai. The raid party had reportedly confiscated some incriminating material from the rented portion of his house and seized it. Simultaneously, an NIA team escorted by the local police, took a woman (35) into custody from her residence in Tadipatri town of neighbouring Anantapur district in the early hours. The investigation team found that Mohammad was frequently in touch with the woman, and the nature of the communication between the duo is found to be suspicious. Meanwhile, a police officer in Puttaparthi confirmed that Mohammad, who is presently residing at a rented portion, recently purchased land in Dharmavaram town and started constructing a house with luxurious features. The Voter-ID issued to Mohammad said his father's name is Kothwal Ameer. A circle-inspector, who extended local logistics to the NIA team, said that except for minor details of Mohammad, such as his nature, vocation and his residence, there is no information pertaining to his background, such as to which place he belonged to or whether he is married or not. However, the tea stall owner and the neighbourhood had informed the police that the suspect was generally mild mannered, but the act of sudden purchase of a big property came under public and police scanner as well.
